Attention fatties! China to bring in law against food waste with fines for promoting overeating.

Under the campaign “Operation empty plate”, local authorities quickly embarked on programs to reduce waste and encourage food outlets to limit orders to one less dish than the number of diners in a group.

by Anonymousreply 1December 23, 2020 9:27 AM

Oh great. This will drive ppl to those fking wet markets for bush meat.

by Anonymousreply 2December 23, 2020 9:35 AM

I’ve never had that problem.

by Anonymousreply 3December 23, 2020 9:41 AM

Will the world never stop attacking me?

by Anonymousreply 4December 23, 2020 10:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 5December 23, 2020 10:19 AM

Oh no! I better stock up on that cat poop coffee they make over there. Yes, it really exists.

by Anonymousreply 6December 23, 2020 10:37 AM

R6 Cat poop coffee is an Indonesian thing. Idiot. Dumbass.

Dog, cat, bat, palm civet, pangolins, shark fin, now these are the Chinese things. Bitch

by Anonymousreply 7December 23, 2020 11:00 AM

Makes sense to me, Chinese people for some strange reason never finish their food. I guess it's a cultural thing, but I always find it rude and inconsiderate. And yes, it creates lots of unnecessary waste and the energy from producing and growing the food.

by Anonymousreply 8December 23, 2020 11:55 AM

In Chinese etiquette it's rude and inconsiderate to finish all your food because it implies that your host isn't feeding you properly. As long as you clean your plate, it will be refilled. To leave a little piece of food on the plate signifies that you are full and can't eat any more.

by Anonymousreply 9December 23, 2020 12:00 PM

What does this mean for the future of Chinese banquets??

by Anonymousreply 10December 23, 2020 12:05 PM

No more McDonald's super-sized meals?

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2020 12:23 PM

Well it's a stupid cultural thing, R9 and I'm not sure that's all there is to it because I've seen it in restaurants too.

by Anonymousreply 12December 23, 2020 12:25 PM

Why's it stupid? Just because you don't do it? That's a very arrogant position to take on another country's culture. You must be American.

by Anonymousreply 13December 23, 2020 12:28 PM

So with six you no longer get eggroll?

by Anonymousreply 14December 23, 2020 1:15 PM

R9 it is also not Chinese culture. Trust me, I know. I born in Hong Kong and live there for 25 years. If anything, Chinese culture encourage people to finish everything. We appreciate people who don't waste.

by Anonymousreply 15December 23, 2020 2:16 PM

Don't forget me! It's Christmas!

by Anonymousreply 16December 23, 2020 2:18 PM

“ encourage food outlets to limit orders to one less dish than the number of diners in a group”

Does this rule apply when you dine with Chrissy Metz? If anything there should be a rule that mandates 2 extra dishes Others gotta eat too.

by Anonymousreply 17December 23, 2020 3:33 PM

Eating what I want and as much as I want is my right!

R15, sorry but it is Chinese culture. Trust me I know, too. But perhaps things are different in Hong Kong? That would make sense based on the history of the place.

by Anonymousreply 20December 23, 2020 11:09 PM

Oh "history of the place"...zing!

by Anonymousreply 21December 23, 2020 11:12 PM

It shouldn’t be too hard to finish your plate—you’re always hungry 10 minutes later anyways.

by Anonymousreply 32December 24, 2020 3:34 AM

R20 I speak Chinese. I know it is not.

by Anonymousreply 36December 25, 2020 3:21 AM

I explained why it's a stupid cultural thing to do and I also explained why I think there's more to it because Chinese people don't finish their meals and clean their plates in restaurants either.

Also, I'm not American.

Big Fail R13!

by Anonymousreply 37December 25, 2020 3:23 AM

Obviously you're a Chinese bot R13, since you and all your bot buddies upvoted this rude and barbaric behavior.

Just imagine, Chinese behave like inconsiderate jerks at a buffet and then they leave half of their food unfinished on their plates.

That's why South Koreans think of Chinese as barbarians.

by Anonymousreply 38December 25, 2020 3:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 44December 25, 2020 6:31 AM

Onna Chang at R44 You're not Chinese? I thought you were Chinese! Well that changes everything! I'm not taking advice from anyone from Long Island!
