Under the campaign “Operation empty plate”, local authorities quickly embarked on programs to reduce waste and encourage food outlets to limit orders to one less dish than the number of diners in a group.
Attention fatties! China to bring in law against food waste with fines for promoting overeating.

Makes sense to me, Chinese people for some strange reason never finish their food. I guess it's a cultural thing, but I always find it rude and inconsiderate. And yes, it creates lots of unnecessary waste and the energy from producing and growing the food.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 23, 2020 11:55 AM |
In Chinese etiquette it's rude and inconsiderate to finish all your food because it implies that your host isn't feeding you properly. As long as you clean your plate, it will be refilled. To leave a little piece of food on the plate signifies that you are full and can't eat any more.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 23, 2020 12:00 PM |
What does this mean for the future of Chinese banquets??
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 23, 2020 12:05 PM |
No more McDonald's super-sized meals?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 23, 2020 12:23 PM |
Well it's a stupid cultural thing, R9 and I'm not sure that's all there is to it because I've seen it in restaurants too.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 23, 2020 12:25 PM |
Why's it stupid? Just because you don't do it? That's a very arrogant position to take on another country's culture. You must be American.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 23, 2020 12:28 PM |
So with six you no longer get eggroll?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 23, 2020 1:15 PM |
R9 it is also not Chinese culture. Trust me, I know. I born in Hong Kong and live there for 25 years. If anything, Chinese culture encourage people to finish everything. We appreciate people who don't waste.

“ encourage food outlets to limit orders to one less dish than the number of diners in a group”
Does this rule apply when you dine with Chrissy Metz? If anything there should be a rule that mandates 2 extra dishes Others gotta eat too.

R15, sorry but it is Chinese culture. Trust me I know, too. But perhaps things are different in Hong Kong? That would make sense based on the history of the place.

Also, I'm not American.
Big Fail R13!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 25, 2020 3:23 AM |
Obviously you're a Chinese bot R13, since you and all your bot buddies upvoted this rude and barbaric behavior.
Just imagine, Chinese behave like inconsiderate jerks at a buffet and then they leave half of their food unfinished on their plates.
That's why South Koreans think of Chinese as barbarians.
