Who is the greatest cartoon character ever?

I vote for Scooby Doo, early Scooby Doo that is.

Not that there haven't been other great ones! Foghorn Leghorn. Boris and Natasha. Wile E. Coyote. Elmer Fudd.

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2020 9:50 PM

Mickey Mouse is the undisputed greatest. No one else even comes close.

Bugs is my favorite, though.

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2020 9:53 PM

No, R7, it is understood that this thread refers to cartoon characters, not comic strips and others. Play along nicely.

Perhaps OP will create subsequent threads for comic book characters, live-action characters e.g. Gumby, Diver Dan, etc., and original film characters.

it would have to be Batman who appeared in his own show in the 60s, 70s (also teamed up with Scooby Doo during this decade), 90s & this new century = Justice League, Justice League Unlimited. Justice League Action, Batman Brave & The Bold & Beware The Batman. He also appeared in the 70s/80s Super Friends show for a record breaking 9 seasons in between his solo shows.

No Disney, Looney Tune, Archie or Marvel character even comes close. Bugs & the Looney Tunes would have their reruns repackage (Bugs & Daffy, Bugs & Road Runner, Bugs & Tweety, etc.) but they weren't always new episodes.

Even after his live actions 60s show, the public seems to keep watching his new adventures.

R163 The Simpsons at their lowest are still millions times smarter and funnier than The Family Guy at its "funniest"

by Anonymousreply 170December 22, 2020 5:26 PM

Some of you honestly think the entire universe is arranged around you, so that if a cartoon was "old-time" when you were born then no one saw it and it meant nothing to anyone older than you.

Unbelievable.

by Anonymousreply 171December 22, 2020 5:37 PM

Well, this article is interesting timing and basically does answer the question that it Bugs Bunny in that it taps into and expands upon the trickster rabbit traditions seen in Africa, Japan and Native America and other cultures that have thousand of years of history.

No, R170, actually they aren't. The last 20 years of [italic]The Simpsons[/italic] were so painful to watch that I honestly rather would rather watch [italic]Family Guy[/italic] but also would rather watch [italic]Futurama[/italic] and [italic]King of the Hill[/italic] than either of those.

by Anonymousreply 181December 23, 2020 2:20 AM

That's a good one, R175! The "Stan Does Crack" episode is a classic, and of course it's Roger who breaks the news to Stan.

Don’t do anything silly, like read the fucking thread or anything.

by Anonymousreply 190December 24, 2020 7:41 PM

It's admittedly hard to read a multi-hundred entry thread, but you can scroll to the end and then use Control+F (or Command +F on a mac) to see if someone's mentioned your character...

by Anonymousreply 191December 24, 2020 10:08 PM

R191 Why is it so important? You wasted more time schooling the poster than you would have just answering the question.

by Anonymousreply 192December 24, 2020 10:41 PM

R191 thanks. I didn't know. R188 here. But it's kind of tragic how some people get so angry about a stupid thread on a gossip site. ROFLMAO!

by Anonymousreply 193December 24, 2020 10:46 PM

It’s considered rude. Don’t you see that?

“I don’t have the time or desire to read what every other contributor wrote. I mean, that’s not even the point of a message board, right? Anyway, I’ll just ignore the other posts and put my thoughts in. I really want people to read [bold]my[/bold] thoughts, though.”

by Anonymousreply 194December 24, 2020 11:13 PM

R193, why would you even come to a message board and not read the messages?

He's right and you know he's right. [italic]The Simpsons[/italic] should have ended 20 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 213February 11, 2021 10:06 PM

R98 honestly, Seto Fucking Kaiba should be top of this list.

This man is so brilliant and so petty that he invented an entire technological VR system just to win a tournament. The man is so outrageously intelligent and hypercapable that as a teen he purposely ran an entire military-industrial conglomerate into the ground then won it back in a game of strategy so he could rebuild it as a billion-dollar philanthropic-tech org. The man is so badass that he told Fate and a literal God to go fuck Itself, because his willpower and drive is too powerful to control (and he’s right). The man is so immensely forward-thinking and so intense that he built a time-space hyperdrive—the first of its kind in his universe—just so he could travel back to Ancient Egypt and defend his title of ‘King Of Games’..

I am not making any of that up. He’s a modern day Nietzschean antihero.

While I know Charlie Brown is technically a cartoon, does he count even though he never was a TV series. More of a comic character who had some specials. I loved Scooby, Bugs, Bart and Stewey.

by Anonymousreply 216February 12, 2021 5:36 AM

[quote] While I know Charlie Brown is technically a cartoon, does he count even though he never was a TV series.

Yes he was. [italic]The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show[/italic] ran on CBS from 1983 to 1986, and there is now an Apple TV series called [italic]The Snoopy Show[/italic].

There was a [italic]Fraggle Rock[/italic] cartoon from 1987 to 1988 on NBC after the original live-action HBO series ended. It only ran a year. It might have done better on CBS paired with [italic]Muppet Babies[/italic].
