The Greatest Story Ever Told

As usual, Charlton Heston is chewing up the scenery.

And he isn't even the STAR of the movie!

They made a movie out of the Debbie-Eddie-Elizabeth love triangle?

I had no idea Charlie Heston was in that. Is that Jeffrey Hunter or Max Von Sydow as Jesus?

The latter, R3. Hunter was in King of Kings which TCM aired right before The Greatest Story Ever Told.

This is actually a pretty cool movie.

I never saw it before. At least it's not campy like the Ten Commandments.

Shelly Winters as "The Woman who is healed" redeems it with her unerringly instinct for camp.

Who was George Stevens? Half his films were duds and the others relied on the stars to carry them.

Was Max Von Sydow attractive then? He always seemed so etiolated and unpalatable.

Some of the 12 disciples were attractive but this long, drawn-out film seems rather fake in there being filmed in Arizona (I assume) and downright risible when Marion Morrison appears.

The cast of the Zeffirelli version is even more insane but the inclusion of so many stars distract me from what the so-called 'greatest story ever told' is actually supposed to be about.

The late, great Max Von Sydow was a very Scandinavian Jewish Messiah.

To think that George Stevens started out directing Wheeler and Wolsey . . .
