Diary of a Mad Housewife

What do we think about this film? It's about to be released on Blu-Ray and DVD for the first time (I think) on December 15. Another "long-lost" Frank Perry film, Ladybug Ladybug, is also being released.

There are several older threads about the movie, but I didn't want to bump them for fear of being accused the 2015 bump troll. I watched it for the first time today and quite enjoyed it! Too bad Carrie Snodgress gave it all up for Neil Young, I would have liked to see more from her.

I loved it! Read the book, but had a massive crush on Frank Langella. Damn.

Funny, OP I just watched this movie it’s available on Amazon Prime

Love it. The woman actor (forget her name) did a fabulous job in the role. Nary an award nomination

Oops, thought this was “diary of a black woman”. DL hates Tyler Perry and there no love for his movies, even though black audiences live them

I remember seeing this in its first run when I was too young to really appreciate it. All 3 lead characters seemed horribly unpleasant and unrelatable to me. I'd be curious to give it another look no, 50 years later.

I thought Carrie gave it up because she wasn't comfortable with being famous.

Off-topic but I remember Ladybug, Ladybug. Cloris Leachman had a small part as did William Daniels. The child actors were very good and the ending was very unsettling.

[quote]While waiting for a liver transplant, Snodgress was hospitalized in Los Angeles, where she died of heart failure on April 1, 2004, at age 58.

Sad. She was talented. I also think she might have had a bigger, more mainstream career if she had changed her surname, which was just... awful. Like Imogen Poots-level awful.

Actors should take a cue from the studio stars of yesteryear, who frequently "rebranded" themselves with more memorable and mellifluous names.

[quote]According to Sylvester Stallone, the first choice for Adrian (in the movie Rocky) was a girl named Carrie Snodgress, who I wanted badly because, at the time, I wanted Adrian's family to be Irish and Harvey Keitel would be the brother. She said there wasn't enough money in it (we were getting paid $360 before taxes), so I said "I'll give you my share, I truly want you." She passed to do a part in Buffalo Bill and the Indians, which never happened for her.

$360? Good lord.

[quote]Born in Barrington, Illinois, Snodgress attended Maine Township High School East in Park Ridge, then Northern Illinois University before leaving to pursue acting. She trained for the stage at the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago (now at DePaul University). After a number of minor TV appearances, her film debut was an uncredited appearance in Easy Rider in 1969 and a credited appearance in 1970 in Rabbit, Run. Her next film, Diary of a Mad Housewife (1970), earned her a nomination for Academy Award for Best Actress and two Golden Globe wins, as Best Actress in a Comedy or a Musical and New Star of the Year - Actress. She left acting soon after to live with musician Neil Young and care for their son Zeke, who was born with mild cerebral palsy. She returned to acting in 1978 in The Fury.

I just watched Wild Things, which briefly features Carrie Snodgress as a swamp grandma.

I think she’s giving the performance that Glenn Close meant to in Hillbilly Elegy.

R10 I never realized/noticed that was her in Wild Things.

I never trusted Richard Benjamin again after this film. And then, after The Last of Sheila (***SPOILER ALERT!!!***), I was proved right.
