Very self-aware guy. I always enjoy a good Tommy Kirk thread on here.

Is it true that Walt Disney fired him because he got caught blowing a grip on the set of Spin and Marty?

by Anonymousreply 2December 11, 2020 12:39 AM

Also, OP, thank you for not saying 79 years young. That's an FF in my book.

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2020 12:40 AM

When was he on Spin and Marty?

That was Tim Considine, r4. He and Tommy Kirk did play Frank and Joe Hardy on an early Hardy Boys series.

You can see both his young and old self in this documentary on the making of Swiss Family Robinson, as well as a young James MacArthur.

Tommy Kirk began his Disney career in 1956, costarring in the Hardy Boys’ MYSTERY OF APPLEGATE segments of The Mickey Mouse Club. His final film at the studio was THE MONKEY’S UNCLE in 1965.

He went through a lot back in the day, from what I’ve heard. I have great respect for him. I wish he’d write a book.

He was my first crush as a young gayling. So happy when I heard, decades later, that he was gay too!

I was surprised to see what a fine ass Tommy Kirk had. These two might be from "Pajama Party" (1964), but I can't remember for sure.

And, I think, in "Babes in Toyland" he was wearing the MOST revealing tight trousers. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost that cap.

I think Tommy grew up in this house in North Hollywood. As I recall the home was torn down and an ugly warehouse is there now.

R2 No, apparently Kirk was hooking up with a 15 year old he'd met at a public pool, and the kid's mother reported it to Disney.

by Anonymousreply 17December 11, 2020 6:56 PM

R17, that mother sounds like a real bitch. What kind of mother cock-blocks her own son?!?

by Anonymousreply 18December 12, 2020 12:02 PM

R17, and what kind of a mother would go directly to Kirk’s employer... not the police... unless they were looking for a payout? I’ll bet Walt slipped her some dough to make her shut up.

R19, and that boy grew up to be ....

I read he was one of those gays for Trump.

by Anonymousreply 22December 13, 2020 3:11 AM

R22, source please? I don’t think he’s a Trumper. His quote from Wikipedia:

"This town is full of right-wingers—the world is full of right-wingers—intolerant, cruel sons-of-bitches",
