Axios is reporting that Biden may make him Ambassador to China.
Ambassador Peter Buttigieg?

by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 9, 2020 3:28 AM |
“Mayor Pete” has a more politically-friendly appeal, but it’s true that in his personal life he has always preferred to be called Peter.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 9, 2020 3:29 AM |
I called this the whole time. I thought he would want canada or england though. Does he speak Chinese?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 9, 2020 3:30 AM |
Ok Mayor P fanboys..deep breath..he is MARRIED
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 9, 2020 3:31 AM |
If he doesn’t already count Chinese among his many languages he surely will become fluent in it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 9, 2020 3:34 AM |
There is nothing Mayor Pete cannot do!

Would Peter's marriage even be recognized in China?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 9, 2020 3:39 AM |
Oh yeah, a mayor from Indiana should be the ambassador to the most pernicious country on Earth. Great idea.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 9, 2020 3:40 AM |
Chasten can adopt so many more ugly dogs off the streets of Beijing.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 9, 2020 3:40 AM |
It’s a graveyard for anyone with presidential ambitions.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 9, 2020 3:47 AM |
Pete is more than capable of any job - including this one! He's the best!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 9, 2020 3:47 AM |
Amy K. already out in opposition to this nomination. Says he doesn't have the experience to fill such a position.

The Hon. Peter Buttigieg, Mandarincess
by Anonymous | reply 28 | December 9, 2020 4:21 AM |
this would be a good post and give him foreign policy credentials for later elections
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 9, 2020 4:22 AM |
Stop trying to make Petey the Unsuitable happen!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 9, 2020 4:22 AM |
Is Biden trying to kill Pete, by sending him to China??
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 9, 2020 4:37 AM |
R30 You're talking about yourself!!!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 9, 2020 5:23 AM |
Lol this ain’t happening. Dream on.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 9, 2020 5:26 AM |
Can't Pete just quick move to Malibu, so Gavin can appoint him to fill Kamala's seat in the U.S. Senate?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 9, 2020 8:31 AM |
All those Chinese boys for Pete
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 9, 2020 8:32 AM |

[quote] Is Biden trying to kill Pete, by sending him to China??
Gonna paw him, claw him, saw him in half,
When he cries out for mercy, we'll just laugh
Beat him, heat him, eat him for dessert, YEAH!
Roast him gently so the flames won't hurt!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 9, 2020 8:34 AM |
Turn him into a rice queen
by Anonymous | reply 38 | December 9, 2020 8:39 AM |
Bad idea. Bad for Pete. It's a passive aggressive offer made in the confidence that no one can succeed in this job. They want him to fail and knock some luster off. He's shining too bright.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 9, 2020 8:57 AM |
I disagree. It’s a great opportunity to burnish his foreign policy credentials.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 9, 2020 9:28 AM |
He doesn't need foreign policy to win. Pete's appeal and base is Middle America.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 9, 2020 9:31 AM |
r41 How will he burn his foreign policy credentials when he has none at the moment ?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 9, 2020 9:33 AM |
Good. Keep him away. Proof that no one like Pete. The centrists think he is beneath them and refuse to engage with him.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 9, 2020 9:38 AM |
Do even his most ardent supporters think he would’ve defeated Trump?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 9, 2020 9:40 AM |
R42 you're just repeating other people who talk about foreign policy creds. No prez but Bush pere had any.
No harm having some of course. Voters are not interested in other countries. They vote on jobs. It's the economy, stupid as Bill said which Hillary famously ignored to her peril. It will hold even more true in 2024.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 9, 2020 9:45 AM |
I wouldn't want to go the China, they are nuts there! The air quality is absolute shit and you have to be careful to not catch any shit disease.
Pet should try to run for congress.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 9, 2020 10:29 AM |
I would have preferred him as secretary of state...... hope he grows his beard again :)
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 9, 2020 10:35 AM |
*Pete
It's a shit job and he doesn't have any experience in foreign policy. I call fake news on this.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 9, 2020 10:39 AM |
[quote] Pete should try to run for congress.
I agree, but first, I think he'll need to find a district to move to and establish himself where he can be elected. .. Indiana's 2nd, in which South Bend is located, is pretty red overall, and just re-elected their incumbent rethug by nearly 62% of the vote.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 9, 2020 10:58 AM |
Basically I thnk pete is a guy who can do pretty much anything he sets his mind to. I wouldn't cancel out Congress or governor even in a red state.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | December 9, 2020 11:14 AM |
hahahahahahahah
Pete won't know what's hit him, the Chinese will run rings around that little creep.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 9, 2020 11:24 AM |
Got to have high high hopes
by Anonymous | reply 52 | December 9, 2020 11:25 AM |
R20 When it comes to the same sex spouses of Diplomats in China, the Chinese government gives them a diplomatic family visa, although not a spouse visa.
There are a few gay Ambassadors in China, but none as high profile as this. Normally, US Ambassadors to China has some experience with China. Huntsman and Locke both spoke Chinese, Terry Brandstad (the latest one) knew Xi Jinping in the past. However, knowing China isn’t a requirement for the job. There is an entire Embassy that handles all that shit. The Ambassador is more than a figurehead of course, but he doesn’t really need to know much as he has people both stateside and in the Embassy who do the policy stuff.
China is probably the most high profile Ambassadorship there is. The UK or Canada may be fun, but politically totally irrelevant and unimportant.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 9, 2020 11:59 AM |
[quote]I call fake news on this.
Thank you Former President Trump.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 9, 2020 12:12 PM |
If he wants it I hope he gets it. But I can't fathom anyone wanting to move to China for possibly years.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 9, 2020 12:22 PM |
I would love to be ambassador to The Maldives!
by Anonymous | reply 58 | December 9, 2020 12:46 PM |
Pete speaks French, Spanish, Arabic, some Italian, some Norwegian. But he doesn’t speak Chinese. So this appointment doesn’t make any sense.
Pete should be the DNC chairman. He’s the only one that knows and understands perception in messaging and he’s fantastic beating back right wing conspiracy garbage and making the Democrats case.
Ambassador to China is a wasted appointment.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | December 9, 2020 12:47 PM |
Besides not speaking Chinese, there's the matter of the lodgings.
The U.S, ambassador's residence in Beijing...
by Anonymous | reply 60 | December 9, 2020 2:55 PM |
The U.S. ambassador's residence in Paris...
Mr. Buttigieg speaks French.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | December 9, 2020 2:57 PM |
Although the example of Biden's election at 78 gives someone like Buttigieg a long window in which to become president - although Harold Stassen is a decidedly alternative example - a post like China gives him a possibly more realistic career path, as Secretary of State.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | December 9, 2020 6:36 PM |
The only thing he might go for is governor.
An ambassadorship does not raise his national profile or recognition. He disappears. Do you know who the current ambassador is? See?
You need a political perch not a resume for a job interview. Obama's resume was paper thin. Trump had none.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | December 9, 2020 7:03 PM |
R63, you're assuming that this iteration of the US is ready to elect an openly gay president. I'm not so sanguine.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | December 9, 2020 7:06 PM |
[Quote]The only thing he might go for is governor
Pete is not going to win a statewide race in Indiana. That's his big political problem and why he wants a Biden appointment.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 9, 2020 7:08 PM |
R64 yes I absolutely am.
R65 who knows what he wants. It's all guessing and parlor games. There are more governors that go to the White House than ambassadors or cabinet members. You can buy an ambassadorship btw.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 9, 2020 7:13 PM |
I like the idea of Pete as DNC chair. God knows they haven't had a good one in a long time.
He could impose "message discipline" on the committee the way he imposes it on Chasten at home. Firmly.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | December 9, 2020 7:52 PM |
Party chair, delegate/ambassador to China, as noted above, this is the resume of Poppy Bush.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 9, 2020 10:57 PM |
[quote]this is the resume of Poppy Bush.
Minus the head of the CIA. Which, let's face it, is the only item on Bush the elder's resume that really mattered.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | December 9, 2020 11:00 PM |
The Business Insider spin is quite bitchy: he's pissed he didn't get UN ambassador and tuned down Veterans Affairs / Director of the Office of Management and Budget as beneath him.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | December 9, 2020 11:27 PM |
OMB is a big deal. I don't know why he'd think that beneath him.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | December 9, 2020 11:36 PM |
The big problem for Pete (apart from the obvious) is that old man Biden like retreads too much to give him anything really big.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | December 10, 2020 12:02 AM |
He might be best to run his next Presidential race outside the tent rather than in it. Worked for Dumpf
by Anonymous | reply 73 | December 10, 2020 12:19 AM |
[quote] Pete should be the DNC chairman.
Convince the DNC of that. They elect the chairman. And he already put himself in the running once before and dropped out before the vote. Lack of support? It seems like a very "political" vote, like something out of high school.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | December 10, 2020 12:31 AM |
They are grooming Pete for future SOS or FBI.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | December 10, 2020 12:31 AM |
Before Pete goes for any higher office he needs a new husband.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | December 10, 2020 1:07 AM |

Maybe Pete can have a relationship with a secret Chinese spy like Swalwell did, and also fail to disclose the fact when running for president.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | December 10, 2020 4:26 AM |
I can't wait for the Swalwell sex tape
by Anonymous | reply 78 | December 10, 2020 4:34 AM |

This.
The Americans to win over distrust Washington, and the metropolitan liberals, for good reason.

Chasten is a huge asset. He was the only spouse who got his own following. Middle America relates to him. He is one of them.

I notice Chasten has a big bulge too bottom though he is.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | December 10, 2020 4:57 AM |
Biden owes Pete big time for Pete withdrawing when he could have kept the fight going up to the convention.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | December 10, 2020 5:01 AM |
It really does seem like Biden allowed others to choose his cabinet for him, and those people are clearing the path for Harris. Still, China will be our most important ambassadorship going forward. This is a serious test for Mayor Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | December 10, 2020 5:06 AM |
AMBASSADOR BUTTPLUG TO THE KITCHEN SINK
by Anonymous | reply 89 | December 10, 2020 5:18 AM |

Aaron Schock and Pete would make a hot couple. Imagine the instagram posts.
Tome to ditch Chasten.

Sadly I agree. And the huge vote at AW hates him - he's just not woke enough or something. Whatcha gonna do?
Maybe he should move to a gay friendly state.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | December 10, 2020 6:04 AM |
Great. Finally someone who will be able to coax Bai Ling off of the roof.

No announcement, yet? Maye it's not set in stone.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | December 10, 2020 3:07 PM |
A DC assignment would be better for starting a family, lots of kids in the foster system there. China is more likely to give a gay couple a panda than a baby.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | December 10, 2020 3:15 PM |
This seems like it was floated by either Pete himself or his enemies. There have been few if any leaks from Biden's team about personnel picks.. or anything else really. It would be very unusual for such a high profile and important position to go to someone without any experience in the region.

OP These postings are kind of amusing. They probably started at the VP level, then were whittled to down from Sec of State to UN Ambassador, and now most recently Ambassador to China.
What's next, attendant in the WH lavatory?

by Anonymous | reply 102 | December 11, 2020 9:14 PM |
Methinks once he didn't get his desired job as UN Ambassador, he's said no thanks to the rest.
He's likely moving on to Plan B-whatever that is- with regard to his political future and run for President down the track.
He probably has to do that outside the tent anyway with Harris and her cronies likely thwarting him inside the Harris/Biden show.
