They look like genderless aliens.
KPop stars, male and female, tend to go through the knife before they're promoted to the public. I think they use skin bleaching, too.

Is the music any good?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 6, 2020 6:14 PM |
R3 the flawless smooth porcelain white complexion is creepy on a guy.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 6, 2020 6:26 PM |
Where is his nose, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 6, 2020 6:28 PM |
I don't get it. And their music is like the shallowest, blandest bubblegum pop ever.
Females seem to have a need to make the transition from pretty-boi pinups to real men. 12-yr. old girls don't fantasize about Jim Belushi-types, but they end-up marrying them.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 6, 2020 6:31 PM |
Jim looks good in that pic.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 6, 2020 6:42 PM |
Their looks are as manufactured to market specifications as much as their music is. As it is I find Koreans the least attractive of Asians.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 6, 2020 6:54 PM |
Why does anyone care? If they are happy, big deal. Go back to working in your cubicles.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 6, 2020 6:56 PM |
[R29], it's known as "whitewashing" via Photoshop. Pretty controversial among K-pop fans.

R10 you new around here?

As in Greece and Rome, there is a pederastic tradition in East Asia; but, unlike Greece and Rome, the boy-toys, who were working as actors and singers - professions that the ancient world linked to prostitution - were sometimes given a girly makeover when they were being marketed to potential clients. The pretty boy aesthetics that is common in East Asian pop culture is, I think, an atavism from that era.
I know of books that treat homosexuality in pre-modern China and Japan, but not Korea. However, the book below, on Japan, does very briefly discuss ancient Korean homosexuality:
[quote]The Korean homosexual tradition may also be relevant to a study of nanshoku [ie, classical Japanese male homosexuality]. Until the eighth century, Japan's contacts with the Korean kingdoms were at least as significant as its ties to China, and the Korean tradition seems to have been modeled upon that of the Middle Kingdom. In Korea, too, homosexuality was at times common in courtly society. Eunuchs were employed by the Korean kings, as they were by the Chinese rulers, and probably served as sexual partners. Moreover, the Koreans established the unique institution of the hwarang ("flower boys"). During the Silla dynasty (57 B C?-A D 935), probably in the sixth century, the court established a corps of young warriors of this name. These aristocratic youths were chosen for their beauty, education, and martial prowess; aside from soldiering, they performed ritual dances and recited prayers for the welfare of the state. The Japanese scholar Ayukai Fusanoshin has suggested that they served as courtiers' sexual partners from the time of King Chinhung (r. 540-576), when, he asserts, male-male sexuality was prevalent at the Silla court.
[quote]Historical records refer to pederastic relationships involving several kings of the Koryo dynasty (918-1392); King Kongmin (r. 1352-1374) appointed at least five youths as "little-brother attendants"i and used them as sexual partners. The use of the term longyangj in this period and the subsequent employment of other Chinese terms, including nanse [ie, classical Chinese male homosexuality], testify to the Chinese influence upon the Korean homosexual tradition. In later periods of Korean history, the term hwarang came to be applied to itinerant performers, often clubbed in "male temple-troupes."l By the late Yi period (1392-1910), if not earlier, these entertainers had acquired a clear reputation for homosexual prostitution, much as had their counterparts in China.
Etc.

The wannabe Kpop idols are locked into iron-clad contracts and subjected to non-stop regimented training in military-style barracks for years before they are chosen to be part of a group. 90% of them don't make the cut and are kicked back into ordinary lives. The ones who do make it are cut and lasered into the expected template, and even once successful are given little freedom or money. The only exception is if the group becomes HUGE--the BTS boys enjoy a more elevated lifestyle, but they had to go through a lot to get there.

"Sorry but KPop guys are creepy looking"
Unlike American guys.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 6, 2020 7:26 PM |
They've fallen into uncanny valley territory. Probably deliberately - I'm sure the companies behind them can't wait until they're able to replace them with entirely computer generated hologram idols.
Is it photoshopping/filters, make up or cosmetic surgery?

All boy bands are fronts for pedophilia.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 6, 2020 7:31 PM |
The reason some are popular is their management purposely queerbait the guys and the teen girls eat it up.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 6, 2020 7:46 PM |
Americans would never get plastic surgery to look different.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 6, 2020 7:58 PM |
KPop is fun, catchy pop tunes.
But on the other hand they are very controlled (not that western boybands and pop teen stars are not controlled) and manufactured.
In some things they are in the 80's (the fact that everyone must be single to create the ilusion a fan can date them, it's curious that in western boybands they manufacture the relationships). The big numbers of suicides should be a warn and make the industry react and treat their stars better
by Anonymous | reply 24 | December 6, 2020 8:02 PM |
The reason they look unnaturally androgynous is the "Korean jaw reduction surgery".
Take too much off of a male jaw, and the result is more feminizing than a bad nose job. Add on a nose job, skin peels, skin bleaching, and heavy makeup, and what you have is a functional male-to-female transition.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 6, 2020 8:23 PM |
Korea is famous for plastic surgery but also cookie cutter varieties of plastic surgery. That’s why Korean celebs all have the same type of eyelids, noses, shaved jaws, etc...
They also wear a shitload of makeup, both male and female celebs alike. Emphasis is on unnaturally looking “perfect” skin which is achieved by layers of foundation and concealer. When overdone, the men can end up looking like Pee Wee Herman.

That's a chick.

And even though he’s had a lot of plastic surgery Siwon is hot

Jay Park is a sexy Korean rapper. Pop stars in general tend to be more girlish looking the world over. I love tatted up tough looking Asian guys. You all laugh at me every Asian guy I’ve ever been with is a super aggressive top.

Bi Rain was always my favorite. He never looked too worked on.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 6, 2020 10:46 PM |
I don’t like the way they look. The colored contact lenses and make up look plasticy.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 6, 2020 10:54 PM |
R29/R31 LOL at you posting those guys as proof of them being masculine.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 6, 2020 11:13 PM |
[quote]He never looked too worked on.
Are you serious? In the photo you actually chose to post yourself he looks like he's been photoshopped to within an inch of his life. Does he have no pores?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 6, 2020 11:14 PM |
Asians just have nicer skin so of course they’re not going to look all coarse and lined
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 6, 2020 11:15 PM |
R37 Are you really that dense?

[quote]They look like genderless aliens.
That's a very good description OP. If you look at the photos of whichever alien you have linked the girl/guy is wearing more makeup than Boy George. Full foundation, lipstick. eye shadow, blush etc. All of his pores are filled in with heavy foundation R36.

I don’t even know who the guy are op is but he is ugly and Michael Jackson looking. Not all men in Kpop look like that.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | December 6, 2020 11:44 PM |
R42 I was curious whether it was make up or editing. R37's insistence it was just Asians having nice skin of course led to me to Google Image him - once you find a photo taken live, with some of the make up having worn off you can see that's definitely not the case. He must be absolutely caked in it to get it looking as smooth as it was in the original photo.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | December 6, 2020 11:45 PM |
I don't think it's a guy R44.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | December 6, 2020 11:45 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 51 | December 7, 2020 2:15 AM |
Nose job, jaw reduction, chin implant, dimple surgery. Yes he's wearing makeup, but you don't realize that photo has gone through the face tune type of app. Hence the creepy poreless affect.
Gimmie a Korean guy like this (although they did something weird with the front of his shorts):

R36 I meant "worked on" as in plastic surgery, not photoshop. But for all I know he was born looking like Kim Jung Il.
