Tim McLean murder on a Greyhound bus in Manitoba. Anyone remember this?

At 12:01 P.M. on July 30, 2008, Tim McLean, a carnival barker, was returning home to Winnipeg after working at a fair in Edmonton. He departed Edmonton on board Greyhound bus 1170 to Winnipeg, via the Yellowhead Highway through Saskatchewan. He sat at the rear, one row ahead of the toilet. At 6:55 P.M., the bus departed from a stop in Erickson, Manitoba, with a new passenger, Vince Weiguang Li. Li, described as a tall man in his 40s, with a shaved head and sunglasses, originally sat near the front of the bus, but moved to sit next to McLean following a scheduled rest stop. McLean "barely acknowledged" Li, then fell asleep against the window pane, headphones covering his ears.

According to witnesses, McLean was sleeping with his headphones on when the man sitting next to him suddenly produced a large knife and began stabbing him in the neck and chest. After the attack began, the bus driver pulled to the side of the road, and he and all the other passengers fled the vehicle. The driver and two other men made an attempt to rescue McLean, but were chased away by Li, who slashed at them from behind the locked bus doors. Li ultimately decapitated McLean and displayed his severed head to those standing outside the bus, then returned to McLean's body and began severing other parts and consuming some of McLean's flesh.

At 8:30 P.M., the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Portage la Prairie received a report of a stabbing on a Greyhound bus west of the city. They arrived to find the suspect still on board the bus, being prevented from escaping by another passenger, the bus driver, and a truck driver who had provided a crowbar and a hammer as weapons. The other passengers were huddled at the roadside, some of them crying and vomiting. As the suspect had earlier attempted to escape by driving the bus away, the driver had engaged the emergency immobiliser system, rendering the vehicle inoperable. Witnesses had observed the suspect stabbing and cutting McLean's body, and carrying McLean's severed head.

By 9:00 P.M., police were in a standoff with the suspect and had summoned special negotiators and a heavily armed tactical unit. The suspect alternately paced the length of the bus and defiled the corpse. Police officers then observed Li eating parts of the body. Meanwhile, the stranded passengers were transported from the scene to be interviewed at the Brandon RCMP detachment. RCMP officers reportedly heard Li say, "I have to stay on the bus forever."

On July 31, 2008, at 1:30 A.M., the suspect attempted to escape from the bus by breaking through a window. The RCMP arrested Li soon afterward. He was shot with a Taser twice, handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser. Parts of the victim's body, placed in plastic bags, were retrieved from the bus, while his ear, nose and tongue were found in Li's pockets. The victim's eyes and a part of his heart were never recovered and are presumed to have been eaten by Li.

What's up with Canadian people decapitating Asians?

Didn't that prawn star / model / grifter dude kill and decapitate that Chinese guy and filmed it. That was really creepy

by Anonymousreply 4December 6, 2020 1:09 AM

R4 In this case, the Asian decapitated a white man... and is now a free man!

by Anonymousreply 5December 6, 2020 2:15 AM

R2 and the others, did any of you write the Canadian government with your thoughts and concerns?

If you are so concerned about this as you want to sound, you would have done that and encouraged others to do the same. But you didn't.

You are just starting an inflammatory thread about Canadians, Asians and whatever else has crawled up your trolling republican ass.

[quote] You are just starting an inflammatory thread about Canadians, Asians and whatever else has crawled up your trolling republican ass.

Wait, so now it's America's fault that oriental people in Canada are sawing off peoples' heads on buses?

Now I've heard everything.

by Anonymousreply 7December 6, 2020 2:40 AM

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more in Vancouver.

There are at least a billion chinamen living there.

by Anonymousreply 8December 6, 2020 2:42 AM

Tim McLean was hot!

Police officer describes the horrific scene...

A police officer at the scene of a grisly beheading on a Canadian bus reported seeing the attacker hacking off pieces of the victim's body and eating them, according to a police tape leaked today on the internet. In the tape of police radio transmissions, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer refers to the attacker as "Badger" and says he is armed with a knife and a pair of scissors and "is defiling the body at the front of the bus as we speak."

"Okay, Badger's at the back of the bus, hacking off pieces and eating it," he says at the end of the approximately 80-second recording.

The RCMP issued a statement saying it was aware that portions of the radio transmission had been leaked to the internet but that it had not given permission to use the tape because they are "operational police communications" that are not meant for public consumption.

Officers responded to a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway about 19km from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, after the bloody killing late Wednesday on the Greyhound bus travelling from Edmonton, Alberta to Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Vince Weiguang Li, 40, faces second-degree murder charges for the murder of a 22-year-old man, who friends and family identified as Tim McLean.

Passengers said that shortly after they reboarded following a break, the suspect - for no apparent reason - stabbed the man sitting next to him several dozen times as others fled in horror. He then severed the man's head, displayed it and began hacking at the body.

The bloody killing occurred as some passenger were napping and others watching "The Legend of Zorro" on television screens inside the bus. Greyhound spokeswoman Abby Wambaugh said there were 37 passengers on the bus at the time.

Li's employer said in an interview Saturday that he was in shock to learn that his "model employee" has been accused of the grisly attack. Vincent Augert, an independent contractor who distributes newspapers in Edmonton, said that Li, was one of his most reliable carriers.

"He was very punctual and always cleanly dressed," he told The Associated Press.

"He was a very nice, polite guy. We would've had no reason to let him go before all this happened." Augert said Li worked since last July and never had any problems with him.

"I had no odd suspicions about him at all. He was a very nice guy. He used to come to work every day and pick up his papers and get them to all his customers without any problems," said Augert.

Augert said that Li called him two weeks ago saying that he needed a day or two off to go to Winnipeg for a job interview at the end of July.

He said he called him back and left him a message asking him for the dates he needed off but never heard back from him.

"That was unusual for him not to call back and then when he didn't show up for work on Tuesday we got worried," said Augert. He said it was sometimes difficult to understand Li because he spoke quickly and had a strong Chinese accent.

Augert said he called Li's cell phone on Thursday and his wife answered. She told him that she had not heard from Li either, and that he had said he had to leave for a family emergency a few days ago.

"And then when I found out in the news that Li was being pinned for the brutal attack, I was in utter shock," he said.

Wow, the passenger accounts of what they saw, are simply awful.

They must have been traumatized, beyond belief.

I don't think that cheap ass Greyhound compensated any of them for their pain and suffering.

I’ll never forget it. It’s seared into my memory. The very second I read “Tim McClean” in the thread title, I knew who OP was referring to. It was frightening especially to anyone who used public transportation. The young man didn’t even have the opportunity to defend himself. It’s a nightmare.

I can’t believe the murderer is out walking the streets today.

by Anonymousreply 13December 6, 2020 5:21 PM

The killer sounds like he was possessed by a demon.

The pacing, the cutting and eating pieces of Tim's body.

It's so fucking sick.

by Anonymousreply 14December 6, 2020 5:24 PM

R14 a demon, huh?

I cannot believe that psycho is roaming free now. Wow.

[Quote] There are at least a billion chinamen living there.

Maybe there aren’t enough white people who deserve a beheading

[quote] The bloody killing occurred as some passenger were napping and others watching "The Legend of Zorro"

I remember I was just a kid making that film

by Anonymousreply 17December 6, 2020 6:04 PM

Those poor people at R12.

I feel so sorry for them. Traumatized for life, and nothing they can do about it.

Not even help from the bus company or the government.

by Anonymousreply 18December 6, 2020 6:14 PM

Shut the fuck up r6. Seriously, ballgag yourself.

One of the first responders had PTSD after the murder. His family believes the stress of the event is why he took his own life.

There is no reason Vince Li should be walking the streets completely unsupervised, under no order to take his meds, hell he’s not even required to see a therapist or check in with the local PD. He was taking unsupervised day trips on his own a year after he was found incompetent. He even got to change his name, though with the notoriety of this crime that was probably for his own protection. He spent only six years in a facility for this crime.

by Anonymousreply 19December 6, 2020 6:24 PM

R9 I'm uncomfortable that I find the Asian guy hot too in the same way I found Dahmer hot.

by Anonymousreply 20December 6, 2020 7:03 PM

Where is Manitoba, is that by Georgia?

by Anonymousreply 21December 6, 2020 7:38 PM

I've been to Manitoba. Drove from Seattle. Flat stretches of land, cold even in June. All the cops are fat indeginous lesbians.

by Anonymousreply 22December 7, 2020 8:25 PM

He was possessed by the Manitou.

by Anonymousreply 23December 7, 2020 8:29 PM

They were only 17 km out of town. Imagine if this had happened somewhere in the vast prairie with help hundreds of kilometers away.

by Anonymousreply 24December 7, 2020 8:32 PM

This is a truly terrifying story.

Probably worse than anything I've ever read about happening in the U.S.

by Anonymousreply 25December 7, 2020 8:34 PM

It happened in Canada. No way he would be out in the U.S., ever, for the level of violence and desecration. We also don't have the mental health resources to insure that he's properly followed up on.

by Anonymousreply 26December 7, 2020 8:37 PM

[quote] No way he would be out in the U.S., ever, for the level of violence and desecration

EXACTLY.

It's a fucking outrage - especially to Tim's family - that this animal was let out of prison.

by Anonymousreply 27December 7, 2020 8:42 PM

God yes I remember reading about this right after it happened. I can’t imagine what the other passengers and driver have had to endure since this happened. You know they’re all fucked up. I’ve read the main stories, but I can’t bring myself to read the eyewitness accounts.

by Anonymousreply 28December 7, 2020 8:42 PM

R28, you have to read the accounts at R12.

Those poor people are all suffering because of what happened on that bus.

And they're not receiving the care or compensation that they should have.

by Anonymousreply 29December 7, 2020 8:43 PM

Why would Greyhound need to compensate victims? It wasn’t their fault, although I guess it should have been caught by security. I have no idea what kind of security procedure you go through to board a bus in Canada.

by Anonymousreply 30December 7, 2020 8:50 PM

I'm surprised the Canadian government didn't help of some sort.

by Anonymousreply 31December 7, 2020 8:55 PM

Here are some lovely comments from the TWAT OP in other threads:

[quote] So many orientals this season. Fuck that. They're boring as shit.

[quote] If I hear those oriental twats talk about Tiger Mom making them take piano lessons or becoming a doctor or engineer just one more time, I'm going to fucking HURL!!

You think maybe the OP is racist and has some issues?

by Anonymousreply 32December 7, 2020 9:00 PM

If you ignore OP, you'll see he is one of the biggest trolls on this site.

by Anonymousreply 33December 7, 2020 9:01 PM

Well an oriental DID cut off the guy's head, chop off his body parts, and then eat them.

So there's THAT.

by Anonymousreply 34December 7, 2020 9:12 PM

Like bath salts craziness. It wasn’t Greyhound’s fault.
