Steve Kornacki is joining NBC Sports Sunday Night Football!

One of the unquestionable breakout stars of the 2020 presidential election coverage is headed to Sunday Night Football.

NBC Sports announced Thursday that Steve Kornacki, the NBC News election correspondent who gained fame for his map wizardry, will join Football Night in America on Sunday to break down a new horse race, the NFL playoff picture.

The show will air ahead of Sunday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, with Kornacki appearing alongside the likes of Mike Tirico, Tony Dungy and Chris Simms. Kornacki will also have a presence during the halftime show.

From NBC:

[quote] “I’ve been a fan of the game since I was kid and SNF has been must-see TV for me since it started back in ’06,” said Kornacki. “Truly a thrill to get this chance, especially as the season reaches its most exciting point. I spent the last year using the Big Board to map out all of the various roads to 270 and I can’t wait to put it to use breaking down all of the paths to the playoffs.”

Hopefully, it takes a little less time to tabulate the points in the afternoon slate of games.

Wielding an oversized touch screen, a knack for math and a personable manner, Kornacki’s segments during NBC’s coverage were a boon for a network. Frequently eschewing sleep to stay on set, Kornacki deftly translated the intricacies of subjects like the demographic breakdown of Atlanta or Pennsylvania vote tabulations into understandable terms for an anxious audience.

The coverage also built up a significant following for the man himself, resulting in a massive boost in khaki sales, a spot in People’s “Sexiest Men Alive” issue and appearances on all sorts of NBC platforms.

It was only natural that Kornacki, a self-described football fan, would eventually make his way to the world of sports. Look for him to be particular interested in the outlook of the 5-6 New England Patriots, of which he is a fan.

Good for him. Nice to have a gay guy discussing football. It's the little victories.

by Anonymousreply 1December 4, 2020 12:34 AM

Hawt bro.

by Anonymousreply 2December 4, 2020 12:35 AM

Butch QUEEN.

I hope they buy him a new pair of khakis.

by Anonymousreply 3December 4, 2020 12:36 AM

Good for him! I remember reading that he's a sports nut.

by Anonymousreply 4December 4, 2020 11:36 PM

He's an aspie, of course he loves sports (READ: Statistics)

by Anonymousreply 5December 4, 2020 11:50 PM

Good for him but sad for me-- I don't watch football so I won't be seeing him.

by Anonymousreply 6December 5, 2020 3:34 AM

But he’s gay?!

by Anonymousreply 7December 5, 2020 4:30 AM

I hate football, but love him, so maybe they gain a viewer.

Well played NBC Sports, well played.

by Anonymousreply 8December 5, 2020 4:43 AM

Here's the thing. To watch Kornacki you don't have to watch the game. His analysis will be pre/post game and half time. You can time to set DVRs.

by Anonymousreply 9December 5, 2020 5:48 AM

Good because no one wants another flop Steve Kornacki show.

by Anonymousreply 10December 5, 2020 7:02 AM

Did anyone watch?

by Anonymousreply 11December 7, 2020 9:36 AM

God he’s such a top.

by Anonymousreply 12December 7, 2020 9:37 AM

I only caught him in the pregame. He looked super excited to be there, and the other guys liked him a lot. No doubt it'll be a regular spot for Steve.

I don't watch MSNBC, so I only recognized Steve from the threads here. I'd never heard him speak before. He's super cute.

Fans loved NBC News star Steve Kornacki's playoff breakdown on 'Sunday Night Football'

Steve Kornacki made the long-awaited jump to “Sunday Night Football” – and fans loved it.

The NBC News correspondent rose to fame while expertly running the network’s election map nonstop during its 2020 presidential election coverage last month. He showed up on NBC’s pregame and halftime shows for the Kansas City Chiefs’ 22-16 win against the Denver Broncos.

While it wasn’t the subject Kornacki is used to, he didn’t miss a beat.

Just like he did when he broke down the election county by county in swing states, Kornacki got into the thick of things in the NFC and AFC playoff races.

With just 32 teams in the league instead of more than 3,000 counties to look at and analyze, he had a significantly easier time pulling it off. The iconic oversized board and khaki pants, of course, were along for the ride.

To their delight, it sounds like Kornacki may actually return at some point this season, too.

They like me!

Straight people really like me!

I'm a winner!

by Anonymousreply 25December 8, 2020 12:13 AM

"How is he still single?"

News flash: not all men, gay or straight, want to settle down and get married, buy a house in the burbs with a picket fence, make babies and live happily ever after.

In other words, not all men are frauen wannabes.

by Anonymousreply 26December 8, 2020 12:17 AM

His being gay will never come up.

by Anonymousreply 27December 8, 2020 12:18 AM

He’s a Republican.

by Anonymousreply 28December 8, 2020 12:57 AM

The "He's a Republican!" is a really facile screed, isn't it?

[Quote]His being gay will never come up.

Should it? Why or how and under what circumstances? Regardless, Kornacki's been out for ages, a decade even?

by Anonymousreply 29December 8, 2020 3:25 AM

The less he's on MSNBC the better. His shtick wore off real quick.

by Anonymousreply 30December 8, 2020 3:42 AM

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Steve's geeky obsessiveness makes him perfect for football.

by Anonymousreply 31December 8, 2020 4:00 AM

Good for him

by Anonymousreply 32December 8, 2020 4:01 AM

Those viewers have no idea he's gay.

by Anonymousreply 33December 8, 2020 3:06 PM

I like this better, those viewers have no idea he licks manholes and sucks cocks.

by Anonymousreply 34December 8, 2020 3:11 PM

I hope they let him report from the locker-rooms every so often. Give the boy a treat.
