The films of John Cassavetes

Overrated, or not? I think Gena Rowlands's presence in many of them is what made them strong (A Woman Under the Influence, Opening Night)—she carried those films on her back. I've always sort of thought that Cassavetes' style was basically melodrama at its core, dressed up in a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants grit. Sometimes it worked, but other times it completely veered onto the side of camp.

He was good directing that episode of Columb where he plays the Conductor who kills Jennifer Welles and her lovely bird "Chopin".

Love Streams is my favorite Cassavetes film. Personally, I find his work very hit or miss, but how can you deny its significance????
