The whole country is a dumpster fire. Hopefully their whacko president is in the lava's path.

R3, Local airport closed as Mount Ili Lewotolok erupts in a remote part of the Southeast Asian archipelago.

Sum ting wong?

I don't know what it is you're doing there, and I don't know how powerful you think you are, but if the shockwave doesn't reverberate around the globe four times, it ain't an eruption, I know that much.

r5 their current President Joko Widodo is actually one of better leaders of the country since Suharto.

by Anonymousreply 9November 29, 2020 5:28 PM

I need to take back what I said...apparently I'm thinking of the former PM of Malaysia!

by Anonymousreply 10November 29, 2020 5:32 PM

Hopefully it's next door to that fundamentalist Islamic province.

Indonesia, girl -- you in danger.

by Anonymousreply 13November 29, 2020 5:38 PM

Clearly, 2020 still thinks it competing with 1992 for Annus Horribilis.

I always incorrectly remember that as being 1993, R14, because I never do as well in years ending in the number three.

by Anonymousreply 15November 29, 2020 5:48 PM

What do the oil moguls in Qatar think about it, R4?

The City of Naples has a million residents and they would all need temporary housing if Mt. Vesuvius gives clues of a near-future eruption.

by Anonymousreply 17November 29, 2020 6:15 PM

About Naples, I saw a documentary about it. Many people think the extent of the destruction extends as far as it did when it destroyed Pompeii. The documentary did some geological research, and found evidence of volcanic ruin over a far larger diameter, miles further, in earlier eruptions, meaning that the danger zone is far larger than many people expect today.

I know nothing about Indonesia. Though, I did work with the son of the last “Governor General of the Dutch East Indies”. That would be like being the son of FDR or deGaulle.
