Hulu's "The Hardy Boys"

Making one of the brothers prepubescent seems like an odd choice.

One of them is way too young and the older one is not hot. Pass.

I’ll probably watch, but I also find it curious about them making Joe so much younger.

It's out now. I'm exited, but I won't be able to see it until Friday evening.

It's pretty decent so far. Nice 80s New Wave soundtrack. The female Asian cop and the aunt are totally going to hook up by the end, right?

r8, it's more aimed at teens. Teen mystery show, basically. A diverse group of teenager solving an elaborate mystery that involves a secret organization. Jake Tapper as the Hardy boys' dad follows his own side of the investigation.

I clicked expecting cute twinks, but got an 11-year-old and a 28-year-old instead. Boo.

They’re not sexy like Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy - pass.

They should restore the Cassidy and Stevenson one in 4k and call it a day. Cannot be topped.

I can't say it looks good, but at least they didn't populate it with the ugliest motherfucking children ever to roam the earth, each one shudderingly uglier than the one before.

There is definitely an "IT" and "Stranger Things" vibe to it, based on the trailer. Looks like it has high production values. This show will probably appeal to younger people.

I tried watching Stranger Things but I couldn't get beyond Episode 3 of the first season. As someone who came of age in the 1980s (much like the kids in the show), there were too many anachronisms, and it bothered me when they would do and say things that did not happen in the 1980s. I looked into the brothers who do the show and they weren't even alive in the 1980s, so what the fuck?! They should hire some consultants to come in and make the show more authentic to its time and setting.

I like the CW version. It's a supernatural horror show where Nancy's town is haunted by ghosts in need of their mysteries (usually murders) to be solved.

I read the Hardy Boys in the 60s and don't remember any incest.

I never watched that show Supernaural. At R29 someone types the "brotherly incest of the source material" and there is no incest in the books. Nor is there subtextual incest. Maybe wishful thinking by a DL pervert.

I believe it has more to do about ticking off demographic boxes. The kid, the curly haired doofus and the Tomboy girl get the Stranger Things crowd while the older brother, the Veronica wannabe and her boyfriend get the Riverdale teens.

I don't think the writers at Nifty.org care much about making their stories being socially acceptable. It's like LifeLeak in novel form where infants are proudly initiated in the art of incest family legacies. Wincest is innocent in comparison.

Was that the original premise of the Nancy Drew books? Were ghosts part of it? I don’t remember her helping ghosts solve their own murders. I don’t remember it being supernatural at all.

I like it so far. I found out the actor who plays Frank is 23, so I don't feel bad for finding him hot. I like that it's set in the 80s, but his Scooby gang is a little diverse for the 80s if you ask me. I thought I would hate that the brothers aren't like a year apart, but it somehow works.

I'm surprised they're white in this reboot.

I'm half way through and I take back what I wrote at R52. It's done, well, OK. The plot holes and weakness of characterizations are starting to bug me. Rohan Campbell playing Frank, is just TOO OLD. And the narrative can't seem to keep straight if the covet elite school is a PREP school or a UNIVERSITY. They mix it up constantly.

The more important question is, when will the HOME ALONE/STRANGER THINGS/HARDY BOYS Troll on DL turn up on TO CATCH A PREDATOR?

The incest angle was handled with great sensitivity.

This show is good but it’s not cohesive. They introduce characters just to have them die off or disappear for 7 episodes.

Also, it does feel like each episode has a noticeably different director. It’s edited all wrong.

It’s worth it to watch just for Linda Thorson alone.

Linda Thorson is still the best thing about this show but she’s underused in season 2.

A different actor plays the dad in S2. There was a joke about his beard in the early part of E1 to poke fun at it.

Just binge-watched the second season. Great show. Love the mystery and the story development. Could see the twist at the end a mile away (well, both twists), though.

I like the show, but I have two complaints. It is set in some kind of alternate universe 80s that I don't recognize and it is a little too "Canadian"

For the 80's people are a little too casual about the bi girl of color talking about her girlfriend (dad was very enthusiastic) and the police chief and aunt being a couple.

It's the same in other shows set in the past. The writers are putting today's more relaxed attitudes toward LGBTQ and people of color into the characters acceptance of them and it doesn't fit with how it really was in the timeframe the shows are set in.

Yeah I get that they want to keep the younger viewers by doing that, but it is bit annoying. And if they are going to do that, can we please get some guy-on-guy action?

How were the ratings on this? It ended with a cliffhanger so I hope we’re getting a third season.

I think I'd like to read the really old Hardy Boy books. I just figured out I was getting the cleaned up de-sinistered rewrites when I read them in the 60s. Apparently they were much grittier early on, and filled with offensive and racist and classist characterizations too.

I get The Hardy Boys confused with The Three Investigators for some reason.

Hulu has a bunch of shows I want to watch.

If Disney doesn't fold it into Disney+ by the end of the year, I may have to knuckle under and pay for it.

Also, does anyone else think Frank looks like a young version of Tom Berenger?
