What size crayon box did you have as a kid?

It seemed to corollate with status. The 64 crayon (with Built-In Sharpener!) was the ultimate.

Omg, I've thought about this before, rather recently. A store had a crayon display and I remember thinking why is the 96 sized box so cheap, aren't these premium luxury goods? I just looked and they're priced from $3-5.

I always got the stupid 9 crayon box!

by Anonymousreply 2November 26, 2020 3:20 PM

Were you poor, R2?

by Anonymousreply 3November 26, 2020 3:21 PM

Every once in a while I would get a brand new box of 64 with the sharpener. They all eventually ended up in the big coffee can full of flat and broken crayons.

I was always insanely jealous of the kids with the 64 crayon box. I think the most I ever had was the 24 box but usually just the basic 12. I sucked at art so my mom was wise not to waste the money on the big box

i liked the metallics in the 64 box and also magenta!

by Anonymousreply 6November 26, 2020 4:03 PM

The worst was when you went to a restaurant that gave you a stupid kids menu and 2 fake wax crayons in yellow and red. What can you do with that?

by Anonymousreply 7November 26, 2020 4:11 PM

We were poor so I had to beg to get 16 or 24. Never had a 64 but I really wanted it.

by Anonymousreply 8November 26, 2020 4:15 PM

I did not realize there were sizes other than the 64

by Anonymousreply 9November 26, 2020 4:19 PM

I grew up poor so I always got the RoseArt 8 pack. I desperately wanted the 64 pack Crayolas.

by Anonymousreply 10November 26, 2020 4:31 PM

I had the 64, and took it home in my backpack everyday so none of the other greedy bitches at school would steal them from my desk.

by Anonymousreply 11November 26, 2020 4:50 PM

I remember graduating up to the 64....it was a little intimidating.

by Anonymousreply 12November 26, 2020 4:57 PM

I never liked crayons. I used colored pencils.

This thread is hilarious for some reason...I think I had the 24...never 64.

by Anonymousreply 14November 26, 2020 5:04 PM

Lol, R11, it's true, there would always be kids who stole crayons.

by Anonymousreply 15November 26, 2020 5:06 PM

I had the 64. Looks like a box costs $3.77 now at Walmart. How expensive were they 30 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 16November 26, 2020 5:15 PM

64 crayon was the entry level elite box. Those with true wealth distinguished themselves with 96 and 128 crayon boxes.

by Anonymousreply 17November 26, 2020 5:17 PM

I had the 64 box and I was poor! Loved the sharpener !

by Anonymousreply 18November 26, 2020 5:21 PM

Funny the things you remember. When I was in the first grade, some of my classmates had the 64-crayon boxes. The price was printed on the box - "$1.00." This was in 1958, for reference. I was just learning to read number amounts and I read that as "$100," LOL. It might as well have been, since I had no money. But did I ever want one of those boxes of crayons!

I think the largest size I ever got was 48. Many years later, when I was an adult, the mother of my partner got me the box of 64. :)

by Anonymousreply 19November 26, 2020 6:01 PM

Ditto, R10.

by Anonymousreply 20November 26, 2020 6:04 PM

I had the 64 and always thought many of the color names were stupid and trying too hard. Yes I was always cynical.

by Anonymousreply 21November 26, 2020 6:04 PM

[quote]I always got the stupid 9 crayon box!

Crayolas come in multiples of eight.

by Anonymousreply 22November 26, 2020 6:10 PM

Yes I yearned for the 64.

by Anonymousreply 23November 26, 2020 6:23 PM

None of the above.

by Anonymousreply 24November 26, 2020 6:25 PM

Whatever it took to get Burnt Sienna.

by Anonymousreply 25November 26, 2020 6:43 PM

I had various sizes, but definitely remember having the 64 box. Loved the sharpener.
