Ashford & Simpson....Eldergays, please make it make sense!
Nick Ashford (RIP) was obviously flaming. The gal had enough sass to match Sylvester pink leotard for pink leotard! How were he & Valerie Simpson able to conduct their marriage for all those decades?
Was it simply a business arrangement built around their successful songwriting/performing careers? Was theirs an open marriage which allowed Nicki to frequently indulge in his Diana Ross In Mahogany Fantasies on the side? Or did Val "Reach Out And" taste the occasional muff herself as well? Eldergays, do tell!

I have it on good authority that lots of wives support their husband having a collection of dildos.
It was clearly still good for somebody, hunny.

Never really got gay vibes from him.

I saw some interviews with them and they were obviously going through a bad period in their relationship. Some people just have a lot of patience with the unpleasant characteristics of their partner's personality. I wouldn't put up with this shit. I think they were very traditional people, very conservative.

R2, so you think Val was taming Nick's sweet dark chocolate ass with her strap on toys? LOL
R3, how long has your gaydar been broken? He was FLAMING!
R4, when were these interviews? Because Nick was always seemingly a Proud Bold Queen!

Early aughts, I was sitting on a bench in Bryant Park and happened to look down to see a small plaque that read "Nick Ashford slept here"
When I told my brother, he commented, "from the looks of it....recently"
Fast forward to shortly after Nick's death I happened to catch part of this Lincoln Center concert with a guy, Ryan Shaw, who I gather had been voted off of 'American Idol'. I guess Val was mentoring him but I haven't heard or seen much from either of them since.

I saw Nick Ashford crossing second avenue in midtown east, looking every inch like Nick Ashford. Blue leather baggie pants, tan slouchy boots, a tunic top, and a coat that reached to his ankles. I was star struck, and he looked great for his age.

How do you describe Nick Ashford's corpse once rigamort8s sets in?
Solid!
Solid as a rock!

R3 has the worst gaydar I have ever been around. As a child, before I had heard the word “gay,” I knew what Miss Thang was. Sweet Jaysus, he was practically trans! Lol.

No, I'm with R3, he never struck me as gay then and he doesn't now either. Bi, maybe. Bad taste, definitely. But I'd say Sensitive Straight Male.

Saw Ashford & Simpson perform about a year before, Nick Ashford passed away. Even after all these years, they gave you a show.

I just watched the linked video plus some other videos. He gives off a vibe that’s not exactly gay but can be interpreted as gay. When I watch movies with disco in it like Saturday Night Fever, it seems like a lot of men especially black men, in that scene back then were not afraid to camp it up. Let’s face it, 70s dance music was very campy.

I wish someone would make a bio-pic of them. It would be very interesting to say the least!

One of my favourite concerts ever was seeing Ashford & Simpson at Jazzfest in New Orleans. Dynamite.

they did a very earnest performance with Teddy Pendergast at “Live Aid” although the mostly white “Disco is dead” type crowd there didn’t seem to appreciate it much. They were too ramped up for The Hooters or The Cars whatever other 80s bullshit was being served up.

R3 & R13 watched Sylvester belting out 'Menergy' in full makeup, flowing honey blonde tresses, a fishnet catsuit and thigh-high Fuck Me Boots back in the 80s; and STILL thought he was only waiting for that special lady to settle down with.
