TikTok star Charli D’Amelio loses 1M followers after personal chef video backlash

Charli D’Amelio has hit a major snag on her way to 100 million followers.

The 16-year-old TikTok sensation — who boasts the highest follower count on the popular social media platform — appears to be the latest celebrity to get canceled. She’s hemorrhaged 1 million followers after what some perceived as offensive remarks and an overall snotty attitude.

The petty drama started when the D’Amelio family posted a video to their YouTube channel Monday that went viral for depicting a cringeworthy dinner-table disagreement with her parents, Marc and Heidi, her sister, Dixie, fellow TikToker James Charles and personal chef Aaron May.

The controversial clip, the first in a series called “Dinner With the D’Amelios,” contains a scene where May is explaining the background of the dish he has served, which includes snails.

“It’s classic paella, and it’s actually an omen of good luck and fortune,” he says to the D’Amelio family, who reside in Norwalk, Connecticut.

“Liars,” Charli scoffs, with arms huffily crossed.

Dixie — who has 43.8 million followers of her own — taste tests the snail, then convulses, gags and runs outside to vomit in front of May. “I threw up; that was not good,” the 19-year-old says.

“That was a very dramatic scene,” mama Heidi replies.

Charli then asks her personal chef — who has been showcased on the Food Network and inducted into the Arizona Culinary Hall of Fame as a “Chef Extraordinaire” — if she could dine on “dino nuggets” instead.

Another groan-inducing scene features Charli whining that she hasn’t hit 100 million quickly enough. She had 99.5 million followers as of Wednesday — and is now down to 98.5 million as of Thursday night. She had been gaining followers at a rate of hundreds of thousands per day for her hyper-viewed TikTok dances prior to this drama.

“Ugh, I just wish I had more time because imagine if I hit 100 mil one year after hitting a mil,” Charli says.

“95 million not enough for you?” Charles — who has a TikTok following of 29 million — asks sarcastically.

“Well I was just like saying like, even numbers,” Charli responds with a shrug.

Commenters have flooded all of the recent videos on the D’Amelios’ accounts, and multiple influencers and high-profile creators on the platform have responded expressing criticism and disappointment with Charli and Dixie’s bratty behavior — and their parents’ nonchalance about the situation.

Charli has yet to respond to The Post’s request for comment about the backlash, but Dixie and father Marc — who is a conservative politician with a TikTok following of 8.3 million — have posted half-hearted explanation videos.

“Hey guys, if you are coming here to comment hate like this, maybe hold on one second and know the full story,” Dixie says in a TikTok she posted Thursday morning. “I’m so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve had, so I would never in any way want to be taken as disrespectful, especially from an out-of-context 15-second clip. So basically, my team knows I throw up a lot. I could throw up at the smell, the thought or the taste of anything. So, when they saw the snails, they were like, ‘Oh, let’s get her and try to see if we can get a reaction out of her.’

“I love Chef [May] and I would never disrespect him in any way and maybe don’t judge someone’s personality over a 15-second video.”

“So Dixie, sometimes when you eat food you don’t like you puke, and we know that because we are her parents and we’ve seen this happen time and time again,” papa Marc adds in a video posted Tuesday. “She is a little dramatic, though.”

The bottom line, Dixie claims, is that her family is just the latest victim of dreaded cancel culture: “Disgusting,” she says in her video. “Stop trying to cancel my parents for calling me ‘dramatic.'”

By Thursday night, Charli was sobbing over the loss of 1 million followers — and pondering quitting the platform where she’s earned 7.7 billion “likes” — in an emotional Instagram Live video.

In other news, people have a life.

They're offended she didn't like the taste of Snails? Who knew Gen Z were so pro-French.

by Anonymousreply 2November 20, 2020 1:18 PM

Ugh. I blame myself for giving this my attention but here goes:

"...especially from an out-of-context 15-second clip."

Not only do these self-exploiting assholes engage in the stupidity of placing their lives where all can see, but they also want to control reactions to it?

An Extinction Level Event can't come soon enough. Humans have had a so-so run.

by Anonymousreply 3November 20, 2020 1:18 PM

To me it looks like some fake, made up, Reality TV controversy. Parents vs. their kids aka social media stars.

by Anonymousreply 4November 20, 2020 1:20 PM

It’ll be fun to watch her life fall apart when Tik Tok goes the way of my space.

by Anonymousreply 5November 20, 2020 1:30 PM

They have manly faces and no talent. Two spoilt cunts who have more money than deserved and treat people like shit. They’re not hot enough to pull a JLo on anyone. When James Charles is telling you to calm down guurl, you know you are a horrible human being. I hope they’re cancelled and have to slink back to the suburban town they emerged from. Get bullied and humbled. Fuck them.

by Anonymousreply 6November 20, 2020 2:47 PM

If they are against arbitrarily losing followers, shouldn’t they be against arbitrarily gaining them?

by Anonymousreply 7November 29, 2020 10:05 PM

All of these vapid, spoiled cunts are has-beens in the making. TikTok "star"? These idiots' lasting significance in this world will be that of your most recent meal.

Vomiting after eating a snail seems a perfectly natural thing to do.

Well, I for one most *certainly* won't be following them!

by Anonymousreply 10November 29, 2020 10:24 PM

TBH, there is way too much hatred directed at those two girls.

The real disgust needs to hoisted upon those two parents. They are awful for raising these girls to think that any of this behavior is okay. They have miserably failed, as it will be very hard for those girls to suddenly get a brain and a life.

If they played their cards right, they wouldn't have to.

by Anonymousreply 15November 29, 2020 11:00 PM

Thankfully, I don’t understand any of this. Or know these people.

by Anonymousreply 16November 29, 2020 11:02 PM

A 16 year old has her own personal chef? This influencer bullshit is nuts.

by Anonymousreply 17November 29, 2020 11:10 PM

I don't understand how anyone could possibly give a shit about this.

by Anonymousreply 18November 29, 2020 11:12 PM

How do these ugly trolls have 95 million followers again?

by Anonymousreply 19November 29, 2020 11:27 PM

Who the hell has the time or the bad taste to follow these no-talent trash bags?

by Anonymousreply 20November 29, 2020 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 21November 30, 2020 12:08 AM

Talent free cunts, and their useless piles of shit for parents

by Anonymousreply 22November 30, 2020 12:10 AM

According to Forbes, this girl earned $4M last year. Since then, she's established a line of merchandise at Hollister and has her own drink at Dunkin. She's 16.

by Anonymousreply 26November 30, 2020 12:21 AM

tldr

by Anonymousreply 27November 30, 2020 12:22 AM

A while back when i googled who is the most followed in Tiktok and saw her, i was perplexed. So I watched her in tiktok and yes she can dance but so does everybody else there. maybe better than her. I dont really see anything special or extra-ordinary about her. But maybe that's it. i guess her average looks makes her accessible to millions and many can relate to her. she's just the first one they saw.
