Bullshit, R13. Just because the base of the Republican party has gone far right does not mean some reactionary, conservative dog whistler like Megyn gets to claim she's center-Left. If she's Center-Left then Joe Biden is the most progressive politician in the history of the united states.

In the letter, one of the least offensive statements by comparison is still pretty bad : “They [white children] happily believe their all-white spaces exist as a matter of personal effort.” The author wants kids to believe that success is not a product of personal effort. She wants to bring everyone down to the level of kids who do nothing so that everyone will be in the same boat.

So instead of ignoring or constructively engaging in a dialogue, she's going to take her marbles and leave. It doesn't seem like the person who wrote it even works at the school. It might just be something schools pass out to faculty to appear to be receptive to race-related issues. Odds are she'd long decided to leave NYC and this was her public justification.

Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon & Joy Behar have all actually done characters in blackface & still have jobs. All she did was open debate. And yes, I've listened to MK several times & would consider her center-left. Not everyone who identifies with the left thinks alike...something leftists like to believe. First of all, the letter was NOT written by any school staff. Second, it's not clear who circulated this letter or how.
[Quote] — where a letter allegedly circulated accusing white people of “reveling in state-sanctioned depravity” and comparing white children to “killer cops.”
[Quote]The offending letter made its rounds among the school’s “diversity group,” which included Kelly and other white parents, following the police-involved death of George Floyd in May, the former Fox news and NBC News host claimed.
[Quote]“Kelly went on to read directly from the letter written by Nahliah Webber, executive director of the nonprofit Orleans Public Education Network, and posted on a blog titled “If You Really Want to Make a Difference in Black Lives, Change How You Teach White Kids.”
You really can't count on the Post to provide details, can you? It doesn't say who the initial distribution source was. Unless I missed something.🤔

The school she is referring to is not known for being particularly progressive. Most likely this letter was used as part of a small parent meeting, more as a thought exercise than anything else, and Megyn is exploiting it to make a broader point. Her Fox News training has taught her well.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 19, 2020 2:46 AM |
So this was circulated in early June but she's reacting to it now and it's the reason she's leaving the city? Bullshit. There were lots of expressions of Black rage then and understandably so. Some were intemperate, some were thought-provoking. Acknowledging white privilege is not an easy process and it's very easy to deflect and direct the anger elsewhere.
In Kelly's case, she's seizing on it to pander to her constituency, which is not the center or the left. I've gone to company seminars where I've had to listen to POC coworkers explode about microaggressions I considered trivial, and had a diversity coordinator tell white employees that everything we've achieved is because we're white. I think there are a lot of hucksters in the DEI consulting business and I don't think shock tactics and rage are appropriate tools for getting white people to reflect on their racism. But that's where we are at this point in time and my discomfort and Kelly's don't absolve us of the responsibility to understand how systematic racism permeates our society. The messaging may be inartful but the reality is that I don't live in fear of police killing me when they pull me over.
She's an ass.

Everyone hates this bullshit. It creates more racism than it solves. I know many people who were actually pretty neutral/liberal in their leanings before all this crap. But they have completely flipped. Or maybe it's just that I've gotten older, so the people around me have become more conservative. That is a phenomenon that will never change. As people age, they are much more inclined to trust their own innate wisdom accumulated over a lifetime. They don't need some ridiculous "diversity coach" to tell them who they are.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | November 19, 2020 5:28 AM |
Yes, they're ridiculous and yet from all reported information, it was distributed only among the "diversity group" which included Kelly and other parents back in June. The delayed outrage should be enough to set off DL's collective antennae about Kelly's "left of center" motives.
Nothing at all reported by Murdoch's Post as to the distributor who gave it to the diversity committee or if school administration (not "administers") had any part in it.
It's a typical Murdoch hack job rife with holes and inconsistencies in the reporting, but plenty of OTT innuendo that baits the credulous. Of course, the school can't defend itself because she never named it. Everyone suspects it's Collegiate due to the dead music teacher, but would the Post be so brazen as to call and ask "Hey, did you float around that crazy black woman's letter? Do you approve?"
I'm beginning to wonder if she's angling for a hitch back at Fox in a kinder, gentler post-Trump era where she would be considered a balm to Ingraham's crazy yappings.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | November 19, 2020 6:00 AM |
Let me see if I have this right...
Someone wrote a letter on a blog. It was not an "official" thing sent out by the school and had nothing to do with the school.
That letter was seen by a parent in the "diversity" parents group at Megyn Kelly's kid's school.
That parent then sent around the letter to other parents in that group, including Megyn, for them to read, discuss, etc, among themselves.
Megyn flipped out, starts screeching anti-white anti-white, pulls her sons out of this school and her daughter out of another so they can all leave NYC. It's too anti-white to live in.
All this drama supposedly over a letter someone posted on a blog. She's making a huge publicity thing out of it.
Meanwhile, normal people were more freaked out over having to explain the police murder of George Floyd to their kids.
She's "center-left" of whom, Genghis Khan?

She can find a great town in CT or NJ to move to where such insane liberal views are minimal.

The latest episodes of police murdering Black people have my chest burning like a building set ablaze. My heart is hot, my stomach churns. My head filled with black smoke. I am exhausted.
My body is weak from seeing, hearing, reading and crying over people who look like my father and brothers getting choked out on video … again. My body hurts not seeing anything happen when people who look like my mother or me are killed by violent White men. The silence when Black trans- men and women are killed by police violently bangs in my eardrum. I’m sore from the hashtags marking yet another Black death gone viral. Physically, emotionally, mentally, I’m hurt. Professionally I’m tired.
work in education advocacy and I focus on the protection, advancement and dignity of Black children and Black life. Black death is a threat to everything I work and live for, so when it happens I can’t help but relate what I see, experience and feel to my work. When anything goes down with Black people I think about education and schools and whether I am a part of something that is preserving Black life or failing it.
As I saw the system choke the life out of George Floyd I became enraged because I knew the focus would be on the systems that produced this end result and not the ones that groomed both George Floyd and the cop who killed him for that moment. That the conversations would be about prosecution and police training, but not changing the places that socialize Americans for White violence and Black death.
The system that killed George Floyd and the system that raised and educated the cop who killed him are the same. And in the same way that folks are tired of the viral Black death—protest—fake trial—acquittal—rinse and repeat cycle, I am tired of folks acting like there’s no direct connection between the schools where White children sit and the street corners where they choke out Black life.
There’s a George Floyd in every school where Black children learn. Black children are screamed at, berated, surveilled and searched in schools. Black children are slammed and dragged, kicked and prodded in classrooms. Black children are denied an education and disrespected because of their culture. Black children are groomed for containment. We’ve got children walking on tape with hands over their mouths like prisoners in training.
Black children are suspended, detained, “demerited” and isolated in schools for trivial things every day. And there’s a killer cop sitting in every school where White children learn. They hear the litany of bad statistics and stereotypes about “scary” Black people in their classes and on the news. They gleefully soak in their White-washed history that downplays the holocaust of Indigenous, Native peoples and Africans in the Americas. They happily believe their all-White spaces exist as a matter of personal effort and willingly use violence against Black bodies to keep those spaces white.
Yet whenever we talk about what’s wrong with the systems that train and socialize young minds to become violent and depraved adults who, say choose to choke people out as part of their jobs, all we ever hear is that Black children, Black families, Black communities, Black-NESS are “behind” and stuck in gaps. Conservatives, liberals and progressives alike grow their careers and feed their families off of myths about Black deficiency.
If you let them tell it, Black kids are in terrible shape while White children are doing gloriously. But how can White kids be doing okay when they’re growing up to be police officers, district attorneys, mayors, judges, media, mothers, fathers and presidents who take away Black life and call it justified? As Black bodies drop like flies around us from physical, medical, economic, and material deprivation and violence at White hands, how can we in any of our minds or metrics conclude that the Whites are alright? What kind of warped standards are these?
by Anonymous | reply 151 | November 20, 2020 10:43 AM |
Because let me tell you something …
A child who grows up to put their knee on someone’s neck and kill them in front of a crowd is “culturally deprived.”
A child who jumps in a car with their parent and chases down and executes a stranger is a “super predator.”
A child who grows up to shoot people while they are worshipping is “at-risk.”
A child who can grow up and never be confronted with how they benefit from racist violence is “levels behind”.
And any school or culture that produces children to grow up like this is failing.
White children are left unchecked and unbothered in their schools, homes and communities to join, advance and protect systems that take away Black life. We never talk about this moral and human failing in White culture as something that needs to get fixed now. Instead, we pour millions of dollars into discussions, conferences, professional development, curriculum and consultancies that talk about fixing Black people. And I’m tired.
I’m tired of White people reveling in their state-sanctioned depravity, snuffing out Black life with no consequences and then having the nerve to tell Black children that they are “behind” and need to work harder.
I’m tired of White people telling Black kids that they need to be held “accountable,” yet killer cops go free when they take Black life and White teachers go free when they miseducate Black kids.
I’m tired of White people taking their violent culture, standards and metrics into Black spaces and telling Black children that they don’t measure up. Because who is really failing here?
Where’s the urgency for school reform for White kids being indoctrinated in Black death and protected from the consequences?
Where are the government-sponsored reports looking into how White mothers are raising culturally deprived children who think Black death is okay?
Where are the national conferences, white papers and policy positions on the pathology of Whiteness in schools and how it leaves White children behind as adults?
Why isn’t Bill Gates throwing billions into school programs teaching White kids how not to grow up racist and choke out Black life?
The federal government needs to commission studies on White neighborhoods that produce and insulate anti-Black physical, economic and political violence. City councils and state legislatures should redline those places and determine them to be “high risk” and unfit for life. School reformers need to lobby, plot and plan on how to disrupt school systems that produce, protect and reward White violence.
Go get Walmart and the Koch brothers to fund tens of thousands of recent White college graduates trained in anti-racism and dispatch them to the disadvantaged all-White school districts across the country full of future killer cops. Take your six weeks of training and be an anti-racist teacher in classrooms full of families that hoard resources, separate their school districts and fund the police to keep their knees on Black necks.
Simply, this time after you take off your Black Lives Matter t-shirt and recycle your protest signs, don’t go back into Black spaces with your usual bullshit. This time if you really want to make a difference in Black lives—and not have to protest this shit again—go reform white kids.
Because that’s where the problem is—with White children being raised from infancy to violate Black bodies with no remorse or accountability. That cop didn’t just learn how to snuff out George Floyd’s life in a police training or on the job. He spent a lifetime preparing for that moment with his parents and family, teachers, coaches, neighborhoods and churches.

Eventually, the fires will burn out and the aftermath of the latest uprisings will clear. The heat in my chest may subside a little, but the grief will still be there for the next time. And unfortunately, there will be a next time because I’ve seen this episode before. We all have. Today we scream for justice but on Monday we’ll call for better police training and a guilty verdict that will only leave the system—all the systems—intact. And we’ll feel better about ourselves as we return to business as usual, preparing children for White violence and Black death, again.
I’m tired.

I was in college when Amadou Diallo was murdered by police and I have never forgotten it.
This didn't begin with and is not isolated to George Floyd or Breonna Taylor or Freddie Gray or anyone recent. It just goes on and on and on.
Amadou Diallo was 23 years old. He was standing on his own porch. He was harassed by police and told to show his ID. He reached for his wallet. He was shot 43 times. The police may as well have shoved his body into a blender. He was slaughtered for no reason at all other than daring to be black and alive. That was 20 years ago and it was a blip. This is why people have drawn a line. It has taken way too long.
I'm some white guy who grew up in a non-diverse suburb of northern Virginia. I'm not black. I wasn't raised in a city. I just fucking look around and listen to people beg and now demand to stop being slaughtered and I wonder how the fuck people like Megyn Kelly persist. Why is it so goddamned hard to agree that human being should not be murdered for looking different and not having generic roots in Europe?

Rodney King? Beaten within an inch of his life? By a gang of cops who face no consequences?
We were in quarantine waiting for the accursed plague to pass over us when footage of Ahmaud Arbery being shot to death by two porkers surfaced. The porkers weren't even cops but faced no charges until public outrage reached a crescendo.
George Zimmerman? a rent a cop thug stalking then killing a 15 year old who looked suspicious?
No charges.
And a terrorist who butchered parishioners during a Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church? Responding officers collected the terrorist without violence and purchased a fast food meal for him while he was detained.
Compare Dylan Roof's treatment, a terrorist who killed people in their place of worship with the detainment with George Floyd, a suspect accused of passing a phony 20 bill who was lynched in the full view of citizens recording this crime.

I truly do not believe any of Megan Kelly's sons will grow up to kill black people or anyone for that matter. To suggest that in a letter to their school is insulting and racist. Megyn pays enough taxes to probably keep many many homeless in single luxury room hotels each year so if her money is not wanted and she wants to leave the city that is her decision to make. Mayor DeBlasio has been insulting and less than grateful to many wealthy NYers over his time in office so it is not a surprise that more and more wealthy families are gone.

Nancy Pelosi was expecting to gain 8 seats in the House and take the Senate for the Dems, but no no no she lost seats and the Dems are struggling to win the Georgia Senate races. Defund the police will be a big issue for many there and it will probably cost 2 great candidates and the Dem party. Let's focus on what is more important.

Fox News can't be blamed for Megyn Kelly. Megyn Kelly is an asshole and she needs to be held responsible for her own words and actions. People don't seem to remember the whole journey from Fox to NBC, which was tethered to Trump, and her utter failure at NBC, which was not entirely due to her not being liberal enough. It was due primarily to her being a total piece of shit human being.
She was a lawyer. She chose to stop practicing law to be a Fox News bimbo. She did her little twirl for Roger Ailes to get on TV. She was a jerk to every non-GOP spokesperson she interviewed. While on Fox, she became known to non-Fox viewers by insisting that the historical Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are both white and that children need to understand that because "it's just true."
She interviewed the one-eyed head of the Satanic Temple and tried to demean and belittle and embarrass him, but throughout the interview, he proved that he has the upper hand intellectually and morally. She failed miserably, and based on this interview I can only assume that she was a really shitty lawyer and that's why she got into propaganda journalism.
She only won favor with some non-Fox fanatics when she asked Trump a few questions about his misogyny and he reacted with misogyny. She then played the part of an attacked woman who holds her head high.
She left Fox when she got a juicy deal from NBC that she didn't deserve. She got the deal because Trump caused a stir for her. She then interviewed Trump on broadcast TV and was completely demure and flattering to him. It was a disgusting spectacle to see her practically flirting with this man who had criticized her by saying she was "bleeding out of her wherever" while moderating a debate.
Then she took to NBC's morning programming. She was hard and harsh. She's unpleasant. What NBC was thinking putting her on morning TV is beyond me. They tried different approaches, but nobody liked watching her. She did fluffy stuff, but then she gave her own little opinion monologues and rubbed people the wrong way. It was disjointed and poorly done. And then, yes, she tried to have a 'thoughtful discussion' in defense of blackface without considering why it offends people. This came as reports were coming out saying that everyone who worked with her and for her at NBC hated her and they were asking for her to be reassigned or fired. Then she had Jane Fonda on, who was there to promote some fluffy entertainment shit, and she decided to direct the interview to Fonda's cosmetic surgery. Fonda was pleasant enough about it and Kelly harassed her about it until Fonda said she was there to promote her work and not to be harassed. Then Kelly was fired.
NBC hired Kelly because she was an 'It Woman' in the moment, and presumably because they thought her debate moderating tone, the way she handled Trump, and her legal background, warranted a $69 million contract. When NBC fired her, they had to pay her $30 million just to get rid of her. No one pays someone $30 million to go away just for having a few unpopular opinions. No one likes her. They didn't like her at Fox. They didn't like her at NBC. She strides around with apparent confidence, but she was willing to wiggle her ass, bleach her hair and glue shit to her eyes to be a sexy Barbie News lady and then insulted an octogenarian actress and activist on air when no one wanted to see that. I just don't see anything to defend about her.

Interesting take. Looking at CNN, I assume then that Democratic men want their news from women who will crush their nuts or at least play dominatrix.

Kelly's PR firm at R168, r169 et al. is really slow on the uptake. Google notices are instantaneous, yet it took them a day and a half to catch wind of this thread.
[Quote]I’m sure none of you have listened to her podcast
I think this is the essence of the problem. NOBODY is listening to her podcast, so she reverts to her mentor Ailes's tactics in hopes of attention and publicity and increased ratings. Put out a sliver of distorted "information" without context, obfuscate any relevant facts, play victim and blame a "liberal" institution (which Collegiate isn't, apparently) and wait for the "fair-minded" yet aggrieved Fox type white to come to the rescue of their embattled, fair warrior princess.
[Quote]where she has on Republicans and Democrats alike and makes very good points for both sides and the issues with woke-ism
Yet she puts out a divisive battle call about a letter a parents' committee saw FIVE MONTHS AGO that a certain type of former viewer from Fox will be enraged by regardless of the facts surrounding the letter. This action really mimics the "spirit" of her program.
Conclusion: Megyn Kelly's PR is a failure all around. Then again, she hasn't given them much to work with.

I think i love r174. Perfectly put.
The extra layer to this sad and stupid cake, is that Megan (or however she spells her little rat face name) is now desperately kissing up to the people who shunned her. Gretchen Carlson may still be conservative, but she seems to have taken the money and accepted her fate to fade into obscurity. Rat face is trying to stage a comeback somehow but nobody cares.
She needs to accept that she has to either work the Christofacist circuit as a source of income, or invest well, move somewhere cheap and become a right wing nutcase on Nashville One - Nashville’s Hottest Talk Radio *

R157 it has to be asked...how many white people are killed by black people?
I don’t most killer cops attend prestigious liberal NYC high schools, nor do you the racist rednecks you read about.

For a period, a few sympathetic media liberals attempted to redeem her. First with praise for her criticism of trump and then with promotion of that ridiculous movie Bombshell, which bombed (haha) because it tried way to hard to make this sleazy opportunist into a feminist icon. It was beyond disgraceful that the first major me too movie centered on a repulsive rich white fascist as a heroine. One my pet peeves is the willingness that certain liberals have to give asshole conservatives the benefit of a doubt and seeing hidden goodness where it doesn't exist.

I wonder if DL Hugly would go on her podcast and talk about what happened when he appeared on her fox news show several years ago.
It's not like he's scared of her racist ass.
I'd listen to that episode.

Conservatives aren’t going to have anything to with a liberal like Megyn, so that’s a non-starter.

Instead you answered how many cops kills whites.

R174 all those adjectives don’t really strengthen your point. She was a lawyer who got a job at fox, went to nbc, did not perform well at nbc, said some ridiculous stuff about black face and lost her job. Let’s burn her at the cross. This instant outrage because she had/ has some conservative connections/views is so tiresome.

Trump literally had her scared for her life and then when her feud with him caused her professional setbacks she went back to sucking up to him. It is one of the most disgusting displays of self abasement ever seen on TV
Interesting the above article from Vice about the descendants of the confederate soldiers in Brazil makes no mention of Lansford Hastings the man who set the Donner party on their catastrophic trek to California using Hasting's Cutoff. After attempting and failing create a republic in California he eventually joined the Confederate army and after the war joined other soldiers down in Brazil and wrote 'The Emigrant's Guide to Brazil' to encourage more disenfranchised southerners to move down there . He had previously written The Emigrants guide to Oregon and California inspiring many people to go west and misleading some of them into what he claimed was a shorter route than the one going to Oregon which led to the 1947 disaster.

I love Megyn Kelly. She is a real sweetheart and loved by all. Not sure why the media has always depicted her as cold. It's probably just jealousy. Many people don't know, but she dedicates every Christmas and Thanksgiving to volunteering in homeless shelters and soup kitchens. She always gives her old designer clothes to Dress for Success, and even before she twirled for the guys at Fox, she did private auctions of her cooch to billionaires and she always have a portion of the proceeds to help the poor.*

As others have noted, she's *desperately* trying to get herself back in the discussion in hopes of a triumphant return to a post-Dump Fox News or some other right wing medium, though one senses she's dead to them at this point.
I don't have kids & I don't know much about private schools, but unless she wants to send her kids to PUBLIC schools (an idea just to horrible to grasp), I'm guessing it will be the same political correctness on steroids environment that it was in NYC

The "Parents Diversity Group" circulated a copy of letter among themselves in June, when a lot of Black Lives Matter things were going on all over the country. June.
Five months later, Megyn Kelly flips out over it, makes a public stink, pulls her sons out of the school and her daughter as well and screeches that she's leaving New York.
If she were actually worried about her children at that school, wouldn't she have simply transferred them somewhere else over the Summer? She saw the letter in June. It's November.
She's full of shit and phony as a three dollar bill.

Why are people here defending this woman? She's vile. If she espoused the same ideas with even the tiniest hint of warmth and human empathy, her idea would still be repulsive. But she doesn't, and so the whole woman is repulsive, not just her ideas. She is so hardened and acrid just like Kellyanne Conway. Both are those frilled dinosaurs that spit poison. Even if their frills are folded back and they're not spitting poison, they're still cold blooded lizards.

Megyn Kelly is a center-right/libertarian at best, in any other nation on the planet, she would be called a Liberal which is a right wing political ideology. Of course decades of cold war brainwashing left Americans quite clueless as far as political philosophy is concerned, so I'm not surprised by the comments upthread. Most ignore that ideology is a spectrum and is far from being binary.
Libertarians and many (right wing) liberals like Kelly back many causes that are also espoused by the left because they concern personal freedoms and are perceived as progressive, that's probably why she sees herself as center left (I listened to a podcast where she claims this). She's still right wing anywhere else in the world.
You can be right wing and espouse progressive causes, specially if they concern personal freedoms and the cultural aspect of social life and not the economic side of it. It's sad how radicalism has stupefied most people today.
