How do you use a Reynolds Oven Bag?

I took the leap and bought a box of Reynolds Oven Bags to cook my Thanksgiving turkey.

But I have no idea how to use them?

Are you really supposed to put your turkey in there, and stick it in the oven?

That makes me scared. I'm afraid that it'll melt all over my turkey and burn!

I actually bought a whole bunch of them. What else can I cook in these things?

Read the instructions

by Anonymousreply 1November 10, 2020 12:21 AM

If you’re so fucking worried about it dumbass why don’t you wrap it in foil first then put the fucking bag over it? That will make it juicer too you fucking butt hole.

Rofl, R2.

Thanks, love!

by Anonymousreply 3November 10, 2020 12:28 AM

Try putting it over your head.

by Anonymousreply 4November 10, 2020 12:39 AM

In college, I used to cook entire meals with these. Have no use for them now, but I haven't seen them in a while.

Aluminum foil is way better for your turkey!

by Anonymousreply 7November 10, 2020 1:30 AM

Make sure you put the children in first, and season to taste. Add potatoes, carrots, and onions, & seal tightly. Place in a very large roasting pan, and carefully place in the oven @350° for 4½ hours. Allow to rest for 20 minutes before serving.

by Anonymousreply 8November 10, 2020 1:43 AM

(r8) My husband doesn't like carrots so I put broccoli in instead. And I added just a bit of lemon - delicious

by Anonymousreply 9November 10, 2020 1:48 AM

Well, I can make a hat; I can make a brooch; I can make a pterodactyl!

r11, and we wouldn't have it any other way!

by Anonymousreply 13November 10, 2020 3:49 PM

Wasn't there something about bad chemicals in these bags? Maybe they have fixed that.

by Anonymousreply 14November 10, 2020 5:39 PM

I always thought the chemicals might leach into the bird, but OP, if you want to use it, just make sure you grease the bird with something (butter, oil) and include stuff in the bag that will render a bit of liquid (stuffing with vegetables, etc) and you should be fine.

The bag will turn very brown, but that's normal. If it goes on fire, not so normal.

I've never used one of the oven bags, but for years I've used the Reynolds slow-cooker liners and they're great! It's a royal pain in the ass to clean a slow-cooker, but when you use a Reynolds liner, there is ZERO cleanup. I've never heard an authenticated case of plastic contamination. For that reason, I say go for it.

by Anonymousreply 16November 10, 2020 8:03 PM

It's like the necessity of having plastic on lamp shades and furniture, you put the turkey in the bag when you are ready to serve it.

by Anonymousreply 17November 10, 2020 8:08 PM

I know with a Dutch oven bag, you fart into it before putting it over someone's head.

by Anonymousreply 18November 10, 2020 8:09 PM

An old friend who was not an experienced cook used those bags all the time. But for items smaller than a turkey. A small roast, for example.

I always thought them odd, but they worked. His dinners were not transcendent experiences, but the things he put in those bags raw came out cooked and moist and seasoned. If you're not a good cook, they might be helpful.

Anyone who puts poultry in a bag and then roasts it, should be SHOT!

Savages!

by Anonymousreply 20November 10, 2020 8:38 PM

OP you are right to question a product that has been around for decades, you can never be too safe, but why aren't you worried that the oven will explode?

by Anonymousreply 21November 10, 2020 8:43 PM

[quote] OP you are right to question a product that has been around for decades

Saccharine has been around for decades too, but you don't see anyone using that shit!

ASS. HOLE.

by Anonymousreply 22November 10, 2020 8:47 PM

Love Reynolds Oven Bags for my annual Christmas Turkey. Turkey comes out so moist and delicious. It's almost foolproof. Sometimes "around for decades" is good.

by Anonymousreply 23November 10, 2020 8:50 PM

Poor thing. R22 has missed the point ENTIRELY.

I'd wager she's used to that.

by Anonymousreply 24November 10, 2020 8:50 PM

[quote] Saccharine has been around for decades too, but you don't see anyone using that shit! ASS. HOLE.

1. "Saccharine" is an adjective and is used all the time.

2. SACCHARIN is the main ingredient in Sweet'n Low, which is used by millions of people every day.

by Anonymousreply 25November 10, 2020 8:55 PM

Those bags are excellent for storing weed. The odor is well contained.

by Anonymousreply 26November 10, 2020 9:00 PM

Just use a ziplock bag, R26.

Same difference.

by Anonymousreply 27November 10, 2020 9:02 PM

OP, for some reason I find you very endearing!

My mother would do stuff like that all the time, "I don't really know what this does/or how to use it, but I'm going to go ahead and buy a bunch of them." LOL

by Anonymousreply 28November 10, 2020 9:13 PM

OP—Do NOT listen to R27!

by Anonymousreply 29November 11, 2020 1:54 AM

R29, the ziplock bag at R27 was in reference to storing MARIJUANA/WEED, and not a turkey.

Just fyi. lol

by Anonymousreply 30November 11, 2020 1:55 AM

My mom used to use them to cook pot roasts. It kept them from drying out. I tried it when I first began cooking and made a few pot roasts that way. Now I just use a dutch oven.

I bought a box of the bags on impulse a couple of years ago and they've sat in a drawer ever since.

I'd do some googling, OP.

by Anonymousreply 31November 11, 2020 2:09 AM

a friend made a turkey in one of those bags one Thanksgiving and it was absolutely delicious. you don't get crispy skin but a lot of people don't eat that anyway. It was so juicy. She also seasoned it which I though made a lot of difference.

by Anonymousreply 32November 11, 2020 2:12 AM

[quote][R29], the ziplock bag at [R27] was in reference to storing MARIJUANA/WEED, and not a turkey.

Jeebus, that'll teach me to read a posting all the way through before commenting on it! And you're right—why waste an expensive oven bag when you can use a Ziploic® to store your weed in?

by Anonymousreply 33November 11, 2020 2:28 AM

It seems like it would make the turkey steam instead of roast.

by Anonymousreply 34November 11, 2020 2:30 AM

It's more of a braising bag, although they seem to be popular for turkeys.

Without the crispy skin, though, what's the point?

by Anonymousreply 35November 11, 2020 2:33 AM

Please please be kind, OP is preparing food for one of the most sacred American holidays.

by Anonymousreply 36November 11, 2020 2:49 AM

Hey OP, here's a randomly grabbed youtube on how to use a roasting bag for a turkey. There are quite a few of them, I suggest you watch two or three and then give it a whirl.

R22, 170,000 gas stoves have been recalled because they could explode, no oven bags have been recalled because they could explode.
