How do you use a Reynolds Oven Bag?
I took the leap and bought a box of Reynolds Oven Bags to cook my Thanksgiving turkey.
But I have no idea how to use them?
Are you really supposed to put your turkey in there, and stick it in the oven?
That makes me scared. I'm afraid that it'll melt all over my turkey and burn!
I actually bought a whole bunch of them. What else can I cook in these things?

If you’re so fucking worried about it dumbass why don’t you wrap it in foil first then put the fucking bag over it? That will make it juicer too you fucking butt hole.

Try putting it over your head.

In college, I used to cook entire meals with these. Have no use for them now, but I haven't seen them in a while.

Aluminum foil is way better for your turkey!

Make sure you put the children in first, and season to taste. Add potatoes, carrots, and onions, & seal tightly. Place in a very large roasting pan, and carefully place in the oven @350° for 4½ hours. Allow to rest for 20 minutes before serving.

(r8) My husband doesn't like carrots so I put broccoli in instead. And I added just a bit of lemon - delicious

Wasn't there something about bad chemicals in these bags? Maybe they have fixed that.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 10, 2020 5:39 PM

I always thought the chemicals might leach into the bird, but OP, if you want to use it, just make sure you grease the bird with something (butter, oil) and include stuff in the bag that will render a bit of liquid (stuffing with vegetables, etc) and you should be fine.
The bag will turn very brown, but that's normal. If it goes on fire, not so normal.

I've never used one of the oven bags, but for years I've used the Reynolds slow-cooker liners and they're great! It's a royal pain in the ass to clean a slow-cooker, but when you use a Reynolds liner, there is ZERO cleanup. I've never heard an authenticated case of plastic contamination. For that reason, I say go for it.

It's like the necessity of having plastic on lamp shades and furniture, you put the turkey in the bag when you are ready to serve it.

I know with a Dutch oven bag, you fart into it before putting it over someone's head.

An old friend who was not an experienced cook used those bags all the time. But for items smaller than a turkey. A small roast, for example.
I always thought them odd, but they worked. His dinners were not transcendent experiences, but the things he put in those bags raw came out cooked and moist and seasoned. If you're not a good cook, they might be helpful.

Anyone who puts poultry in a bag and then roasts it, should be SHOT!
Savages!

OP you are right to question a product that has been around for decades, you can never be too safe, but why aren't you worried that the oven will explode?

Saccharine has been around for decades too, but you don't see anyone using that shit!
ASS. HOLE.

Love Reynolds Oven Bags for my annual Christmas Turkey. Turkey comes out so moist and delicious. It's almost foolproof. Sometimes "around for decades" is good.

Poor thing. R22 has missed the point ENTIRELY.
I'd wager she's used to that.

1. "Saccharine" is an adjective and is used all the time.
2. SACCHARIN is the main ingredient in Sweet'n Low, which is used by millions of people every day.

Those bags are excellent for storing weed. The odor is well contained.

Just use a ziplock bag, R26.
Same difference.

OP, for some reason I find you very endearing!
My mother would do stuff like that all the time, "I don't really know what this does/or how to use it, but I'm going to go ahead and buy a bunch of them." LOL

R29, the ziplock bag at R27 was in reference to storing MARIJUANA/WEED, and not a turkey.
Just fyi. lol

My mom used to use them to cook pot roasts. It kept them from drying out. I tried it when I first began cooking and made a few pot roasts that way. Now I just use a dutch oven.
I bought a box of the bags on impulse a couple of years ago and they've sat in a drawer ever since.
I'd do some googling, OP.

a friend made a turkey in one of those bags one Thanksgiving and it was absolutely delicious. you don't get crispy skin but a lot of people don't eat that anyway. It was so juicy. She also seasoned it which I though made a lot of difference.

Jeebus, that'll teach me to read a posting all the way through before commenting on it! And you're right—why waste an expensive oven bag when you can use a Ziploic® to store your weed in?

It seems like it would make the turkey steam instead of roast.

It's more of a braising bag, although they seem to be popular for turkeys.
Without the crispy skin, though, what's the point?

Hey OP, here's a randomly grabbed youtube on how to use a roasting bag for a turkey. There are quite a few of them, I suggest you watch two or three and then give it a whirl.

R22, 170,000 gas stoves have been recalled because they could explode, no oven bags have been recalled because they could explode.
