I always liked Holly and often wondered why she was not more consistently prominent. Yeah, she had some good stories along the way, but seemed under utilized at many other times.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 31, 2020 4:31 PM |
Holly liked licking the puss.......well at least Mo Garrett did/does.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 31, 2020 4:44 PM |
You'll have to pardon R3. She hasn't had her electroshock treatments yet today.
ANYWAY......
It would have been something to have Holly come out on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 31, 2020 4:57 PM |
If Ellen Wheeler had been smart she would have made Holly the new Bert Bauer. I always thought it would have made sense to center things around the Marlers. Make Holly the matriarch. Give Blake and Ross really story. And make Clarissa and the twins romantic leads. So much rich history. But of course she settled for the white trash Coopers.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 31, 2020 4:57 PM |
Clarissa Marler would have been a great new era Vanessa....spoiled brat.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 31, 2020 5:14 PM |
Maureen should have an Emmy on her mantel.
She always delivered.
I think she came back for a handful of episodes once Blake's true identity was revealed in late 1988 and Pam Long saw what she brought to the screen and kept her around.
Michelle stared at Holly once and Holly said what? Michelle said: "You act like everything's funny but you never laugh."
Here's one of her many great scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 31, 2020 7:21 PM |
Peter Simon said in The Locher Room interview that he was concerned that there was no path of redemption for Ed after Maureen’s death. JFP wasn’t interested. She wanted to explore the Holly Michelle relationship which really never went anywhere. I always loved the Ed Holly scenes. One of my favorites.

Wow R9 thank you for that. How in the world have I never seen that? That is easily one of the top 5 GL scenes of all times. Peter Simon was incredible and Maureen Garrett was heartbreaking, Thank you so much.

Thank you R7 for posting that Ed/Holly/Ross/Blake scene, it’s one of my all-time GL favorites. Holly’s monologue is so beautifully written and it’s finally the moment when Ross and Blake realize how much they hurt her. And even now, almost 28 years later I had tears in my eyes at the end of clip, with Ed alone in the kitchen, saying “It’s all done” and the long, dramatic pan of the empty room. Mary!

R47, I'd love to see Alan talk to Diva Von Dish, that screamingly funny Digest columnist plus some of the ones who covered soaps back in the 80s and 90s, but they may all be dead or gone now.
I'm sure Digest reporters and editors have stories about Hinsey.

Diva von Dish on soaps' worst dressed characters:
"Miss Ellie, you may find the wearing of a housecoat to every family formal function appropriate, but I do not. I saw what you wore to Pam and Bobby's wedding. Did you WANT to be there?"
"Adrienne Johnson, now that you've found your brother you can finally stop dressing like him."

Irony is that Grant talked about being a fat kid, and only losing the weight by weight lifting. But the feeling of being that fat kid, never went away for Grant as he spoke many times of looking in the mirror and seeing that fat kid in the reflection.
He was never comfortable with the shirtless scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | November 9, 2020 12:00 AM |
On AMC, when he was still in his prime and had that MANE of hair...Alec scoops up his mother in law Arlene on his wedding night and they have sex; she'd threatened with exposing him if he didn't.
The scene was incredibly erotic and powerful; Arlene is demanding that they have sex but at one point she starts to run away and he grabs her and doesn't let her go.
I thought for sure we'd get Alec with his shirt off, but no cigar.
Still, the scenes were compelling.

That also explains why Grant looked for "inner-beauty" in real-life. He has been married to his wife for decades, meeting in University and staying with her. With his looks and celebrity, he could have played the field. But he stayed faithful to his wife, because he knows looks are very superficial.

R89, good points about Grant.
I know everyone talks about the Rick Phillip friendship, but it was the onscreen dynamic with Phillip and Alan-Michael (Carl) that got me. Even when AM couldn't see it, Phillip was trying to be the best big brother (well, most of the time).
was heartened to see that Carl spoke well of Grant, taking him under his wing in the early days.

by Anonymous | reply 108 | November 11, 2020 3:17 PM |
Maree is such a stupid spelling for Marie.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | November 11, 2020 3:39 PM |
Actually Maree was very upset she couldn't participate - the show was delayed for 30 minutes, because Maree was having technical difficulties. By the time they went to air, they could only broadcast audio of Maree - and because it was delayed 30 minutes, Maree had to go because she had an audition
If Maree did not have technical difficulties, she would have stayed for the first part of the show, then left to her audition. But she sent her love to all the "Search" fans and made a point to relay a message from Lisa Peluso (who she still keeps in touch with) that Lisa sends her love to all the "Search" fans .
At which point Maree promised to be at the next "Search" reunion that Alan might put on, and teased the audience by saying that she might get Lisa Peluso to participate!

Marcia McCabe has been all up and down the east coast lately with her shiny new boyfriend and out visiting her lezzy daughter in the west and helped her move back to NYC. [quote]Do we think Jay Hammer got his ex Pam Long to participate in the Bev session? I watched Jay with Susan Pratt and it seemed like he was on decent terms with Pam.
That was my first thought.
I've been wondering why Alan hasn't booked Pam. It's not like she refuses to discuss her GL days. She's done other podcasts over the years. Not a lot. But she has done them.
Maybe it just took Jay giving his stamp of approval - "I fun time doing it. Alan's a great guy." - to convince her. That's how Alan has eventually gotten a lot of other. I mean, Martha Byrne had to talk Liz Hubbard into participating.

Beth/ Lujack were equals. They sparked. Beth/Phillip were great but it was always clear Phillip loved Beth more than she loved him even when she came back controversially in ‘97. Then, she just came across as desperately trying to recapture some semblance of a normal life, not uncommon with former abuse victims.
Beth/ Lujack suffered late in their run with bad stories but damn they had IT.

Nothing out there about Pam Long on that episode. Not yet, anyway.
Pam was friendly enough on the podcast she was on around the time GL was cancelled, but she wasn't all that forthcoming about details. It was more of a generic "it was a lot of fun" sort of thing. Nancy Curlee was a bit more forthcoming but also seemed peevish that people were still asking her questions about stories from what was then 20 years earlier (now 30).

I can’t believe it! Just started watching the Locher Room Search for Tomorrow thing and literally the first question was, “Maree, do you remember your first day.” Another poster alluded to that but I thought they were kidding!
Would love if, when they introduced one of these guests, they jumped in with, “...and before you ask, I have zero recollection of my first day. Is there any point if me staying on?”
by Anonymous | reply 128 | November 12, 2020 11:37 PM |
Homely Locher never varies his questions. They’re all the same.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 12, 2020 11:48 PM |
He asks the same questions even if it's repeat people. He told two GL actors who had already appeared to just say their first day stuff again even though we'd heard it two months before. It's bonkers.
On one hand it's a free service done very generously to bring people together during a pandemic. But on another hand they've gotten so boring and repetitive there's no point. I think he's so afraid of gossip and dirty laundry getting aired that this is his way of keeping the convo as G-rated as possible.

Someone needs to write him and say DO NOT ASK ANOTHER PERSON WHAT THEIR FUCKING FIRST DAY WAS ALL ABOUT.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | November 13, 2020 3:36 PM |
I actually like the first day question. So sue me.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | November 13, 2020 4:13 PM |
R132 It was OK the first hundred times. But when these people are giving their time, and Alan is actually asking them a question he already asked them before, that just shows how bad he is at what he's doing.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | November 13, 2020 4:15 PM |
Well, consider that Alan was the P&G publicist during the final, god awful ending years of GL and ATWT. He was pimping back then about how wonderful and revolutionary Peapack was. How could he live with himself knowing that he was spewing shit.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | November 13, 2020 4:31 PM |
Alan should start asking people about their last day instead. He'd surely get more colorful answers.
by Anonymous | reply 135 | November 13, 2020 4:56 PM |
HUGE Phillip and Beth fan here, but had Lujack lived, Beth should have and would have stayed with him. She grew away from Phillip.
The show lost a HUGE opportunity to still have Nick on when Beth came back in 1997.
The whole Phillip/Harley thing was a mess; Phillip busted Beth for trying to get AC to come back to town. She should have called Alan Michael. especially if they could have gotten Carl back.
by Anonymous | reply 136 | November 13, 2020 5:19 PM |
The other annoying Locher question is using the word ‘quarantine’. No one is quarantining except for those who may have been exposed, they may quarantine for 2 weeks but 99.9999999999999% of people have not ever quarantined during this pandemic.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | November 13, 2020 6:19 PM |
Harley had suprisingly good chemistry with Josh. ZERO chemistry with Philip.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | November 13, 2020 6:21 PM |
I thought Harley and Phillip had chemistry but it should have remained a friendship chemistry.
OR they hooked up one night in their sadness and then sent each other off on their way.
Making them a big couple was the mistake.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | November 13, 2020 6:23 PM |
who was the writer who put Phillip and Beth on the plane so they could make baby James?
that needed to happen.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | November 13, 2020 6:50 PM |
Maybe he should ask them about their LAST DAY too.
In some cases that might be more interesting.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | November 13, 2020 7:42 PM |
But, Locher was the publicist when these shows ended and he avoids any negativity while he was at those shows. I agree, last day is a better question then first day, but it won’t happen. Queen locher knows the answer would be that it was hard seeing these shows die a slow death while you made us pretend all was well.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | November 13, 2020 8:34 PM |
With the Beverlee tribute, Alan can ask a variation of his favorite question.
He can ask, "Do you remember the first time you met Beverlee?"
by Anonymous | reply 143 | November 14, 2020 6:12 AM |
I'll be especially curious to hear what Scott McKinsey has to say about his mother.
The rest of them -- Grant, Vince, Mark Derwin and Jay Hammer -- have all briefly mentioned Bevelee during their sessions, so we have at least some idea of what they're going to say.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | November 14, 2020 6:15 AM |
Excuse me R46 but I have my music career!
by Anonymous | reply 145 | November 14, 2020 2:23 PM |
[quote]who was the writer who put Phillip and Beth on the plane so they could make baby James?
Brown and Essenstein were the writers doing most of the San Cristobel stories, including Phillip and Beth being in a plane crash atop a snow covered mountain on a tropical island.

[quote] Someone needs to write him and say DO NOT ASK ANOTHER PERSON WHAT THEIR FUCKING FIRST DAY WAS ALL ABOUT.
I'm on a first name basis with him on twitter, but I won't ask him that
by Anonymous | reply 147 | November 15, 2020 2:04 AM |
R146 Baby James was the one good idea they executed.
by Anonymous | reply 148 | November 15, 2020 6:45 AM |
Vee should become host of the Locher Room. He’s in the biz, you know.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | November 15, 2020 10:25 AM |
I'd want Phillip and his pendulous dong inside of my cooter too, airplane or not.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | November 15, 2020 3:40 PM |
the writers had Phillip not giving Beth an inch when she came back in 1997; you'd think Harley had been the great love of his life.
it took a while to get to that payoff with the plane crash; and the parallels of Phillip telling Jim that James wasn't his were parallel to Alan and Justin both being Philllip's dad; alas, poor Jim was killed later; and even more sad Tony Addabbo died in 2016; he left behind a son named -- wait for -- Brandon.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | November 15, 2020 7:01 PM |
Tony Addabo had a hot ass but couldn’t live forever.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | November 15, 2020 9:05 PM |
I liked Anthony Addabbo on Generations and on Bold & Beautiful. But he was awful on GL
Jim Lemay was absolutely the most boring person on the show EVER. So bland. So yawn-worthy. So not interesting. Friends and I used to joke Jim Lemay was a cure for insomnia.
I was never clear if the show intended Jim Lemay to be so dull or its just how it worked out. Did Addabbo purposely create a dull as dishwater character? Or was Addabbo just incapable of infusing something interesting into his portrayal?
by Anonymous | reply 153 | November 16, 2020 12:52 AM |
R153 it was the writing
by Anonymous | reply 154 | November 16, 2020 12:54 AM |
Strange the show would purposefully create a super-whitebread character like Jim Lemay. But its what they got.
Brown and Essenstein were such mediocre writers. I'm shocked they lasted four years as HW.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | November 16, 2020 1:19 AM |
when a hot actor plays a boring character, he stands out like a sore thumb
the original Jim Lemay and his wife were kind of dullsville but they were supposed to be.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | November 16, 2020 5:53 PM |
Reminder: McKinsey themed locher room today
Btw, Pam Long will NOT attend; I got some bad intel; hopefully, he gets her for another Locher room; she could fill a whole hour by herself.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | November 16, 2020 5:54 PM |
Pam has the dementia. She won’t be in any locker room.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | November 16, 2020 7:22 PM |
I used to wank to Ed as a young gayling. So HOT .
by Anonymous | reply 159 | November 16, 2020 7:33 PM |
Mark Derwin also pulled out at the last minute citing a "family emergency"
by Anonymous | reply 160 | November 16, 2020 7:35 PM |
Lord, Miss Locher is reciting her book report
by Anonymous | reply 161 | November 16, 2020 8:05 PM |
And once again, Vincent is completely monopolizing the conversation
by Anonymous | reply 162 | November 16, 2020 8:07 PM |
Vincent just asked Scott if he remembered the first day he met Beverlee.
Alan should call on people; not just ask them to all go at once.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | November 16, 2020 8:10 PM |
That was funny when Vincent asked that. Nice subtle shade.
Scott talking about his mom is really the gold star content on this. Lovely
by Anonymous | reply 164 | November 16, 2020 8:26 PM |
this is great; I'm a diehard Grant fan, but I see him listening so much here, taking it all in; it's why he's such a great actor.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | November 16, 2020 8:27 PM |
R165 we talk about Grant's hotness and his "pendulousness" here but he really is a very, very nice person to boot.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | November 16, 2020 8:47 PM |
Okay, I had tears in my eyes but when Grant read that letter I sobbed.
SOBBED.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | November 16, 2020 10:43 PM |
So the rumor is officially confirmed - there's a book about Beverlee in the works.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | November 16, 2020 10:53 PM |
Wonderful memories of Beverlee today...including stories of her last day on set that only add to her legend.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | November 16, 2020 11:54 PM |
What was said about her last day on set?
by Anonymous | reply 170 | November 16, 2020 11:58 PM |
There was a line-up of people outside Bev dressing room door to say good-bye - when Jordan Clarke (Billy) reached Bev he asked "Anyone got dibs for your dressing room?"
by Anonymous | reply 171 | November 16, 2020 11:59 PM |
A nice mention of Marj at the end, as well.
They did not share the Kim Z story of her complaining about her script: "I could eat a page of this and SHIT OUT a better script than this!"
by Anonymous | reply 172 | November 17, 2020 12:29 AM |
R170, you have to watch but Jay Hammer recounting walking with her to Jill's office to say "I'm done" and the poor p.a. (rock and a hard place -- her boss and the queen star of the show) didn't connect them as Jill was on vacation and was only to be disturbed. Bev said well, it's pretty important.
I wonder if the p.a. got reamed?
by Anonymous | reply 173 | November 17, 2020 1:14 AM |
It was Bev who said that about popping out a better script.
Wasn't it? I can't find the clip on youtube but it used to be there.
by Anonymous | reply 174 | November 17, 2020 1:37 AM |
R174 Yes, I meant Kim shared the story of Bev making that comment.
by Anonymous | reply 175 | November 17, 2020 4:06 AM |
thanks R175; the clip of Grant (in an orange shirt, I recall) isn't on Youtube, that I can find.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | November 17, 2020 4:35 AM |
Did Ms Locher ask them if they saw Tom Pelphrey in OzarK?
by Anonymous | reply 177 | November 17, 2020 1:50 PM |
Ms Locker asked Grant to show his dong.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | November 17, 2020 2:01 PM |
And did Jill Lorie Hurst act as the buttinsky she’s been for the past eight months?
by Anonymous | reply 179 | November 17, 2020 9:27 PM |
Jill wasn't on this program. And she's hardly a buttinsky. Though on that one show Alan was pressing her to be all buddy buddy with him (very odd).
by Anonymous | reply 180 | November 17, 2020 9:49 PM |
Jill was in the chat. I only listened to the first half hour until Jay Hammer became too annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | November 17, 2020 9:58 PM |
Sad we didn't get to see Derwin's hot ass. He needs to do one shirtless.
I would SO subscribe to his OnlyFans. LOL
by Anonymous | reply 182 | November 17, 2020 10:03 PM |
Jill has nothing else to do. Notice how she’s never written another network soap after killing GL? Chappell did hire her to write Venice but that’s just a few episodes per ‘season’ and that was only for a short time.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | November 17, 2020 10:04 PM |
anyway
by Anonymous | reply 184 | November 18, 2020 1:41 AM |
You all should really be tuning into THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, television’s number one daytime drama. Kay, as played by me, Scoche Marin, already has the glow of pregnancy. This will develop into an umbrella story for the entire canvas. Every character will be connected to the love child of Nicholas Newman and Katherine Shepherd Reynolds Chancellor Thurston Sterling Murphy.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | November 18, 2020 2:23 AM |
anyway
by Anonymous | reply 186 | November 18, 2020 3:27 PM |
I could never figure out why Fletcher Reade was on the canvas so long - he never seemed to serve a purpose.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | November 18, 2020 3:32 PM |
R187 Agreed. I really thought once Maeve died and his sister left he'd be gone. He was interesting as a foil for Alex, but to be honest, I never really liked or understood his pairing with Holly, and thought the whole Meg storyline was, while a good story to tell, not suited to tell *with Holly and Fletcher.*
by Anonymous | reply 188 | November 18, 2020 4:38 PM |
They're saying Holly has been Murieled, so now we're on Beth Raines. Gee that sounds sort of kinky.
Anyway move on over. Beth linked below.
