Any Other WSJ Subscribers?

While their Editorial team has always been very conservative they used to focus on a variety of issues from foreign policy to space exploration to trade deals--I rarely if ever agreed, but easy enough to ignore .

But over the past few months, it's just become a hooting chorus of "Biden Sucks!" and "Fake Hunter Story" and all that. Today they feature "the pollster who thinks Trump will win (TL;DR--he's all about the "shy Trump voter" as if this was still 2016)

It's hard to ignore these pieces as they are prominent on the website.

It's gotten to the point where I consider cancelling my subscription several times a week.

BUT... the News division often writes anti-Trump pieces or at least keeps the slant pretty unnoticeable And political news is not really their focus, business news is. They also have great lifestyle pieces and do a great job of covering the tech and media industries.

So then I decide it's worth it to stay subscribed just for that, until I see the next reactionary Op Ed piece...

Anyone else having similar qualms?

I canceled my sub and stopped reading it altogether after Murdoch bought the paper.

Unsubscribe. Why read that shit?

by Anonymousreply 2October 30, 2020 1:07 AM

Because it has a lot of good information I need for my job R2--they do a great job covering tech and media in addition to the financial markets. They often break stories so it's not like you can find the information elsewhere

I've grown tired of it as well. Everything has some political slant to it and I've just grown tired of it. I've not canceled my subscription but I don't think I'll renew it either. When they jumped on the Hunter Biden bandwagon at the last minute it really turned me off. Though I didn't agree with Twitter and Facebook's censorship either.

Horrible rightwing newspaper opened by Murdoch and all about getting people to care only about money. There was a time when it did have some good reporters and some excellent writing but those days are long gone. Now it's just a fancy version of the NY Post.

Glad I am not alone R4

Like I said, their Op-Eds have always been conservative but they were just as often pro-business, e.g., praising some factory owner who came up with an innovation that let him fight off lower priced Chinese competitors, stuff like that.

And sorry R5, it still has a strong News division, they're the ones who refused to be cowed by Trump and Murdoch and put out a piece saying that the Hunter Biden story was fake news right after the Editorial section put up a piece accusing Joe Biden

The medium is and, always will be, the message. All news media has a slant, NYT, NPR, and WSJ included, even though they claim to be impartial. Depends on who and what you want to believe. I enjoy reading WSJ despite their slant because, as OP pointed out, they have useful information. Their Sunday Review section is also enjoyable.

We canceled our subscription due to the assholery of their editorial page and also, thanks to Trump's Post Master shit-head, the paper does not arrive reliably, as it once did. For our stock/financial info, we now rely on Barron's instead. It's a shame, as I have enjoyed the WSJ since I was a kid and have subscribed most of my life. I actually should have dumped it when Murdoch took over but sentimentality (my dad loved the WSJ) prevented me, I guess. If you do cancel, be sure and tell them why you did. Perhaps, if enough people stopped subscribing, they MIGHT ramp down their right-wing ranting.

Murdoch ruins everything he touches. Seriously - he needs to go down as one of the worst men the world has produced.

by Anonymousreply 9October 30, 2020 2:00 AM

I'm a subscriber and I agree. The news reporting is still top notch - IMO better than the NYT. But the Op Ed page is getting ridiculous. So no, you aren't the only ones OP & R6.

I agree R9

He certainly stoked the level of hatred in America via Fox News and this other media outlets, spread lies and hatred.

I unsubscribed recently.

I don't subscribe but I bypass the paywall and read it anyway.

Peggy Noonan. WSJ. Says it all. She’s a self important cunt.

by Anonymousreply 15October 30, 2020 2:07 AM

Yes but she is pretty virulently anti-Trump R15 and thus drives the Trumpists who populate their comments section crazy.

Her pieces will get literally 2000 comments all of them from angry Trumpists calling her a brainwashed RINO
