Print is dead, obviously. Let's reminisce about the out of print magazines we used to read.
I'll be obvious and start with Spy (as this thread was inspired by the most recent thread about Spy).

I miss Movieline. I read it cover to cover. Queenan's columns, blind items, bad movies we love. Why did it leave us?

Blender magazine became an American version of the British music magazine Q for awhile. They had a lot good writers and packed every issue with everything going on musically at that time. I had a subscription and looked forward to getting it.
They must have lost their funding because it dwindled to a third of what it used to be, all the colorful graphics turned to black-n-white, then it disappeared completely.

It still runs online.
Details. It's where I discovered Anderson Cooper who routinely wrote editorials for it. They went through a few reiterations before it finally folded, moving from lifestyle and fashion, briefly to a frat type mag like Maxim, then to just style and fashion.

Loved Movieline. As a kid growing up in a small town it fed my dreams. I also read Premiere. It was more industry based I felt. Seconded for EW too. Loved it but since going monthly its gone down hill

R36 I came here to mention "Exercise For Men Only". I know there's plenty of porn online, but I do still regret not ordering one of those bodybuilder "lifestyle" videos out of the back section. There was also a video with a plot that involved an all-male bachelor party weekend that I'd still love to see (though I'm sure it was just like any other porn film I can watch on Pornhub.

I’ll second the love for After Dark. It was the launching pad for so many gaylings in the 1970s and 80s. I spent hours jacking off to the gorgeous photos by Kenn Duncan.

Q Magazine just went defunct in July 2020. I had a stack of random issues going back to 1988 that I tossed when I moved last year. In the early 2000s it often came with a free compilation CD that was attached to the front cover. Some of them were quite good and I was introduced to a lot of artists through them.

Glad I saved all my old Spy magazines from the 80's and 90's. So pissed that I ditched all my After Darks years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | October 26, 2020 2:39 AM |
My favorite magazine was Manshots. Yes, it was gay porn, but more importantly, it was ABOUT gay porn. Great interviews, reviews of recent flicks, as well as classics from the past. I'm ashamed to say that the first thing I looked for when I got the magazine was the last page, which was an obituary of who died from AIDS that month.
For non-porn, does anyone remember "16" and Tiger Beat magazines? My sister lived for those rags when we were kids. It was all Davy Jones, Donny Osmond, Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy and for some inexplicable reason, no-talent actor Sajid Khan.
