Rezum for an enlarged Prostate: Who here has had this procedure?
My urologist told me today that I would be a great candidate to shrink the size of my prostate with this new procedure. Steam is used to shrink the prostate.
Sounds awfully painful but a lifetime of medications such as Flomax doesn't seem appealing either.
Anyone been through this, please let me know your experience. Thanks.

OP, that's how I clean the mildew off my siding.

Op why don’t you try out the home option first. I understand Bissel just added a urethral tip to its Steamshot cleaner.

I had it about a year and a half ago OP. I tried both drugs, Flomax and another one - and couldn't tolerate either of them. I passed out while on one of them (Flomax I think).
The other methods we discussed (TERP - yuck) didn't impress me much and though that and green laser methods were covered by Canadian National Healthcare Insurance (free), I would have had to wait a year to get it. Rezum meant no wait, but I paid for it out of pocket, but it's a tax deduction.
I was Propofoled for the procedure (thankfully), and had to wear a catheter for a week afterwards. Not as much fun as some would have you believe. ;-) I hear that some Drs suggest catheter for only a few days, but my Dr suggested he's had better results with the longer time frame.
Make sure you ask about dead tissue being expelled afterwards. They'll make it sound like its nothing visible to the naked eye, but after a week of feeling like something was blocking my stream shortly after I started, I finally managed to pass a CHUNK of dead tissue. I then went back in to have everything flushed again (again, large pieces he showed me on the video screen, which helped a great deal (uncomfortable as you can imagine though) since I wasn't put out for that.
The good thing is that for about 3-6 months afterwards, your stream continues to improve.
Would I do it again? Definitely. While I'm not writing my name in the snow, it doesn't take forever to pee anymore. I can't remember the numbers they use for "flow tests" but things improved substantially for me.
In fact I may have to have it again in a few years as your prostate still keeps enlarging.
Just out of curiosity, I'm assuming you're in the US. How much do they charge for the procedure? It may be covered by some insurance companies now. When I had it, it was still considered "experimental".

It cost a lot but it was cheaper than surgery.

R4. Thanks. I am in the US and my health plan covers this procedure. I will look out for chunks, although I am really hoping that doesn't happen.

Clean water as opposed to what?
Water you collect from a barrel from when it rains?

The steam breaks down, melts away, the prostate to a smaller size, almost to its normal size. The excess material is expelled through the urine.
