But it's totally impossible to look at Cruise in any timeline and find him attractive now because we know just how incredibly batshit crazy and repulsive he is.

Cesar Romero had a character actors face and was definitely a more handsome man when he was mature, but I think he looked smashing in his 20s, such as in Devil is a Woman. He wasn't a handsome young man but he was so sexy with that Iberian angularity. Usually only see it in North Africa, Iberia, and Latin America. Can sometimes sneak into Ireland or France.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 14, 2020 9:34 AM |
Many pretty boys look best when they are, in fact, young, 20s-30s, but sometimes they hit a sweet spot again right before they go completely to seed. Paul Rudd, Ben Affleck, Jude Law, Jonny Lee Miller, Hugh Grant (and it was a shock, blink and you missed it). Colin Farrell is a challenging one because he's actually young at 44 and shouldn't go completely to seed until his 50s but he's been dancing back and forth for a few years. You think he's gone to seed and a fatty and then the next year, nope, and then it's gone, and then it's back.
Paul Newman and Cary Grant looked great forever.

Robert Conrad in "The Wild, Wild West." He knew he was in amazing physical shape, so he made sure his pants were as tight as possible and that several episodes featured him shirtless. I always had wondered why the villains would routinely have him stripped to the waist when he was tied down for one reason or another. I read a story about his training regimen and he claimed he never lifted weights. He would run daily, do hundreds of sit-ups and hit the punching bag.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Marvin's Room. He was at the height of his beauty in this film, and he had his natural dark blonde/light brown hair color which looks best on him imo.
In Romeo + Juliet he looked like a child (which is funny because it was made a few months after MR), and in Titanic his skin was already starting to look sun damaged.

[quote]I don’t watch Tammy Cruise movies, however, I was watching Berlin‘s “take my breath away” video which includes clips of the movie.
Umm, if you "don't watch" his movies, and your comment about TOP GUN was based only on clips that are included in a music video, all the more reason why it's so weird for you to say that you were never "attracted" to him in any other movie. P.S. Referring to him as "Tammy" is a tired joke and no longer funny (if it ever was).
On another note: R80, thank you for that Ben Affleck image :-)

Chaplin was cute, r219, and he was truly a genius at moviemaking for a time. Did you know that he composed music too, and wrote the score for City Lights himself?
Too bad he was a pedophile. (Yes, yes, I know DL's resident NAMBLA trolls will come out and say that he was an "Ephebephile", but I won't split hairs here -- he was plain gross that way.)
by Anonymous | reply 221 | October 18, 2020 8:00 PM |
R221 - we cannot blame Chaplin for his attraction to younger partners. It wasn’t well known back then that pedophilia was wrong. People just did what felt natural, with no ill intentions.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | October 18, 2020 8:02 PM |
R222, he only married one of his wives to beat statutory rape charges. So, no, not everyone thought it was great for grown men to sleep with underage girls.
by Anonymous | reply 223 | October 18, 2020 8:29 PM |
Chaplin was an ephebophile, not a pedophile. He liked teenage girls. An important distinction, I think.

Maxwell Caulfield back in the day. A real babe.

by Anonymous | reply 227 | October 18, 2020 9:06 PM |
R227 - I get what you’re saying, but I think it’s much more acceptable to be attracted to a 17 year old than a 4 year old child.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | October 18, 2020 9:09 PM |
Nice ad hominem attack, R227, but my point still stands: Fucking teenagers is icky and actionable but not the horror that molesting five-year-olds is.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | October 18, 2020 9:16 PM |
There IS a difference between an ephebophile and a pedophile, hence why there are two distinct terms for the conditions. But virtue-signalers like R227 like to act like there is no difference. It makes the insults more dramatic and makes them feel even more woke. In reality, it just makes them sound like hysterical Karens.
by Anonymous | reply 230 | October 18, 2020 9:19 PM |
230 replies and not one mention of Barbra in "What's Up, Doc?" is just shameful.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | October 18, 2020 9:39 PM |
She did look great in that movie. And she got to bang Ryan O'Neill at his hottest. Must have been a fun shoot!
by Anonymous | reply 233 | October 18, 2020 9:47 PM |
Barbra was always better in comedy roles in dramatic ones. If she'd stuck with comedy in the late 70s and early 80s instead of doing all those heavy films, she'd have had more hits.
by Anonymous | reply 234 | October 18, 2020 9:47 PM |

Why are the people replying to R227 choosing to ignore what he actually wrote at R221?

Stallone was never my cup of tea. But I thought he had an appealing physicality in the first Rocky, in those shabby little rooms it was shot in, and his shabby hangdog face, it all worked. It was a good performance, too.

Guy Madison in “Since You Went Away, “ in the 1940s.

Tom Cruise peaked in Jerry Maguire IMO. The perfect blend of youth and maturity.

R242 I think that was his very first movie.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | October 19, 2020 4:46 AM |
As far as Keanu Reeves, I'm a big fan of his look in 1991, namely Point Break and My Own Private Idaho.
by Anonymous | reply 246 | October 19, 2020 4:51 AM |
With Brad Pitt, it's tough, because I think he looked other worldly in Thelma & Louise. In Fight Club he hit that youth/maturity point quite beautifully. But, then, in Troy, he ... I don't know what he did, but damn. He was 39/40 when he filmed this.

Jon-Eric Hexum at any point in his tragically short life.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | October 20, 2020 12:50 AM |
Thank you R251. I didn't even know he existed. I didn't know that story.
He got a degree in biomedical engineering, played football, and piano. He was very a-matter-of-fact about doing menial work to pay the bills. Gorgeous man. He was going to do Playgirl (with his clothes on).
I could see him doing roles in Hunt for Red October, Far From Heaven, and/or on E.R. (as George Cloonoey's role).
by Anonymous | reply 252 | October 20, 2020 1:22 AM |
Here he is with a buzz cut.
Also, he was an Olympic-style diver. Was there anything he couldn't do?
He also seemed to have a real business-mind towards the industry. He dropped the name Jerry Falwell with some degree of remove, so he may have been politically sound as well at the time.
Just tragic. And his name contained the word "hex."
by Anonymous | reply 253 | October 20, 2020 1:35 AM |

I have two for Charlie Hunnam. 1. when he was a young after his Queen As Folk days (he was 1000x hotter than the twink from the US version). He had long hair and was on Everwood or some WB show as the hot British extra. Pulling off long blond hair is no easy feat.

Kevin Costner in No Way Out.
Probably the moment I knew I was gay.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | December 27, 2020 8:44 PM |
2nd is when he stared in Green Street Hooligans. Everyone I show this movie to fall in love with him and his macho boy with a heart character. He has a short scene in just a towel that is just so damn sexy.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | December 27, 2020 8:45 PM |
Charlie Hunnam was also gorgeous in NICHOLAS NICKLEBY. I remember he had a brief shirtless scene in that. Of course, it was ridiculous in the sense that no one in those days would have had a body like that, but I REALLY did not mind the lack of verisimilitude :-)

I expect his memory will be kept alive for years by his many fans, whereas I imagine all memory of you will be gone the moment after you expire. Of course, I'm not 100 percent sure about that last part, so maybe you should drop dead and let us all find out :-)

Farley Granger in Strangers On A Train (1951). He was age 26 and beautiful.

Tom Neal in "Detour." He had the most beautiful wounded-looking eyes and kissable lips in this one.
In real life, the guy was a violent, alcoholic mess and ended up doing time for murdering his wife, but in this movie, he was sexy as hell.

Guy Madison in "'Till the End of Time." He was at the height of this beauty in this film. I couldn't take my eyes off him.

by Anonymous | reply 278 | January 3, 2021 3:02 PM |
With the disclaimer that I will forever despise him and that his soul is hideous no matter what; cockrock bassist Nikki Sixx had a small window of physical attractiveness in his early-mid thirties, ca. 1988-1993. I don't know why that was; maybe he just got sober and started working out or eating better, or maybe it was just Italian-mutt genes kicking in and helping him out, or maybe it was one of the clauses in his deal with TPTB.
He got the face and the body he deserved in the end, and that's what I hold on to. His reputation is also more or less tarnished. Shame he's still worth about a zillion dollars with a hotwife and tons of fans left, but hey, I guess life isn't fair.

Brad Pitt has aged worse than Ben Affleck.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | January 4, 2021 6:51 AM |
Beautiful people at their most beautiful is a wonderful thing. I think most of us go through a period, be it long or short, when we are considered attractive by a decent number of fellow humans - but the actually stunning among us, at their most stunning? Sometimes i wonder what it would be like to be that attractive.
Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty has the same luminous glow of youth, health and vitality that Tom Cruise does in that early shot from Top Gun posted upthread. It's like the beauty is projecting itself out of their pores. Aging is fascinating. Some people peak in their teens and are genuinely past it by 25. Others naturally age into a kind of mature beauty in their 30s or for the very very rare few, their 40s (that is extremely rare though, even in men). I find the people who age the best are round faced, chubby boys. the ones who look soft and dumpy in their teens. They often age like fine wine and can be found looking sexy af in their mid 30s. The early signs of aging actually compliment and masculinize that type. Lucky bastards (although I guess it sucks to be them as a teen).

by Anonymous | reply 295 | January 4, 2021 7:05 AM |
My opinion on Pitt is that Fight Club was his peak. As someone else mentioned about another actor, it was the moment of perfect balance between youth and maturity. Also best body he ever had. Keanu's body in the first Matrix film is, imo, the most perfect male body ever.

Since we're mentioning TC at his peak attractiveness, my vote is for "Rain Man" (1989).
This movie is a drama with a tear-jerker ending but, when I watch it, I can think only about traveling cross-country with him and all the things we would do...

R203, ABSOLUTELY. I recently purchased THE BIG TRAIL on Blu-Ray, and no joke, the young John Wayne is SO gorgeous in it that, every time the time he appears on screen, it almost takes my breath away. Watching that movie, it's easy to understand why he became a star in certain kinds of roles even though his acting ability was questionable, to say the least.

R292 ummm have you seen Ben Affleck lately. The man looks like a 55 year old cancer patient. And he's only 48. Brad Pitt has aged great compared to that guy. Hell, most people have aged great compared to Ben Affleck. His only saving grace is that he's skinny. But he's sliding down that hill FAST.

Brooke Shields in her “Endless Love” days.
She was 16 or 17 or something - and her presented as a sexualized figure when so young is always an uncomfortable issue in re: her early years. But she did seem to peak in her late teens.
