If those were carne asada, yes.

by Anonymousreply 1October 10, 2020 4:57 AM

That is not a good photo, but I am sort of jealous. I love tacos al pastor.

by Anonymousreply 2October 10, 2020 5:00 AM

R3 agreed. This photo looks better.

Isn't it basically shawarma?

by Anonymousreply 5October 10, 2020 5:08 AM

Actually I am jealous, OP. It's my go-to at a favorite Mexican restaurant that I haven't been to since pre-COVID days.

by Anonymousreply 6October 10, 2020 5:13 AM

R5, I think it tastes better than shawarma.

by Anonymousreply 7October 10, 2020 5:15 AM

Actually, yes. Fuck you! I hope you love them.

by Anonymousreply 8October 10, 2020 5:17 AM

You're about to get a bad case of Tacos el Farto

by Anonymousreply 9October 10, 2020 5:17 AM

What does al pastor mean?

by Anonymousreply 10October 10, 2020 5:20 AM

R10 Shepherd-style. Don't know why they're called that, but it's a type of spice-rubbed pork that was brought to Mexico by Lebanese immigrants.

by Anonymousreply 11October 10, 2020 5:23 AM
Isn't it basically shawarma?

Nothing against shawarma, which I like, but it doesn't have a delicious pineapple marinade.

by Anonymousreply 12October 10, 2020 5:23 AM

This quesadilla looks better.

So you think folks are gonna be jealous because you're eating food? If you were eating tacos at the same time that you were devouring a beautiful 7 1/2 inch penis perhaps! Otherwise, boring and we don't really care.

by Anonymousreply 14October 10, 2020 5:29 AM

Do you dine often with your preacher, OP?

by Anonymousreply 15October 10, 2020 6:10 AM

Yes OP

by Anonymousreply 16October 10, 2020 6:32 AM

Fish tacos are the best.

by Anonymousreply 17October 10, 2020 6:34 AM

I agree, but pastor is my favorite kind that doesn't involve seafood. A Honduran food truck a few blocks from me makes incredibly good ones.

I've tried lengua and cachete tacos and found them inferior to basic asada and pastor ones, though. Not sure why people from south of the Border set such store by those varieties—you're paying more money for less tasty food.

by Anonymousreply 18October 10, 2020 6:46 AM

Tripas tacos are good.

by Anonymousreply 19October 10, 2020 6:59 AM

I love seafood tacos and barbacoa tacos, in addition to al pastor. Not into lengua but my brother-in-law (gringo who grew up in Texas) thinks it's more tasty than basic asada, etc. I think it's a matter of what you're used to and have cultivated a taste for.

by Anonymousreply 20October 10, 2020 7:17 AM

OP's tacos look dry.

by Anonymousreply 21October 10, 2020 7:29 AM

I hope you don't have surprise anal later.

by Anonymousreply 22October 10, 2020 7:59 AM

Al-fonso pastor, por favor.

I just had chillidogs. A serious mistake.

by Anonymousreply 24October 10, 2020 9:53 AM

This thread inspired me to go get asada and lengua mulitas for lunch from a little Mexican cafe where I could watch someone's [italic]abuela[/italic] cook my food from the cashier's station. I regret nothing.

by Anonymousreply 25October 10, 2020 7:35 PM

I need to find a source here in Kansas CIty of such fare. I guess I could also learn to prepare my own.

by Anonymousreply 26October 10, 2020 7:37 PM

R25, that sounds really good actually.

by Anonymousreply 27October 10, 2020 8:02 PM

Looks delicious OP. I just made Tejano Carne Guisado last night. Don't laugh, as the recipe IS from a Karen.

There seems to be an extra amount of sauce, so I took some and added some cooked chickpeas, corn, and black olives, for another dish. Almost like a Mexican Chana Massala! I served with some raw onion and coriander leaves.

Is it supposed to have pineapple in it?
I served with some raw onion and coriander leaves.

Are you British? We call that CILANTRO.

by Anonymousreply 30October 10, 2020 10:39 PM

R29, I've seen them with chunks of pineapple in them.

by Anonymousreply 31October 10, 2020 10:56 PM

The OP CLEARLY has VILE doodies.

I eat only sugar water, unicorn dust, unicorn sugar, and unicorn icing!

Disgusteeng OP!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 32October 10, 2020 10:59 PM

R30 Bully for you then. You sound uptight there are "foreigners" here; how ironic on a taco thread. No tacos for you!

by Anonymousreply 33October 11, 2020 12:37 AM

Corn? When did I eat corn?

by Anonymousreply 34October 11, 2020 1:14 AM

The meat in OP's photo looks like bacon, which doesn't appeal to me.

by Anonymousreply 35October 11, 2020 1:18 AM

R24 has sold her ass to the devil.

by Anonymousreply 36October 11, 2020 1:40 AM

People always talk about dire gastric effects of eating Mexican food, but I've never encountered any. How much oil/grease is in the Mexican dishes you guys are eating?

by Anonymousreply 37October 11, 2020 6:59 AM

R30 Most people around the globe call it coriander. How did Americans come up with the word cilantro????

by Anonymousreply 38October 11, 2020 7:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 39October 11, 2020 7:05 AM

We call the seed/ground powder coriander. Only the plant is called cilantro.

by Anonymousreply 40October 11, 2020 2:33 PM

No one will ever be jealous of you, OP. Except for John List. It's rumored he was eating tacos al pastor shortly before his arrest.

You type low HDL and high LDL.

by Anonymousreply 42October 11, 2020 2:58 PM

R38 R39 It's the Spanish word, cilantro came into the U.S. through Mexican cuisine. We call cilantro seeds coriander.

I thought Brits enjoyed a little trash talk between countries?

by Anonymousreply 43October 11, 2020 4:11 PM

R26, surely Kansas City has some decent tacos?

by Anonymousreply 44October 11, 2020 4:29 PM

Who is this Al Pastor feller? Is he a gay? An instaho?

Help us, OP!

Is he cut or uncut?

by Anonymousreply 45October 11, 2020 4:36 PM

R3, I don't think those are al pastor, but they do look good.

by Anonymousreply 46October 11, 2020 4:37 PM

Is that tacos with a chopped-up priest in them?

by Anonymousreply 47October 11, 2020 5:08 PM

r47 Yes.

by Anonymousreply 48October 11, 2020 5:22 PM

Shepherds are ghetto so he's most likely uncut.

by Anonymousreply 49October 12, 2020 1:34 AM

OP inspired me to get some tonight.

by Anonymousreply 50October 12, 2020 7:50 PM

No lengua. No tongue. That's offal to me and don't do offal.

by Anonymousreply 51October 12, 2020 7:58 PM
I'm just about to eat some tacos al pastor!

Try the friar. Fried it's drier.

by Anonymousreply 52October 12, 2020 8:01 PM
Isn't it basically shawarma?

Same method, they use the spit to roast them, but they get to use the forbidden pork.

by Anonymousreply 53October 12, 2020 8:13 PM

Mmmmm. Love spit roasts.

by Anonymousreply 54October 12, 2020 8:31 PM

I don't object to trying the tongue (it's muscle meat after all, and the version I got was pretty finely chopped so there weren't any obvious texture differences from other beef varieties), but it didn't live up to other people's enthusiasm for it. Same with pork cheek, which I've also heard good things about.

Now tripe they can keep far, FAR away from where I'm eating. That's barely more palatable than chitlins in my book.

by Anonymousreply 55October 12, 2020 9:36 PM
Same with pork cheek, which I've also heard good things about.

R55, is that what cabeza tacos are? Whatever they are, they're quite good.

by Anonymousreply 56October 12, 2020 9:55 PM

Cabeza means melon or head, so I doubt it. The Honduran place where I tried them called them cachete tacos. They weren't bad, but the pastor blew them away.

by Anonymousreply 57October 12, 2020 10:05 PM
but the pastor blew them away.

Mine did that once too.

by Anonymousreply 58October 12, 2020 10:08 PM
Same with pork cheek, which I've also heard good things about.

Pork cheek in Italy is guanciale, which is very trendy.

by Anonymousreply 59October 12, 2020 10:24 PM

I’ll have the tongue tacos.

And don’t give me any lip!

by Anonymousreply 60October 12, 2020 10:29 PM

I’ll just have the tongue, thank you.

by Anonymousreply 61October 12, 2020 11:02 PM

R55, the last time I tried lengua tacos, I thought the meat had a somewhat gamy taste compared to beef and much stronger than pork.

Tongue is not limited to Mexican food. It used to be a staple in delis, back when real delis were common. My father liked it, but I never did. The name alone is bad enough, but having seen it in the deli counter, lying there, looking like a tongue, it's hard to get the image out of my head.

by Anonymousreply 62October 13, 2020 12:30 AM
Cabeza means melon or head, so I doubt it.

R57, thanks. I looked it up and cabeza refers to beef head -- which I don't know what fatty part of the head the meat is from -- but they're very good.

Is nobody else a fan of tripas? They taste better than they look.

R63 Fried, not soft, and they're amazing. Soft tripa has a weird bready texture.

by Anonymousreply 65October 13, 2020 2:19 AM

R65, yes. I like that iron-y, crisp flavor, but get that a lot of people are not too into this cut of meat.

by Anonymousreply 66October 13, 2020 2:41 AM

It's all about carne asada.
