When past presidents faced serious health crises, the WH would withhold certain information and try to downplay seriousness so as to not panic the public.
This is the first time in our history when we have an ill president and nearly 70% of the country is like "please just tell us when the fucker dies."

Don’t get your hopes up. #MoscowMitch would simply replace them with two other Repuke Senators. There is nothing that would stop him from doing that.
Now, if both of them were completely incapacitated and couldn’t vote that could put Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski on the hot seat because then Mitch might not have enough votes to move ahead with the vote to confirm — if Collins and Murkowski keep their word. A very big IF.

Biden should use the ad money for ads featuring him at the end of the debate and promoting masks.
"Strength means taking care of everybody."

R67 yes an ad showing Biden going over the coronavirus protocol would be quite smart

by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 3, 2020 3:59 AM |
There is a suggestion that ACB might have been the super spreader since she had the virus in the summer. People are theorizing that those who have recovered can still transmit the disease. Also, there were lots of smaller indoor gatherings during her introduction, not just the Rose Garden audience.

No shutting down. If McTurtle declares a recess, Trump can make a recess SCOTUS appointment right away.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 3, 2020 4:17 AM |
My instinct is telling me that Trump's condition is not mild, but he's rapidly gone downhill with the "minor symptoms" and is probably scared shitless. Trump isn't the kind of man who would willingly agree to go to a hospital out of "an abundance of caution, just to be on the safe side." We all know he'd much rather be at home.
Pity the fool at Walter Reed whose gotta change those big ass diapers.

And Secret Service agents are [italic]pissed off[/italic].
Trump seemed to defy the laws of science and disease. Then, the coronavirus caught up with him.
. . .
Now, dozens of people — donors, aides, Secret Service agents — who had been close to Trump before his diagnosis wondered if they, too, might be infected. A whole world, with Trump at its center, suddenly faced the threat that the president had encouraged them to deny or understate.
Secret Service agents expressed their anger and frustration to colleagues and friends Friday, saying that the president’s actions have repeatedly put them at risk. “He’s never cared about us,” one agent told a confidant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the internal reaction.
Former Secret Service agents said it was unheard of for agents to openly complain about their president but that some currently in the ranks had become convinced during the pandemic that Trump was willing to put his protectors in harm’s way.

“Dr. David Nace, a geriatrics expert at the University of Pittsburgh, said in an interview that people who don’t wear masks are exposed to higher concentrations of the virus, which can worsen the course of the disease.”

All of the poz WH people participated in debate prep, or what passed for it, with Trump. Hicks, Conway, Stepien, and Christie were all there. (I think Christie is being confirmed positive now.) We still have hope for Giuliani, Stephen Miller, and Jason Miller!

A doctor on CNN just said that Trump's infection timeline makes no sense judging by the symptoms he's showing. He's obviously known that he was sick for several days.
It's going to come out that he went to the debate knowing that he and the first lady were infected, which is why he intentionally showed up too late to be tested. He could have infected Biden and many others.

R168, unfortunately, he's not the only one among friends and family. We're in NY, so I know of seven people who've died from it early on. Fortunately, no one since June. And believe me when I tell you, they're not all over 70 and heavy, so this thing is very dangerous to everyone. I never go anywhere without a mask or gloves. You get used to it. I don't want to risk anyone's health and I would hope they wouldn't risk mine.
The thing about masks is that it's not just Trump supporters who ignore it. You do see tons of assholes of every race, religion, gender ignoring it. I really do hope NYC goes through with the threat of $1K fine for no mask.

by Anonymous | reply 190 | October 3, 2020 5:57 AM |
My dad was diabetic and obese. As a result, when he got an infection his organs failed and he died.
His doctor told me, heart, lungs and kidneys are all related. In the elderly, if one fails it’s too hard on the others and they can all fail at once.
Your heart has to have oxygen to work. So if it’s not getting enough, it’s working harder and harder, pumping to try to get more. That raises your blood pressure. If an elderly person who already has congestive heart failure (like Trump) gets COVID and then his lung capacity is damaged, his heart is working harder to try and compensate. He could have heart failure, which could also lead to kidney failure. COVID is not the same with elderly people with pre-existing conditions. It’s worse. It’s like the last nail in the coffin.
Just look at Trump. Probably high cholesterol, high blood pressure. Obese. Congestive heart failure. All of these contribute to what the COVID is doing and make it worse. How that guy can not be diabetic I don’t know. If he is, diabetics take longer to heal. Then he supposedly has had mini strokes. He must be on blood thinners, which help. But he must be at higher risk of stroke. And COVID is a vascular disease.
After watching what happened to my dad (which took two days), I’m wondering if Trump gets a bad case, could his organs just fail? My guess is he’s already being held together with duct tape and bailing wire. If you can’t get enough oxygen, every organ is slowly dying. He has no reserve. He’s been burning the candle at both ends forever.
Here’s what I’m thinking could happen. Let’s say Trump survives COVID but comes out with heart or lung damage. He’s fatigued. He’s lost lung capacity. How do you start four years more as POTUS when you’re hanging on by a thread, and the only chance you have to live is don’t strain your heart? A lot of times narcissists think the only two options are alive or dead. But there’s a third option, that he recovers as a visibly frail, weak invalid and doesn’t bounce back. Maybe he needs a pacemaker or kidney dialysis. What then? Will people vote for a frail invalid in a wheelchair, that looks like death warmed over? Will the RNC allow it when Pence is right there? Knowing he will likely have to resign or die in office after a short time?
Here is a perfect moment to have Pence pardon him and say he’s too frail to return. If he gets a bad case, people forget who old he is. A lot of times, seniors are going along okay, then they fall down or get in a car accident and they decline rapidly after that. They don’t bounce back. Then it turns out they had one foot in the grave all along and this is the other one.

Trump might not have corona at all. He might use it as a strategy to claim a speedy and complete recovery to show how "strong" he is / to show that corona is "just like the flu".
People are quick to mistrust whatever comes out of his mouth, or the White House. Why trust him now on this info coming out of his mouth?
Or, fearing a Biden win and subsequent prosecution, he might use corona to fake his death and flee.

I think the evidence is now mounting that they are not faking his COVID diagnosis. And probably the best proof we have is all the other people who were at the ACB event on Saturday who have now come down with virus. It has taken him a time to recover and he still doesn’t look the same as before. I'll bet the delay in getting Trump to WR was his insistence on walking to the helicopter when medical staff advised against it.
I agree with posters who think he's in worse condition than we're being told.
Also, the language used by his offspring and others, intended to make us view Trump as heroic, as a "warrior," is downright perverse.

Conservatism is so warped that unless he dies and/or one of them is personally affected by it, all recovery will “prove” is that it’s not so bad to catch (in other words, another example of us (with the good genes &/or God) vs them (those *other* people who wore masks before getting it and still died). These people don’t internalize risk until it personally effects them in some serious way. Conservatism has some evolutionary value but I think it’s largely a dead end in terms of where we are now.

We should all prepare for an onslaught of "publicity" and "spinning" of THEY ARE WARRIORS AND SURVIVORS and COVID IS NOT THAT BAD, WE SHOULD ALL GET INFECTED campaigns unleashed in about 2 weeks.

That's nothing to be proud of, you dingus. He's the Prime Minister and he was in denial about the virus the whole time, pushing himself too far, very likely giving himself complications. It was irresponsible.

What? People are still dying. Trump is in so many risk groups that it could very well be fatal for him, although he's probably getting the best treatment possible which might be the thing to save him.

Him surviving, but with visible weakness and long-term damage is the best possible outcome from a sane political point of view. His death before election day would win Pence sympathy votes, and keep Democratic voters home.
On the other hand, his emerging nearly unscathed would support his bullshit about how COVID isn't serious.
No, he needs to spend two weeks in the hospital, maybe being ventilated in one form or another, and come out in a wheelchair at the end of October.

Not sure why, but it just occurred to me that Trump must be in isolation and being treated by staff in hazmat suits, correct? Being treated like a virulent pariah? It’s what we see of other COVID patients being treated.
Or is it somehow different for him? I’m not sure I’m buying the “replica west wing” at Walter Reed story, with Trump taking meetings, etc.

You are probably correct r290. Hospitals are a totally different animal, once you walk in those doors you fallow THEIR rules. They dont take shit from people even powerful or rich ones. And according to my relatives nurses and doctors, the rich ones are the worst. They are used to demanding service "or else". Well "or else" means you can walk out the door for all they care. They are not begging for your sick ass, they are always overloaded with sick asses as it is, you are there for their help, so shut up and sit down and do what the doctor and nurses tell you.
To be honest, I think Trump will fall into line, he's really a pussy with other authority figures. But Don Jr. I could see bursting in there without a mask. They will put a stop to that. Trust me. The guards or police can have him removed. Wish I was a fly on the wall.

by Anonymous | reply 302 | October 3, 2020 12:59 PM |
All Presidents go to that same hospital because it's close. Rich people might get a private room or something like that, but they are not getting better service in terms of medical care. President is a little different because it's such an important job. So all doors open for him but still there are limits.
I work in Beverly Hills, by boss is very wealthy older drama queen. I have taken her to various hospitals several times. Trust me when I tell you she's just another patient in line behind a homeless person. At one point during a flu outbreak she was having issues and it tool 12 hours in the waiting room to see a doctor. And she is no shy about demanding shit. There are just too many wealthy people to elevate them like that, they would be overwhelmed in an area like Beverly Hills or any affluent city.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | October 3, 2020 1:00 PM |
In a hospital its not who has the most money or first come first serve. It's who is in the most extreme need of medical attention. Someone having chest pains is going to be treated before someone sitting there for 4 hours with a broken wrist or a high fever.

Besides, many Never-Trumpers talk about how the party has changed. Not just that the President is a fucking psycho. It's couched as a systemic problem.

Hospitals don't work like RETAIL stores. The staff don't give a fuck who you are. They work 10 hours shifts and have dozens of patients to see every day. They don't get a commission for selling more shoes.
And the vast majority of rich people are cheap and not busily actively donating to hospitals. Its only a handful of ultra rich that do that. Most of their money comes from insurance companies. A fucking colonoscopy can cost $10,000 these days. It's a 15 minute procedure.

I'm really unsure how Pence would work out as presidential candidate. His political career was floundering in IN in 2016, but that was a different time and place, and he had a different position.
Law enforcement agencies across the country have struggled with protecting their officers, who by the nature of their work, come in direct contact with people. Most of the Never Trumpers that I know are still Republican, but are just so disgusted by Donald Trump that they had no other choice but stop supporting the party as it is now. I have every reason to believe that Never Trumpers will return to their party once and/or if the party gets its act together again. Hell, they may have even returned if Trump had become a "normal' president.
As for Republicans like Mitch McConnell, there is no doubt in my mind that McConnell and the Senatrix can't stand Donald Trump either and think he's an idiot. McConnell clearly realizes that as long as Donald Trump is in office he (Turtle) can stack the courts with his people and get a lot of his crazy agenda through.
The Senatrix sees Trump's approval ratings among Republicans and made the decision to go all in because he didn't want to be primaried. I know the conspiracy theories want to paint a picture of Linds being blackmailed by either Trump or Russia, but it's clearly a numbers game. Ted Cruz, Little Marco and others -- the same thing.

Reading R328, I just don't know what's wrong with us any more.
Factor out her own distortions, you read that lawsuit and whatever the truth of it, that woman should be a liability, on a campaign, as a girlfriend, as anything other than a sad, aging freak show that gets a little media attention on the strength of two headed cow clickbait.
But they just brazen through. And they are allowed. Mitch McConnell... everything... everything feels out of control, basic decency is dead, normal doesn't exist, lying is OK, running your freak in public is fine... everything feels out of control to me. I don't know what's wrong with us. A quarter of the country doesn't mind, a quarter of the country shrugs, half the country should be in the streets... and nothing. I'm confused and uneasy and... this is a real fucking downer.

President Trump rested well through the night as doctors continue to monitor and evaluate him through the weekend to determine when he can return to the WH, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC. As of this am, POTUS still feeling fatigued but is doing work.
While Trump had experienced a shortness of breath after testing positive for the virus, sources tell ABC this morning he is not having difficulty breathing and described his breathing as normal.
The President is still not considering any transition of power to Vice President Mike Pence. However the president is worried, as coming down with the virus has spooked him and top aides.

instead of piling on more conspiracy theories, the repugs need to embrace a very simple concept : Cause and Effect

Effect : your hero's current condition and down the road, those who spent time with him.

But they have to be pretty blind not to see the most perfect case of poetic justice—or karma—or Nemesis—that we've ever witnessed: their unseemly and hypocritical haste to fill RBG's seat has resulted in condign (though belated) comeuppance for their pandemic crimes as well as, possibly, the very SC appointment. And it happened in the Rose Garden where the grim Melania uprooted a graceful Democratic legacy.
It's an ancient Greek tragedy.
It should not come as terribly surprising that a president who rose to fame — in business, on TV and in politics — on an archipelago of mistruths and exaggerations would find himself facing a public skeptical of his account of his own health, especially about a virus whose seriousness he has been dismissing for many months. If that doctor ever deigns to explain his timeline he's going to say that the Abbott quick test was the one 72 hours ago, but it's soooo prone to false positives that it's normal to consider someone negative until the PCR results came back. The way they lie, I'm calling it right now.
The two problems are, 1) the Abbott quick test has a problem with false negatives, not positives and 2) while PCR is needed for confirmation, a positive quick test is ALWAYS treated as a positive.

The cranky old codgers at the WSJ Editorial Board are literally urging Trump to hold FDR-like Fireside Chats from his hospital bed room and to display Reagan's sense of humor because "his strategy of attacking Mr. Biden and son Hunter personally isn’t working."
Mr. Trump will no doubt be frustrated that his campaign is confined to his personal residence or his office at Walter Reed hospital, but that may be an opportunity. Americans will be empathetic, and Mr. Trump can respond in kind. Ronald Reagan’s popularity soared after he was shot because he showed grace and cool under strain—“honey, I forgot to duck.” Rather than lash out at his critics, Mr. Trump can show optimism and fortitude and maybe even good humor in coping.
He could also use the time, and his virtual media appearances, to make a positive case for a second term. His strategy of attacking Mr. Biden and son Hunter personally isn’t working, so why not use fireside chats to frame the policy differences? He was headed for probable defeat before his new diagnosis, so he has little to lose by trying.

BBC are running with the confused messaging as a lead item:
White House has some explaining to do
Anthony Zurcher BBC North America reporter One would imagine the purpose of the White House medical team’s Saturday morning press conference was to reassure the public that the president is doing well and that the nation’s top medical experts are on top of the situation.
Instead, they created more confusion.
Sean Conley, the president’s physician, said Trump was diagnosed “72 hours ago” – which would be Wednesday morning. That’s before the president travelled to Minnesota for a campaign rally that night, before he flew to New Jersey for a fund-raiser on Thursday and more than 36 hours before the president revealed his coronavirus diagnosis to the world in a late-night tweet.
The timeline is further muddied by the revelation that the president was given an antiviral treatment sometime on Thursday – also before his announcement.
Conley tried to paint a positive picture of the president’s current medical condition, although he was evasive about whether Trump had ever been given oxygen to assist his breathing.
And then, just minutes after the press conference concluded, an official struck a very different tone, telling the gathered press “the president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care”.
The White House and the president’s medical team have some explaining to do. They have since said the physicians misspoke, but that is unlikely to put concerns to rest that the president may have knowingly put more people at risk by travelling when he knew he might have Covid-19.
In situations like this, trust is an invaluable commodity – and with every misstep or misdirection, it can be squandered.

Mark Meadows said it. He asked to be off the record. But he knew the quote would go out. He's just trying to keep everybody concerned and sympathetic. Not scrutinizing all the crap Trump has been doing. He will make Trump and COVID the story as long as he can.
I actually think the doctor was mostly telling the truth. (He was cult like though.) Trump is probably up and watching college football. They probably took his phone away from him. I think the antibody treatment really helped him.

This year's theme " I Should Listened " will feature wilted and dying Christmas Trees decorated with assorted colorful face masks, surgical gloves, and Pocket-Bac hand sanitizers from Bath & Body Works. Melania will christen the hallway the John and Jacqueline Kennedy Tree of Life Memorial Walkway.
Melania's sole purpose will be a most sincere effort to make reparations to the surviving members of the Kennedy and Bouvier Families.

Don't they put salad under steak sometimes in high-end places?
