Vanity Fair: “The Anti-Trump attack Ads Might Actually Be Helping Him"

As I long suspected, all those supposedly "anti Trump" threads that daily saturate Datalounge are Trumpers in disguise. Especially the "Lincoln Project" threads.

Maybe I overlooked it in the article but I didn't see anything about the recent income tax revelation. Although the article is recent and could be considered informative by some, it's somewhat dated based on events over the last several days: the reveal of income tax returns and infantile debate rage.

by Anonymousreply 1September 30, 2020 4:55 PM

The polls aren't showing this ...I'm not sure what effect they're having ..seems everyone is locked in

by Anonymousreply 2September 30, 2020 4:58 PM

Too recent, R1.

by Anonymousreply 3September 30, 2020 7:56 PM

I had to give up on the Lincoln Project when it clearly has the same energy as the cringey trolling Bloomberg did of Trump several months ago. Sorry, but only people who already hate Trump care that he cheats at golf or eats overcooked steak.

It makes sense that the Lincoln Project can't attack him on anything substantive. It's run by Republicans whose main objections to Trump are things popular with most Americans, such as isolationism. So they have nothing other than shitty dad jokes to fall back on.

by Anonymousreply 4September 30, 2020 8:17 PM

There is that little thing called COVID R4

by Anonymousreply 5September 30, 2020 8:29 PM

R4 is a deplorable

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2020 8:33 PM

Democrats should have learned last time that you have to campaign in favor of a coherent platform, not against a villain. Villains are useful but only as a foil to compare yourself to.

by Anonymousreply 7September 30, 2020 8:41 PM

..they might or they might not, insipid VF.

by Anonymousreply 8September 30, 2020 8:48 PM

Can't believe anyone who isn't paid to troll supports him.

by Anonymousreply 9September 30, 2020 8:51 PM

So, because of the volume of anti-trump ads, people are turning against Biden and running into the arms of Trump. If this is indeed true then they were never "getable" to begin with.

We need to gin up turnout with people who already get what's at stake - fuck the "undecideds" right in the coolito.

by Anonymousreply 10September 30, 2020 8:58 PM

He missed the point. TLP targets the ads at Trump directly to throw him and his team off plan, and it works. Or to get earned media value, and it works. Or to give conservatives permission to switch. There's a whole other campaign to position the candidate and uplift. Remember when journalists at Vanity Fair knew something about how advertising and media works and weren't just political cool kids in their own fucking bubble?

by Anonymousreply 11September 30, 2020 8:59 PM

Vanity Fair has become gutter trash.

This yet another example.

Stanning for Rachel Markle (to become president, no less) is the level that VF has devolved.

by Anonymousreply 12September 30, 2020 9:10 PM

Whatever you say, Boris @ r4.

by Anonymousreply 13September 30, 2020 9:15 PM

Democrats can and are campaigning against a villain as well as for a platform at the same time.

We can demonstrate ways to save the public health and economy while clobbering Shitler, too.

The problem with the Democrats is not fighting as tough as the Republicans and we're losing our democracy because of it. If the Democrats don't expand the Supreme Court next year, it's Gedtime for Democracy.

POLITICAL FACT: PEOPLE REMEMBER NEGATIVE ADS. NEGATIVE ADS MOVE VOTERS MORE THAN POSITIVE ADS:

Vanity Fair is run by deplorables and Russian spies. The anti-Trump ads are working and will continue to work because Biden will win and win by the biggest landslide in American history. No matter what we have to do to achieve that outcome, get it the fuck done.

by Anonymousreply 15September 30, 2020 9:31 PM

Step 1 of better campaigning can be to stop accusing a healthy percebtage of the population on being Russian spies. Jesus fucking Christ, it was asinine to begin with but we're years beyond it even being a relevant joke. You cunts are the biggest problem on DL. Muriel doesn't even care anymore.

by Anonymousreply 16September 30, 2020 9:47 PM

TLP ads are generally seen and shared by affluent people who are very into politics.

Their main goal is to troll Trump, not convince anyone to vote.

It's clearly a very different target than the Obama ad which could easily be a PSA aimed at middle schoolers.

by Anonymousreply 17September 30, 2020 9:54 PM

There is no empirical evidence to support the notion these ads are backfiring

by Anonymousreply 18September 30, 2020 10:21 PM

[quote] Their main goal is to troll Trump, not convince anyone to vote.

The article covered that point.

Well, there are at least 420 million reasons to think otherwise, Natasha.

by Anonymousreply 20September 30, 2020 11:18 PM

That was a good read. Thanks, OP.

by Anonymousreply 21September 30, 2020 11:34 PM

Vanity Fair, and all of Conde Nast, is uberwoke. "Russian trolls", my ass.

by Anonymousreply 22September 30, 2020 11:34 PM

It is not asinine. It is true. Literally all criticism not only of President Biden, but of any Democrat ever at any time in the parties history, is Russian trolling. Every single word of it.

by Anonymousreply 23October 1, 2020 12:12 AM

Complaining about wokeness is something Russian trolls and racists do.

by Anonymousreply 24October 1, 2020 12:13 AM

Troll thread!

WE HAVE THE WORST TROLLS IN THE FUCKING UNIVERSE. FUCK! I NEED SOME ENTERTAINMENT BUT NOOOOOO WE GET THE CHERNOBYL RESIDENTS.

by Anonymousreply 25October 1, 2020 12:15 AM

You would know, R25, since you are a Russian troll yourself. If you were not, then you would be working overtime to silence any and all criticism of mighty Joe Biden, who, as far as I’m concerned, is President of the United States right now.

by Anonymousreply 26October 1, 2020 12:17 AM

Who pays attention to Vanity Fair anymore?! It would be one thing if they were still doing Daryl Hannah covers stories, but they're not so to hell with them.

Reporters must be running out of election stuff to have hot takes about. Of course, investigating and actual news reporting would take work and doesn't get as many clicks.
