Was yesterday the designated day for 70s singing stars to pass away? Davis and Helen Reddy.

by Anonymousreply 1September 30, 2020 5:46 AM

Two 70s icons dead. Who will be next?

by Anonymousreply 2September 30, 2020 5:46 AM

Olivia Newton John, you in danger gurl!

by Anonymousreply 3September 30, 2020 5:48 AM

Baby, baby don't get hooked on me.

by Anonymousreply 4September 30, 2020 5:50 AM

Mac Davis. Handsome dude back in the day. Died at 78 years of age, same as the just deceased singer Helen Reddy.

the tight pants >>>> the music

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2020 5:55 AM

It's Hard To Be Humble, a novelty song, was his last big hit single.

In The Ghetto is a great song and still very relevant.

Here is a story he told about Elvis.

In OP's link, Steve Earle's son died at 38. Drugs, I assume.

by Anonymousreply 13September 30, 2020 6:18 AM

That was a few weeks ago, R13.

by Anonymousreply 14September 30, 2020 6:40 AM

Quien ??

by Anonymousreply 15September 30, 2020 6:43 AM

Wow. Helen Reddy and Mac Davis are '70s variety show stars with small talent and outsized promoters.

How could any of these two turds actually made money otherwise? Did Rene Angellil's little girl posse infiltrate?

by Anonymousreply 16September 30, 2020 6:48 AM

Woke.

Oh god I feel so old. He was a nice guy who wasn't full of himself. He was EVERYWHERE on TV at his peak. You name the talk show, he was probably on it that week, the next week, the week after... His variety show was cheesy fun that was kind of a time capsule for that part of the 70s. That he wrote one of the best songs EVAH "In the Ghetto" was enough for me.

I'm curious how much he was worth (those net worth sites are worse than useless). He had some serious songwriting credits. I'm sure he wasn't starving.

It is sad enough when people die. Well, most people. OK, some people. But to die during a procedure meant to prolong life, that is a slap in the face to his family. I'm sure he would have been none to pleased either.

Worth millions, and he couldn't do anything about the unibrow.

by Anonymousreply 25September 30, 2020 1:51 PM

Like Reddy he was omnipresent for about 15 minutes and then he was forgotten.

by Anonymousreply 26September 30, 2020 1:58 PM

I would have never thought Olivia Newton-John would outlast Reddy and Davis.

by Anonymousreply 27September 30, 2020 2:00 PM

He used to do a bit in his variety show -- audience members would throw out words and Mac would assemble them into a song, on the spot. As a kid, I thought that was so clever.

Apparently Helen Reddy's first single was written by Mac, how surreal that they'd both die on the same day

by Anonymousreply 33September 30, 2020 2:25 PM

I liked his episode of the Muppet Show.

Gay?

by Anonymousreply 37September 30, 2020 2:39 PM

I would watch his show just to see how many buttons on his shirt he would undo.

by Anonymousreply 38September 30, 2020 2:44 PM

North Dallas Forty was one of those movies that would play on HBO late at night. I would try to catch the locker room scenes after the rest of my family had gone to bed. RIP Mac.

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 40September 30, 2020 2:49 PM

Mac and Tom Jones were two of the guys where my early gaydar started to twitch around them.....due to those hairy, hairy chests.

by Anonymousreply 41September 30, 2020 2:54 PM

I had a crush when I was a kid...those curly locks and hairy chest.
