At 78 following heart surgery. So hot in North Dallas Forty
Was yesterday the designated day for 70s singing stars to pass away? Davis and Helen Reddy.

Two 70s icons dead. Who will be next?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 30, 2020 5:46 AM |
Olivia Newton John, you in danger gurl!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 30, 2020 5:48 AM |
Baby, baby don't get hooked on me.

Mac Davis. Handsome dude back in the day. Died at 78 years of age, same as the just deceased singer Helen Reddy.

the tight pants >>>> the music
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 30, 2020 5:55 AM |
It's Hard To Be Humble, a novelty song, was his last big hit single.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 30, 2020 5:57 AM |
R6 Don't know who this guy is but I love his tight pants.

In The Ghetto is a great song and still very relevant.
Here is a story he told about Elvis.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 30, 2020 6:03 AM |
I always think of this when I hear "In the Ghetto"
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 30, 2020 6:03 AM |
Thunder-stealing BASTARD!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 30, 2020 6:12 AM |
In OP's link, Steve Earle's son died at 38. Drugs, I assume.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 30, 2020 6:18 AM |
That was a few weeks ago, R13.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 30, 2020 6:40 AM |
Quien ??
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 30, 2020 6:43 AM |
Wow. Helen Reddy and Mac Davis are '70s variety show stars with small talent and outsized promoters.
How could any of these two turds actually made money otherwise? Did Rene Angellil's little girl posse infiltrate?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 30, 2020 6:48 AM |
Sadly, he played at Reagan's second inaugural gala, along with Donna Summer and Crystal Gayle.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 30, 2020 8:09 AM |
Tony Orlando & Dawn- you in danger, girls.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 30, 2020 8:14 AM |
Never heard of him. Guess his career was NOT international.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 30, 2020 8:18 AM |
Oh god I feel so old. He was a nice guy who wasn't full of himself. He was EVERYWHERE on TV at his peak. You name the talk show, he was probably on it that week, the next week, the week after... His variety show was cheesy fun that was kind of a time capsule for that part of the 70s. That he wrote one of the best songs EVAH "In the Ghetto" was enough for me.
I'm curious how much he was worth (those net worth sites are worse than useless). He had some serious songwriting credits. I'm sure he wasn't starving.
It is sad enough when people die. Well, most people. OK, some people. But to die during a procedure meant to prolong life, that is a slap in the face to his family. I'm sure he would have been none to pleased either.

Bump.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 30, 2020 12:10 PM |
Worth millions, and he couldn't do anything about the unibrow.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 30, 2020 1:51 PM |
Like Reddy he was omnipresent for about 15 minutes and then he was forgotten.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 30, 2020 1:58 PM |
I would have never thought Olivia Newton-John would outlast Reddy and Davis.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 30, 2020 2:00 PM |
He used to do a bit in his variety show -- audience members would throw out words and Mac would assemble them into a song, on the spot. As a kid, I thought that was so clever.

"Mac Davis. Handsome dude back in the day"
NO, Just no.

Well somebody had to replace me
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 30, 2020 2:23 PM |
Apparently Helen Reddy's first single was written by Mac, how surreal that they'd both die on the same day
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 30, 2020 2:25 PM |
so sorry, RIP
he single handedly turned me gay as a little kid, I've been obsessed with hairy chests every since seeing this
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 30, 2020 2:36 PM |
Gay?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 30, 2020 2:39 PM |
I would watch his show just to see how many buttons on his shirt he would undo.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 30, 2020 2:44 PM |
North Dallas Forty was one of those movies that would play on HBO late at night. I would try to catch the locker room scenes after the rest of my family had gone to bed. RIP Mac.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 30, 2020 2:49 PM |
Mac and Tom Jones were two of the guys where my early gaydar started to twitch around them.....due to those hairy, hairy chests.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 30, 2020 2:54 PM |
I had a crush when I was a kid...those curly locks and hairy chest.
