I had such a crush on him.
He's a very decent actor, and I wish he got more roles.
It can't be just because he's gay. Can it? If so, that really sucks.

So I have a fun story. Jacob Young was on B&B and he was rolling through WeHo. Chad Allen was actually his first guy. Jacob's agent was filling his head with stories of him being the next big thing so he bolted from B&B - the Story about Chad had gotten around and the show reached out to Chad to replace Jacob on the show but he declined - HIS agent says "he doesn't do soaps," ...no just Soap actors lol - all of this is alleged :D

You have to give him credit - he realized his career was pretty much over and instead of hanging on and totally embarrassing himself and turning sad and pathetic as so many former child actors do he let the business, got an education and started a whole new career. I am happy that Chad Allen has found happiness and good life outside of Hollywood. I know that, like many child actors, he got into drugs and drinking by the time he was on Dr. Quinn and to top it all off he was then forced out of the closet by the tabloids. I've always been curious as to why Allen was not in either of the two Dr. Quinn reunion movies back in the late 90s and early 00s. At the time, it was said that he wasn't available but I wonder if CBS (which was a 'family network' at that time) didn't invite him back because he was out.

R83 Yes, Chad and Jane Seymour still keep in touch. In fact, members of the Dr. Quinn cast did a zoom reunion back in June and Chad was part of it. By all accounts, Dr. Quinn was mostly a happy set. Although, allegedly Seymour did not get along with Gail Strickland who was a lead on the show during the first season but was replaced by Barbara Babcock in the second season. Also Erika Flores who played the original was fired from the show halfway through the show's run and replaced by another actress, but that apparently had to do with money.

R77 Yeah Hallmark has a syndication deal with CBS. However, CBS owns the rights to the show. Back in 2019, Seymour said there was some rumblings of a possible Dr. Quinn revival/reboot on CBS All Access.

by Anonymous | reply 101 | September 30, 2020 7:31 PM |
Then he should have gotten into a more credible program. Writing a dissertation about yourself is not what people do in an accredited clinical program.

by Anonymous | reply 103 | September 30, 2020 8:40 PM |
If Antioch's program is accredited by the APA -- which it is -- then it's credible enough.
He's got the academic background (foundation). The graduate degree simply allows him to practice (if that's what he intends to do).
I seriously doubt anyone in the hinterlands of Maine gives a fuck if he bought a more expensive piece of paper at Harvard or Yale.
It's up to individuals to make their own future and reputation.

by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 30, 2020 11:26 PM |
Antioch is a joke and APA accreditation no longer means what it once did. Writing some navel gazing bullshit is not a dissertation in any credible discipline. Even the humanities, which often set a low bar, esp. at jokey institutions expect more. The usual standard in psychology is some kind of original empirical work. Some recitation about the lessons of working on "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" or making bad movies based on crappy gay detective fiction---not really the same.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 30, 2020 11:45 PM |
Shut the hell up R108. Can't you just be happy for the guy?
by Anonymous | reply 109 | October 1, 2020 12:30 AM |
R99 Both Dr. Quinn movies were made on slim budgets. The first Dr. Quinn movie was a disappointment both in terms of ratings and the story. CBS interfered heavily with the first movie and wanted it to be more action oriented to try and draw in a younger audience. The whole reason Dr. Quinn was cancelled, despite it being one of the highest rated programs on CBS, was because it skewed towards an older demographic and didn't bring in the 18-35 years olds.
The second movie, while closer to the feel of the show, was made for even less money and filmed in Canada. In fact, the only reason the second movie got made apparently was because CBS had a two movie play or pay contract with Seymour that was about to expire. So the did the second movie. The second movie actually did well in the ratings but CBS was no longer interested in doing anything else with the show.

by Anonymous | reply 113 | October 1, 2020 2:36 AM |
R108 are you a shit stirrer or just poorly informed about clinical psychology tracks? He completed a PsyD, a degree with a clinical practice orientation that was developed under APA guidance in the early 1970s. The APA found that the existing PhD programs in clinical psych, which attempted yo develop expertise in both research and clinical practice, tended to do a shitty job in achieving either of those goals. The PsyD was developed to emphasize practice wirh individuals, families, and groups over research, though grounded in research evidence-based practices. The PhD emphasizes original research and publications much more heavily.
Given the shit career future that has been evolving in academics over the past couple decades, I’d say Chad found a way to pursue his career interest and achieved something worthwhile. Good for him.
Why don’t you post your CV here, R109, to show us your graduation from a top notch program, your dissertation and how it’s contributed to the betterment of the field and the world, your list of publications and conference presentations, and your awards. We will likely be so blown away it will excuse your arrogance and condescension.

The other thing is that people who are middle-aged (he's 46) who've already been working in their chosen field -- as he's been doing for the last 7 years -- usually don't go back to college for an advanced degree in order to impress academicians with some Ivy League pedigree. Instead, it's usually done for practical reasons related to career development/progression. For that reason alone, opting to attend a local, accredited college like Antioch is fine. He completed his goal, and it looks like he just started a new job where he can put that PsyD to good use. Congrats.

Chad Allen was definitely one of my first teenage crushes. He (and Joe Lando to a lesser extent) was the only reason I'd watch Dr Quinn with my grandma.

R135: Um, I'm Italian-American myself and I'm told I'm not white but Mediterranean. I'm ok with that as I have all the traits, the hazel eyes, curly/wavy hair, hairy body you know. So what if I had dirty blond hair. And my ancestry has a whole lot more interesting items in it, like North African, Ashkenazi Jewish etc.

It's funny how white supremacists love to argue that the white race is superior and will cite Ancient Greece and Rome as examples of their race's achievements. Yet at the same time don't consider Italians and Greeks to be white because they are Mediterranean. They portray the Bible and Christianity as a civilized Western religion despite the fact it is a Middle Eastern religion and the stories of the Bible mostly set in the Middle East and North Africa. Yet Jews aren't white to them except if they are Jesus, Joseph and Mary.
All of this proves there is no such thing as "white people". We are just people, some have more pigment than others and some have less pigment than others.

Americans have this bizarre notion that white people with dark hair and eyes aren't really white. It's truly strange.

What’s Chad’s literal skin color (not his race or ethnicity)?

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
