I'm Watching The Old 'Dark Shadows" Series On Pluto TV.

They have their own channel now.

Lord have mercy I had forgotten just how bad the acting was and I'm ashamed that I loved that show so much during its initial run. I would race home from school every day so I wouldn't miss it. I've lost count how many times the actors on each episode fuck up their lines. It was shown live if I remember correctly. Big mistake.

And I'm reminded of the camera screw ups from all those decades ago. The day just as they were going to commercial the camera zoomed in on the 2 puncture wounds on an actress's neck after she'd been bitten by Barnabas, and one of the glued on punctures dropped off. A makeup artist probably got fired that day. And the day they were running the closing credits with the main entry hall in the Collins mansion as the backdrop and Jonathan Frid walks across the room in camera view in his street clothes carrying what looked like his costume from the show.

And don't get me started on rampant homosexualist Louis Edmonds' fake upper class (somewhat British) accent. He was from Baton Rouge for Christ sake.

Do you think Edmonds & Frid were doing it? I do. Homos, the both of them.

Say what you want Dark Shadows was revolutionary for it's time - a serial vampire soap opera that gave zero fucks.

It was quite awful. I've been thinking—for fuck knows what reason—of the tavern scenes. I'm tempted to give it another go.

The very fanciest American accent I have ever heard was from a curator from St. Louis who was taught it at some posh school for those parts and said he couldn't shed it despite having tried because it caused him a bit of grief everywhere.
