MEN'S WORKOUT Magazine

Did you know about this magazine when it was being published? Did you subscribe? Was it popular back in the day? Did guys actually think it was a fitness magazine like Men's Health?

The photos are HOT AF.

One of the more popular models, Joe Reitano, also modeled for Colt.

Wasn't it proven that these fitness/bodybuilding magazines were just jerk off material for gay men without outing themselves?

by Anonymousreply 4August 26, 2020 5:13 PM

Swoon!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 5August 26, 2020 5:14 PM

The late Greg Plitt was often a model, including on many (?) covers.

Blond Orange Count fundie model/photograph Jason Ellis did a lot of the photography.

Yes it was decided by the Supreme Court, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 8August 26, 2020 5:18 PM

The late David Kimmerle often modeled for Men's Workout, including at OP.

by Anonymousreply 9August 26, 2020 5:20 PM

David Kimmerle and Jason Ellis were good friends, I think.

This magazine was notorious for including many gay porn stars. Their photoshoots tended to be sluttier than the other workout mags, and they also reused photos from the same shoot for years and years and years.

by Anonymousreply 11August 26, 2020 5:23 PM

Yeah I mean most fitness mags don't oil up the guys' chests quite so much.

by Anonymousreply 12August 26, 2020 5:25 PM

Joe Reitano also did porn as Dino Dimarco. Very hot.

R11, did you like the magazine when it was out? Did people ever talk about it?

Exercise for Men Only looks super hot as well. Glossy abs.

When I was 17 in High School my "straight" boss was a body builder and he would have these magazines sitting on his desk. They were super pornographic. There were some real low rent mags out there. In one, you could see scrotum skin peeking out; the speedos were see thru; the posing was super homoerotic. I loved them. I would sit there and get hard looking at them. My boss noticed that the magazine's made me hard and we quickly developed a sexually inappropriate relationship. He suddenly fired me when he discovered I was in High School. I never believed that he didn't know I was in High School. I looked like I was a 14 year old Alter boy!

by Anonymousreply 16August 26, 2020 5:42 PM

Who's this model?

I did a bunch of scans of Men's Workout years ago.. I'll see if I still have them somewhere on my hard drives...

by Anonymousreply 18August 26, 2020 5:52 PM

TJ Hoban was on a lot of covers. R18, too cool. Mind sharing them please? Fuck... so hot. My loins are feeling like I need to hump something lol.

R17 That looks like Sean Harley. He became way way more muscular later on.

by Anonymousreply 20August 26, 2020 5:58 PM

Thanks, R20

by Anonymousreply 21August 26, 2020 6:12 PM

"The late Greg Plitt was often a model,..."

"The late David Kimmerle......"

If fitness is supposed to be so go for you, why are these two dead?

by Anonymousreply 22August 26, 2020 6:22 PM

R22, Plitt died because he was run over by a train. Though he was shooting a supplement promo at the time.

by Anonymousreply 23August 26, 2020 6:40 PM

MEN'S WHACKOFF Magazine... Straight guys wouldn't be caught dead "reading" it. EVERYBODY knew what it really was. They didnt try to hide it.

by Anonymousreply 24August 26, 2020 6:48 PM

Especially with ads like these in the back, R24.

It might do well today, given all the repressed bros who are into working out and looking at hot guys' abs.

by Anonymousreply 26August 26, 2020 6:53 PM

Enjoy.

R27, WOW! Thank you so much!

by Anonymousreply 28August 26, 2020 7:10 PM

R27, so meticulous. Did you accumulate a lot of copies over the years, and just scan the best of them before tossing them? Or did you buy a bunch, scan them, and keep them?

by Anonymousreply 29August 26, 2020 7:11 PM

I know someone who used to live in the US and wrote for as he put it "Men's Wealth and Fiction".

by Anonymousreply 30August 26, 2020 7:11 PM

Wow, who is the Adonis in OP's pic?

by Anonymousreply 31August 26, 2020 7:35 PM

R31, David Kimmerle. Died this year?

Very thinly veiled closet porno. Should be on the same shelf as "After Dark" Magazine.

Soft core porn for sure, just like the fitness models on YouTube (and Only Fans) today.

This looks like a Rick Day photo, with the Under Armour wristband.

This gave my flashbacks of buying one and being questioned about which exercises by the Indian man behind the counter. šŸ˜³

I'd probably just tell him it was for wanking now.

by Anonymousreply 38August 26, 2020 8:16 PM

The images are hotter to me than most porn. They're so heavily edited as to look perfect.

My dad (!) bought a bunch of these in the 80s when he was dieting and trying to get in shape. This was before Menā€™s Health existed so I guess it was the only way to get workout tips. I actually used some of the weight-lifting routines in them.

by Anonymousreply 46August 26, 2020 8:45 PM

Was Gym trashy also?

by Anonymousreply 47August 26, 2020 9:00 PM

I worked in a bookstore back in the day, and although I was naive about so many things, it was obvious to me that the men buying the magazines weren't looking for a workout, unless you counted their wrists.

by Anonymousreply 48August 26, 2020 11:40 PM

r13 The only Dino DiMarco I know in gay porn looks nothing like the guy at R2.

by Anonymousreply 54August 27, 2020 12:59 AM

i believe the 3 biggest magazines that were in competition with each other were "men's workout" "exercise for men only" and " men's exercise"

men's workout i think was the most homoerotic because the other 2 magazines actually had workouts and nutrition tips as well as skincare products and info...

i always liked the issues of men's workout that were "theme" issues... military! male stripper groups! and so on..

the recently defunct "REPS" magazine was pretty good as well, not as homoerotic but they did show the hottest most successful fitness/physique models and in sexy layouts along with workout instructions/routines....

by Anonymousreply 55August 27, 2020 1:12 AM

r52 = Tammy Cruise

by Anonymousreply 56August 27, 2020 6:36 AM

R13, that's not Joe Reitano, but here he is as Anthony Capriati doing some cheesy 'straight' porn where he gets his butthole played with:

I know that the extremely HOTT Mr. Boogedy did a steamy photo shoot for this "MAG". You should check out the behind-the-scenes "VID" for that photo shoot.

Woooo-weeeee! Stick a fork in me! I'm done!

Exercise For Men Only was the most obviously gay oriented one.

by Anonymousreply 59August 30, 2020 2:15 AM

Nothing is as gay as Men's Fitness
