I agree. It was great then.
I even took a photo once.

I want to go to Burger Chef so Jan Brady can make me a fucking burger!

McGonad's is my kind of place
Big dicks right in your face
Big balls ensconced in lace
Hot hunks of every race
McGonad's is my kind of place,
Get way past second base
McGonad's is my kind of place!

OP Should just visit some of the Spanish and Italian McDonald's, they haven't been renovated since the early 1980's.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 25, 2020 10:17 PM |
Will they be serving their old recipe milkshakes? If so, I'll go.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 25, 2020 10:18 PM |
No, OP, I wouldn't go. I have a lifelong aversion to McDonalds. When I was a kid, it was mere dislike of the food. Over the decades, there have accrued lots more significant reasons to boycott McDonalds.
The only fast food franchise I inflexibly hate worse than McDonalds is Chick-fil-A.

Nothing beats a classic Pizza Hut. They’re still out there, but fewer every day.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 25, 2020 10:24 PM |
R13 Don't know about the milkshakes, but they do sell beer in Europe.

I remember going to McDonald's in Geneva in the early 80s and it was SO good. The standards and superior quality of the the ingredients was remarkable.

I'd like to go somewhere more charming, like an intact Howard Johnsons, or the kind of drive-in restaurant where you parked and ordered through a little speaker and the waitress brought food on a tray that hangs out the window. No roller skates required. That whole style of food service is so covid friendly! I'd love to go to a drive in that could bring me lovely cold oysters and a crab sandwich and a salad. Gaaaaaah.

When I was a budding young Fat Whorette, I loved Burger King's Yumbo sandwich. They brought it back for a limited time a few years ago, but it wasn't the same.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 25, 2020 10:38 PM |
I agree, R21. Someone should do it. NOW.

R6, was that the Burger King in Times Square?

They were so thick it was impossible to suck them thru a straw. But I wasn't American, there was probably a knack.
[quote][R6], was that the Burger King in Times Square?
No, 59th between Madison & Park. Funny that you knew it was NYC.
I took it in 1977.
So funny, I have an album of that trip to America and we seemed to take so many fucking photos of us eating in fast food places. They were such a novelty to us English in those days.

McDonald's "food" is so gross - how they can call themselves a hamburger restaurant is beyond me. They should be ashamed of themselves and I wonder if they will ever figure it out?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 25, 2020 11:26 PM |
How are they any different now? Granted I haven't been to one of many years but isn't this essentially how they still look?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 26, 2020 12:19 AM |
They actually have tried bringing back old-style McDonalds' in select areas.

The DL favourite 'Ordinary People' has a great scene in a 1980-ish McDonald's. Very much more the IHOP/international decorating scheme. I love the 1974 one, OP!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 26, 2020 1:07 AM |
R37 here again...I missed the obligatory, "Buck would never take a date to McDonald's" jab.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 26, 2020 1:09 AM |
Fine! Go back if you must, but you'll never get to eat in a mouldy McDonalds DC-3 when you're stuck in 1974.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 26, 2020 1:21 AM |
I preferred Gino's in 1974 because of the Gino Giant

Please post it, R29! Love seeing those '70s flashbacks, especially in NYC.
