Love this movie I first saw it when I was 12 and was hooked

The black and white shoes. Shudder.

Watch this and "Mommie Dearest" and you'll have the flavor of my childhood.

Are you a Louise or a June?

Sing Out Louise!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 23, 2020 12:32 AM |
I’m definitely a Louise.

Is it true that Roz Russell and Natalie Wood hated each other during filming?
Strange, because I could never tell. They acted like they really cared about each other. I guess Natalie wasn't such a bad actress, after all.

That part with Miss Mazeppa is my favorite part of the movie.
She had such a strong voice!!
Honestly, I thought that she would die before Tessie and Electra, because her voice sounded like she was a heavy smoker.
Turns out, she lived longer than pretty much everyone in the movie, besides Karl Malden.
The Mazeppa actress Faith Dane just passed away THIS YEAR at the age of 96!!!!

Every time I’m trying to convince a friend of family member to watch Gypsy I show them that scene r10 and it always works.

"Gimmick" always plays well with audiences. I think the hardest scene to sell is the opening scene, witht the the reference to the balloon girl's older sister and said sister's tits.

That musical number at R10 always gives me the chills.
It's so well written and so well done. The music is so entertaining.
Probably one of the best numbers in the history of American musicals.

It's flawless. I've seen it done live and even in a little dingy local production that number always brings down the house.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 23, 2020 4:34 AM |
It's starting in 15 minutes!

Saw this movie at a friend's house on TV and wasn't at all impressed - seemed like an old dinosaur left over from another era. Even the friend, a real show business person, said that the film was silly. Rosalind Russell overacts and Natalie Wood underacts. You haven't lived until you see the chorus girl wearing glowing Christmas lights. What a howl! Not a fan, needless to say.

Um, that's kind of the point of the movie.
That's exactly what Rose was supposed to be. "Born too soon, and started too late."
Never mind. The movie is lost on you.

The movie is 80 years old, it has no point. And they couldn't sing. Cynthia Gibb was much better in this role and Tulsa had a better ASS in 1993 too.

You have no point. Are you 80 years old as well?

Yea R22. I got a point gramps. And it still points north. And stays hard. BIG too.
This version is much better, in every way.

Ugh. You're the queen who haunts the drag queen threads and makes threats to the "old white gay gramps."
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 23, 2020 5:46 AM |
Huh? Why would I threaten dead men? No need old dude. Go back to the garden nana.

I never realized that both Ann Jillian and Morgan Brittany were in this movie, and they both played June (but at different ages).

Secretary: "New York is the center of everything!"
Rose: "New York is the center of New York."
Haha. The one-liners in this movie are really great.

I usually tune out after Madame Rose's final number.

"I'm a pretty girl, Mama!"
Is this where the line came form in American Horror Story, when Constance Langdon dressed up Addie for Halloween, and Addie said, "I'm a pretty girl!'

Only absolutely dire trash would think so.

I know someone who played Tessie Tura (in a smallish regional theater production) and got in trouble because one night she sang "is so much more demure-a.....than all those other BITCHES because....."
Lesson learned: never joke around in rehearsal, because that shit crawls into your brain and comes out at inopportune times.

Oh, please. She was trying to get an extra laugh.

R35 She was performing for an audience of Olds, that was not the audience to try it on!
