by Anonymousreply 75August 25, 2020 8:48 PM

I just just watched him in the film The Assisi Underground RIP

by Anonymousreply 1August 18, 2020 7:17 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 2August 18, 2020 7:17 PM

He was an Englishman.

by Anonymousreply 3August 18, 2020 7:18 PM

He had a hot ass but he couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 4August 18, 2020 7:18 PM

So young.

by Anonymousreply 5August 18, 2020 7:19 PM

Wow! He's young. He was in Chariots of Fire, an Oscar winning film, you dolts. He was quite lovely actually.

by Anonymousreply 6August 18, 2020 7:20 PM

BTW, how young was he? I felt it right to say, but the reception up here is terrible.

by Anonymousreply 7August 18, 2020 7:20 PM
R3 He was an Englishman.

Well, we know what that means.

Uggh.

by Anonymousreply 8August 18, 2020 7:21 PM

He starred in [italic]Chariots of Fire[/italic]. The blond guy is Nigel Havers. Cross was handsome and talented.

Read he was 72 and died in Vienna, after a short illness.

I'd like to die somewhere elegant, like Vienna or Paris. Not like Waco or Sarasota.

by Anonymousreply 10August 18, 2020 7:32 PM

Fucking loved him. Hot man.

by Anonymousreply 11August 18, 2020 7:36 PM

He should have had a much bigger career. Handsome and a very good actor.

I wonder why he didn't.

by Anonymousreply 12August 18, 2020 7:39 PM

Nigel Havers was cute too R9. Neither he nor Cross had big movie careers. Theater perhaps? Havers did a lot on TV.

by Anonymousreply 13August 18, 2020 7:41 PM

I stared at his crotch all through Chariots of Fire when I was a kid. Ah memories....

by Anonymousreply 14August 18, 2020 7:46 PM

Sarek II.

by Anonymousreply 15August 18, 2020 7:47 PM

Yes, R10, I would like to exit with Orson Welles filming it with lighting by James Wong Howe and music by Eric Wolfgang Korngold.

by Anonymousreply 16August 18, 2020 7:47 PM

Ah, Korngold.

by Anonymousreply 17August 18, 2020 7:47 PM

Very sad. I remember him not only in Chariots but in Dark Shadows, the 90s series.

by Anonymousreply 18August 18, 2020 7:49 PM

He was beautiful and just perfect for his role in CHARIOTS. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 19August 18, 2020 8:05 PM

he was so hot in Chariots. I was 8 when it came out and my mom took me to see it. I was so mesmerized by him. He became a total type for me - I'm obsessed with tall patrician English guys.

by Anonymousreply 20August 18, 2020 8:13 PM
Wow! He's young.

72? He is just a baby!

by Anonymousreply 21August 18, 2020 8:15 PM

Oh no :(

by Anonymousreply 22August 18, 2020 8:18 PM

Oh no. I remember him as Barnabas in the 1991 Dark Shadows. It was cancelled way too soon. I loved him in that role. It is sad to hear about his death.

by Anonymousreply 23August 18, 2020 8:37 PM

72 is young to die these days, R21. Many people make it into their 80s and 90s now.

He isn't really dead, though. He's a vampire, after all.

Okay I take it back. He wasn't young. He was 72. My how time flies.

by Anonymousreply 26August 18, 2020 8:48 PM

If he was 72, that must mean I'm ...

by Anonymousreply 27August 18, 2020 8:59 PM

Ian Charleson was the other lead in Chariots of Fire. He died of AIDS

you must have had a very vivid imagination R20, the whole point of the movie was that his character was Jewish and an "outsider"

and Cross himself was neither patrician nor Engilish

Cross was born Harry Bernard Cross, in London, to a working class Catholic family, with Irish ancestry.[1][2][3] His mother was a cleaning woman and his father a doorman and nurse.

by Anonymousreply 29August 18, 2020 9:11 PM

He was so sexy as Barnabas in the Dark Shadows revival. As I recall, the series got caught with scheduling pre-emptions due to the Gulf War and writers strike issues.

by Anonymousreply 31August 18, 2020 9:32 PM

OMG. I knew him. He was lovely. I worked on a project he was in a long time ago in Bulgaria. He was very friendly and very down to earth . He said something super nice to me, which still ranks in the top 5 best compliments I ever received, after all these years. R. I. P. Ben, you were a gentleman.

by Anonymousreply 32August 18, 2020 9:32 PM

r32 Did he compliment your sphinctral grip strength?

Ben Cross ruined Chariots of Fire

by Anonymousreply 36August 18, 2020 9:40 PM

R16 Do you want the cinematography in colour or black and white?

by Anonymousreply 37August 18, 2020 9:40 PM

Nice picture, R34. He has a lantern jaw, but seems like an affable fellow.

by Anonymousreply 38August 18, 2020 9:45 PM

I still feel like someone big is going to sicken and die this year. Maybe Hollywood type or some other type...I know who I'd like it to be, but hey...

by Anonymousreply 39August 18, 2020 9:46 PM

How big R39?

by Anonymousreply 40August 18, 2020 9:48 PM

oh cut me a break - i was 8 and living in New Jersey. Any English accent sounded posh to me.

by Anonymousreply 41August 18, 2020 9:54 PM

R41 he was not very tall either.

by Anonymousreply 42August 18, 2020 9:57 PM

R45 this is WORD for WORD, what he said to me. How did you know ???

by Anonymousreply 46August 18, 2020 10:07 PM

Regardless of how lower-class or Catholic Ben Cross may have started out, he succeeded in making me want to suck Harold Abrahams' delightfully Jewish schlong every time I saw Chariots of Fire.

Thank goodness there were no full frontal scenes!

by Anonymousreply 48August 18, 2020 10:17 PM

by Anonymousreply 49August 18, 2020 10:21 PM

Say WHAT, R48???

by Anonymousreply 50August 18, 2020 10:23 PM

"Ben Cross ruined Chariots of Fire"

You're just going to drop this in the comments and not even explain WHY you think it's so?

by Anonymousreply 51August 18, 2020 10:38 PM

r50 It would've been difficult for a likely uncircumcised Cross to play a Jew if frontal nudity were required.

by Anonymousreply 52August 19, 2020 1:51 AM

Ohhhhhhh...yeah, r52. Those days, I didn't think about circumcision or uncircumcision. Good point.

by Anonymousreply 53August 19, 2020 2:59 AM

I remember him well as Barnabas Collins in the revival series of Dark Shadows. It put him in the spotlight and he got a lot of publicity. Shortly afterwards I remember seeing him in a horror movie at the theater but I've forgotten the name of the film.

Hee was a bore and had no charisma.

by Anonymousreply 58August 19, 2020 5:32 AM

R52 Stunt penis!

by Anonymousreply 59August 19, 2020 7:41 AM

I get you, r10. I've always thought I'd like to die in Venice.

by Anonymousreply 60August 19, 2020 1:04 PM
I'd like to die somewhere elegant, like Vienna or Paris. Not like Waco or Sarasota.

by Anonymousreply 63August 19, 2020 1:39 PM

I had a massive crush on Ben Cross, a very beautiful man with strong features. A little bit of trivia, Ben went through grueling workouts to get in shape for “Chariots of Fire”. I always get chills at the beginning of the film when they show the runners at the beach.

by Anonymousreply 64August 20, 2020 2:42 AM
The blond guy is Nigel Havers. Cross was handsome and talented.

I thought Nigel Havers had a beautiful smile, very cute blonde man.

by Anonymousreply 65August 20, 2020 2:45 AM

So many cute actors where in Chariots of Fire, including the late Brad Davis and Dennis Christopher.

by Anonymousreply 66August 20, 2020 2:56 AM

Another one of his "Chariots" co-stars died recently (June 19) too.

by Anonymousreply 69August 20, 2020 5:43 AM

Cross also played the villain in the King Arthur movie, "First Knight" (1995) opposite Sean Connery & Richard Gere:
