He is cute, when is he on?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 16, 2020 1:20 AM |
Is this the new MSNBC: Homeschool Edition?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 16, 2020 1:38 AM |
Gary looks like he's 12.
There is only room for ONE NewsTwink, and it is me!
Go ask Andrea!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 16, 2020 2:37 AM |
Is Vaughn about to do the news equivalent of transitioning from Helix Studios to Treasure Island Media?
Is his news hole too used up and blown out to excite MSNBC viewers?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 16, 2020 2:41 AM |
Gary's ears are a problem.
There's a newish plastic surgery procedure called macrotia surgery that can reduce ear size, not just pin them back, which is all they could do in the past (otoplasty).
He might want to look into that.

Somebody in the old thread said they never seen Haake anchoring. I had the privilege to catch him substitute for Joy one Saturday morning and he looked sexy as ever without the mask. This was before The Reid Out was announced. He's a correspondent but, I love staring at him all day. Let's give him a live hour, fuck Chuck Todd, give Nicolle MTP on Sundays....did I miss anything??
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 16, 2020 3:07 AM |
In case you all didn't know David Gura is hung massively. I mean the thing exists in its on zip code. At Cornell he was called "tube".
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 16, 2020 3:15 AM |
What are your sources of this information, R12?
Or are you David Gura, drunk, blond, and fiddling on his roof while eyeballing Google Alerts?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 16, 2020 3:20 AM |
I went to Williams, he went to Cornell. My roommate was best friends with him and he would visit from time to time. Fun guy, always had good weed.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 16, 2020 3:27 AM |
He looks like he still smokes weed, R14!
But who gossiped about his dick? Men? Women?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 16, 2020 3:39 AM |
If that’s your description of adorable, I’d hate to see what your description of cute looks like. He looks like he’s on his way to Sunday School. Throw this one back and try again!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 16, 2020 3:40 AM |
R15, my roommate had a bunch of high school friends visit (girls and guys) and someone brought up his "tube" nickname. So I asked and that's how I found out. Then later on that semester a girl that hung out with us blew him and she gave me details.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 16, 2020 3:45 AM |

He also has a very pleasant personality.
Why doesn't he anchor more often?
I hope Hillary remarks on how Mika was part of the but her emails crowd, and she and Joe licked Trump's boots during the campaign. Yes, I am still holding a grudge against Joe and Mika for their past Trump support.
I'd like to add that she should also call Mika out on completely TRASHING Joe Biden over the Tara Reade allegations, only to have Tara Reade completely discredited. Now Tara Reade is cancelled, and Joe is the nominee.
But Mika should be held accountable for presuming Joe guilty, before all the facts were out.

I really wish I understood Ari Melber's show. It is almost pointless. Could we move him to 4 and have Nicole lead in to Joy's show.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 22, 2020 1:11 AM |
Ari's an attorney, so I think they brought him on a some sort of legal analyst.
Dan Abrams used to be the go-to law guy for MSNBC, but when he left, they filled the void with Ari.
I guess that MSNBC thought it would be worthwhile to have Ari as a commentator, since Trump breaks so many laws.
But alas, Washington and Congress doesn't seem to care about how many laws Trump breaks.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 22, 2020 1:23 AM |
The only thing I like about Ari Melber is that he's a lawyer who's capable of asking questions and making comments that are intelligent and informative from a legal perspective. Unfortunately, he's not content to remain in that role without veering off into rap territory. Now that you mention it, R63, I miss Dan Abrams!
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 22, 2020 1:26 AM |
I loved Dan Abrams. I'm not sure if the average MSNBC watcher is all that into rap.
Cara Carleton Sneed was born on September 6, 1954, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of Madelon Montross (née Juergens) and Joseph Tyree Sneed III. The name "Carleton", from which "Carly" is derived, has been used in every generation of the Sneed family since the Civil War. At the time of her birth, Fiorina's father was a professor at the University of Texas School of Law. He would later become dean of Duke University School of Law, Deputy U.S. Attorney General, and judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Her mother was an abstract painter. She is mainly of English and German ancestry, and was raised Episcopalian. Her paternal great-great-great-grandfather, Joseph P. Sneed, was a Methodist minister and educator in Texas.
I never would have guessed. All this time, I thought she was Italian. She kind of looks Italian.
So I'm thinking that maybe she had a heavy Texas accent, and tried to get rid of it.

It's that time in the election cycle when MSNBC tries to be a little more balanced and invites a few sacrificial Republicans to be on a few panels. They get torn down immediately and don't fight back. I remember in 2016 some cheap, whorish woman on Trump's campaign (pre-Kellyanne) was on Lawrence's show. About ten seconds after she started spouting her bullshit, Lawrence said very loudly "OH SHUT UP!" I relish that moment even today.

How does one justify his smirky, barely self-contained bask-in-his-own glow persona? Rachel is a Ph. D. Rhodes scholar, yet she manages without Hayes level of self-congratulatory smarm.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | August 31, 2020 6:13 PM |
Rachel is an alpha dyke who has to one up everyone. The first time she had Pete on she mentioned that she was a Rhodes scholar FIRST within the first 20 seconds of the interview, as if Pete was supposed to grovel and praise her for it. She’s also a loony toon who pushed Russian conspiracy theories for 2 years. There’s a reason her ratings tanked after the muller report was released.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | August 31, 2020 6:22 PM |
Rachel uses faux modesty: “Did I get anything wrong?” Meaning “Please tell everyone I got it exactly right.” She conveys her contempt by explaining everything three or four times, showing she doesn’t think her audience is smart enough to follow along.
The first time she had Pete on she mentioned that she was a Rhodes scholar FIRST within the first 20 seconds of the interview, as if Pete was supposed to grovel and praise her for it.

No, there are a couple of times when a reporter (who's story Rachel's explaining) or guest (who is the subject of her discussion) provides additional detail that's germane to our understanding what's going on.
In that context, I think it's also a sign of respect that after providing the set-up, Rachel then defers to the reporter or the subject in order for them to be the last word in defining the overall narrative.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | September 1, 2020 2:39 AM |
Most guests would correct an important error on their own initiative, and 99% of the time we hear the “you got it exactly right, Rachel.” Completely unnecessary.

Have her ratings gone down since Trump??? I used to complain she was spending too much time on him and his controversies. I just want the good old days. Remember when she broke stories like Bridgegate & Flint??? Petty local corruption?? Hopefully a Biden adminstration would re-center her show, but I really miss Rachel from 2015/2016.

R131 - I haven't watched tonight's show yet, but yesterday's show (to which R120 alluded) was a discussion of Michael Schmidt new book - which was also discussed this morning on Morning Joe.
Given the book contains new information, it was certainly worth discussing.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | September 2, 2020 2:31 AM |
I still love Rachel but do admit I'm surprised the publishing companies are okay with her reading so much of their authors' books on her show. Yes, it's great promotion and not really the entire book but she basically reads out for the audience anything in there that might be considered the headliner (or the reason you might actually want to buy it). But here she is reading it out for free, so why bother.
That said, it's vital information that needs to get out (particularly with regard to Schmidt's book last night), so it's worth the time to listen.

I’ve never appreciated Rachel’s fetish for reading long excerpts of trial transcripts, memos, books etc. with the text up on the screen so you can spot her changes. She complains about not having time for the news, but wastes so much of it.

Exactly, R149. The point she was making -- and I agree with her -- is why do all Muslims get condemned for acts of terrorism but no one condemns all white Americans for the acts of right-wing radical groups. I'm sure the only people "dragging" her were right-wing trolls like R147.

Look, Trump is radicalizing his followers, and the media does give him a pass, but she did make a sweeping, unflattering generalization about Muslims that was completely unnecessary to make those points.
Once again, she plays the victim rather than own what she said. No doubt some of her critics are happy to go after her for reasons unrelated to concern for Muslims, but they did not “misconstrue” what she said.
Once again, she relies upon her friends to bail her out.
I wonder how many times that will work for her.

Joy Reid is on Morning Joe, and I can't stand listening to her.
She is the absolute worst.
Everything out of her mouth is opinion, and nothing based on fact. Which is why she gets into so much fucking trouble.
Reid is one of the least intelligent commentators on the entire network, simply because she goes on these long, annoying rants (like she's doing right now on Morning Joe), and cites no references or research. It's all just fucking OPINION.
Well nobody wants to hear your goddamned OPINION, bitch.

The 2nd half of Rachel's two hour show consisted of a repeat of her interviews with Stephanie Winston Wolkoff and Michael Schmidt's - I guess in case anyone missed it.
I don't think it was to put Lawrence out to pasture so much as it was for MSNBC to get the night people home for the Labor Day weekend - and have them well rested enough for when Michael Cohen pays a visit next week.
by Anonymous | reply 187 | September 5, 2020 2:51 PM |
R187, it was the same thing with Joy's show prior to Rachel's -- she did a 2-hour show, the second hour taking over Chris Hayes' spot, and part of her second hour was a repeat segment of her interview with Mary Trump. As you said, I think they did this to give folks the night off and an early start for the Labor Day weekend. (Instead of Steve Kornacki filling in for Brian at 11 as he's done all week, they repeated Ari's show from earlier in the evening.)
There will be no new shows on Monday night by the way.

R260, I'm surprised that Joshua Johnson is going to get the primetime hours on Saturday and Sunday. He's not my favorite, but he is openly gay, so that's nice. I guess Kasie Hunt's Sunday political show was not bringing in enough viewers.

R263, Joshua Johnson is far from being eye candy. He's got an unattractive mouth, like a fish, and bad hair.

Willie Geist used to have that lead-in show to "Morning Joe."
I think it was called "Way Too Early." I remember I texted in one morning, and he read my text on-air. He also had Louis Bergdorf as a sidekick sometimes.
It was an okay show, but basically just a filler to compete with CNN's 4-5 am show.

If Nicolle Wallace doesn't care how her hair looks on national TV, doesn't someone at MSNBC give a shit about it? I used to excuse it because she's having to appear from her basement or wherever and may not have access to the kind of staff needed to help her. But it's been 6 months since the pandemic mode commenced and surely she could at least have managed to get it cut by now! Does she glance in the mirror each day and think she looks just fine? Does that schlubby boyfriend with the collarless black jacket tell her every morning that she's such a natural beauty there's no need to gild the lily by doing something with that drab lank mop? Even just pulling it back in a ponytail with a rubberband would be an improvement.

Reid didn't shape up on her own. Before her move, she did occasional subbing for evening hosts or panel appearances on election nights and still wore ridiculous outfits and weaves.

The Hill: Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Monday praised President Trump's “true presidential behavior” regarding the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, prompting backlash primarily from the left on social media, including from former colleague Keith Olbermann.
“Trump is right to show respect for RBG. True presidential behavior. Far too rare,” Matthews tweeted to his more than 950,000 followers.
The post from the former speechwriter to President Jimmy Carter came after Trump said on "Fox & Friends" that he plans to announce his nominee to replace Ginsburg, who died Friday due to complications from pancreatic cancer, on Friday or Saturday.
The president added that he wanted to “pay respect” to Ginsburg by waiting until after her funeral services to announce his nominee.

Joy and her guests spoke about the Breonna Taylor prosecutor’s decision without ever mentioning that her boyfriend shot at the police first. They never mentioned that he was armed or firing at the police at all. I’m not endorsing the AG’s decision, but how can you discuss it without mentioning that the police were being shot at when they fired?
by Anonymous | reply 334 | September 24, 2020 9:53 PM |
The BF claims the police never announced themselves and as far as he was concerned, they were armed intruders bursting into his home & simply he was defending himself.
by Anonymous | reply 335 | September 25, 2020 1:34 AM |
Additionally, R334 (and R335), by now it's essentially common knowledge, as it has been regularly reported, that Kenneth Walker, Breonna's boyfriend, woke up to what sounded like a break-in, then grabbed and fired his legally registered gun once at those cops, who were indeed armed intruders.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | September 25, 2020 5:49 AM |

Joy has an agenda. That being said, I still think the boyfriend acted appropriately. His house was being invaded in the middle of the night by armed, unidentified intruders. Brick walls are very common in townhouses in DC. Some townhouses have been converted to condos too and retain the brick. I prefer a painted brick wall in off white.

Oh and I have to mention this: on NBC's Evening News on Sunday night, the anchor (Kate Snow) meant to say "the world's most important patient" when talking about Trump at Walter Reed, but it instead came out as, "The world's most impatient - most [bold]important[/bold] patient . . ."

R413 My dad watches the news constantly. As soon as the reporting-from-home thing started, he began to rant to me about the book shelves that everyone placed behind their cameras. He said he can buy someone like John Meacham’s home office has a library behind the desk, but everyone else is a pretentious asshole trying to curate some kind of intellectual statement by carefully arranging certain books behind them. I thought his annoyance was funny but there’s definitely truth to it. I’m sure most of these people rearranged their furniture so that they could have a wall of ‘smart book’ behind them.
by Anonymous | reply 416 | October 12, 2020 11:49 AM |
Funny you just mentioned that R416, because I was staring at all the books behind David Ignatius who is another guest on Morning Joe.

R417 I don’t think my dad doubts that the people on camera read the books they own. It’s more the pretense of always happening to have one’s camera aimed at one’s walls of books. Someone above criticized Katty Kay’s living room style, but I give her credit for not rearranging her house so that she can make herself look like an intellectual courtesy of a home library.

R442 A college or university trustee is a member of the board that governs a higher education institution. The board is made up of community representatives and collectively is legally responsible for ensuring that the institution operates according to its mission, that it is financially sound, etc. Public college and university board trustees are locally elected like school board members are or appointed (usually) by the state governor and usually are community leaders, such as businesspeople—lawyers, doctors, small business owners or business execs. Private university board members are selected by other members of the board or college alums. Public boards typically focus on financial oversight and students’ outcomes, whereas private board such as that of Notre Dame do a lot more fundraising, so they tend to be highly connected (and therefore in my opinion more likely to have conflicts of interest and to be corrupt) operators. At Notre Dame, I’d expect board members to be mostly conservative Catholics or if not then to really rake in money or broker major relationships for the university.
Boards don’t do any of the work of a university/college. They receive reports and approve or reject what they are given by a collective vote. Their biggest job besides ensuring fiscal solvency is to hire, evaluate and fire the college president. The board is the boss of the president, setting broad goals that the president is responsible for carrying out, and those goals can range from fundraising targets to increasing graduation rates to (this should never happen but it does) awarding major contracts to their companies or their friends’ businesses.
by Anonymous | reply 448 | October 13, 2020 6:18 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 450 | October 13, 2020 7:09 AM |
R449 I’m not surprised. High-profile alums usually are asked to serve on a board for prestige, because it pays dividends in recognition and esteem by association whether or not they are very engaged. You can look at any college or university board list and most names won’t be known to you even though most of the people are wealthy or connected to wealth. But once you see a famous name, you’ll stop, think “Oh!” and you’ll associate the institution with someone familiar and probably somewhat esteemed. It’s very good PR. And of course for the person, it’s a major feather in their cap to be assigned to a notable higher ed institution governing board. It’s prestigious and also very rewarding for an ego that likes power but can claim public service.
The Notre Dame board of trustees is ridiculously huge. They must be a rubber stamp type board; there’s no way this many people can actually do the work of a governing board productively if many of them are actively engaged. They’ve got to be there mainly to rake in cash. The chair is the former chairman of Vanguard—$$$$$$.

It's a matter of prestige for the members and they may profit from the association. But the university / college's goal is definitely to rake in cash FROM them. Board members or Trustees are chosen for their name and/or their money. The expectation is they will be either principal donors (seven figures) themselves or facilitate fundraising through their connections or name and reputation.

I didn't think about this although it would make sense....is Nicolle apart of the Lincoln Project?? I know she makes no secret of being/having worked with Republicans, but is she down with the Lincoln Project???
Seems a bit too conflict of interest for me although I generally support it.
... is [Nicolle Wallace] down with the Lincoln Project??? Seems a bit too conflict of interest for me although I generally support it.
Well, R482, she's fucking "NY Times" reporter Michael Schmidt, who frequently appears as a guest on her show. I'm not aware that either of them has revealed this to the public, though they've apparently told MSNBC about it and been cleared to continue the professional relationship without disclosing the personal one to the audience. So a little thing like being long-time pals with a founder of the Lincoln Project (who frequently appears as a guest on her show, just like Mikey) hardly seems to matter. I don't care one way or the other, but do find journalistic "ethics" to be confusing on occasion.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | October 21, 2020 2:22 AM |
Michael Schmidt is a Republican? Is that verified?
Nicolle Wallace was a Republican; she is no longer. She left the party over....wait for it.....TRUMP.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | October 21, 2020 2:59 AM |
Oh wait, do you mean Steve Schmidt, who is her friend and also a former Repubican? Did you get him confused with Michael Schmidt, the reporter and the guy she may or may not still be dating?
by Anonymous | reply 487 | October 21, 2020 3:02 AM |
R485, last I heard, they split up. Did they get back together?
by Anonymous | reply 488 | October 21, 2020 3:02 AM |
I haven't heard that they broke up, R488 -- if they did, I haven't heard whether they got back together.
R487, Michael Schmidt and Steve Schmidt are 2 different people (and not related as far as I know). I don't know what political party (if any) Michael belongs to. Steve was a Republican but may have left the party by now and is a founder of the Lincoln Project.

Nicolle can do better than Michael Schmidt
by Anonymous | reply 490 | October 21, 2020 12:39 PM |
Joe and Mika, Nicolle and dude of the day...for a supposedly Democratic news network, MSNBC sure does harbor a lot of horny Republicans who get around with their colleagues. Between that and NBC counterprogramming for Trump to compete against Biden, protecting Lauer, protecting Weinstein, the lascivious stuff at NBC networks seems to outdo even Fox News’s antics with Roger Ailes.
Are NBC News Christmas parties just big Baby Boomer orgies?

Back on DL after several months away so forgive me if this has already been discussed but have you all noticed the coolness between Chris Hayes and Rachel in the last months? They barely speak as he cues her show. I think he's furious that he wasn't chosen to be a part of the debate and election night triumvirate of Rachel, Joy and Nicolle. I'm assuming Rachel chose the two ladies for the panel. And because he has the 8 pm slot he was completely off the air for many nights during the most important time of the year.
And lately Joy and Lawrence are chatting up a storm together whereas once there was so much coolness and awkwardness. Lawrence is really fawning over her every chance he gets.
Anyone else notice this stuff?
by Anonymous | reply 574 | November 8, 2020 12:59 AM |
Yes, I noticed it R574 . Also, when Rachel appeared during Joy's segment tonight, first Joy mentioned needing an excuse to have Nicole, Rachel, and Joy back together because the three of them bonded during the election coverage. Rachel sincerely agreed; her tone struck me. Wrapping up, Joy said she considered Rachel family and talked about Rachel coming to her family barbecues. Then she called Rachel "sister" and told her she loves her. Rachel reciprocated. Even my aunt exclaimed, "I thought they didn't get along?!" Something about that group dynamic has changed.
I used to like Chris Hayes and found him very attractive. But yes, something about him has changed and I notice his smarmy intellectual superior attitude has ramped up. During a Kornacki segment, Hayes would ask him questions and begin interrupting even as Steve was trying to answer as if Hayes already knew the answer. It was really annoying and made Hayes out to be an arrogant asshole. Maybe Rachel also sees this and is trying to distance herself from Hayes. Rachel doesn't suffer fools easily. But yeah, something has definitely changed among that group.
by Anonymous | reply 575 | November 8, 2020 3:22 AM |
Joy was acting like a child earlier.
She had on Michael Steele, David Plouffe, and another guest, and she was openly gloating and mocking Trump during her segment.

I was actually embarassed for her.

by Anonymous | reply 578 | November 8, 2020 5:41 AM |
