I miss Meredith Baxter-Birney
She was gorgeous when she was young. Even on Family Ties she was still very pretty.
There's something about her looks that reminds me of a blonde Lauren Graham though for the life of me I can't figure out why. It's just always struck me.

She looked very lesbian now.

My favorite Meredith Baxter Birney performance will always be the bulimic housewife the 1986 film "Kate's Secret". MacKenzie Phillips & Ed Asner also appear.

My fave performance of Baxter's, and I believe most on DL will agree, was the killer in A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story and its sequel. She WAS Betty!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 13, 2020 12:54 AM |
What about her portrayal as a retarded woman in Winnie?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 13, 2020 1:11 AM |
She was even more Betty than Betty!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 13, 2020 2:12 AM |
She was a Winnie before Rosie was riding the bus with her sister.

I remember that secret TV movie where she had bulimia. She starts eating a birthday cake at the kitchen counter by the handful and pulls it into the floor in an eating frenzy. I stopped watching then.

Here on DL we say she went from Meredith Baxter Birney to Meredith Baxter Lesbian.
Her book is of the "look what they did to me" variety, she's not culpable in anything bad that happened in her life. She was in there trying and surrounded by people who mistreated her or didn't understand.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 13, 2020 2:34 AM |
Miss? She’s dead? Did you forget the “dead to me part” OP?
It was cheesy, but I liked her as mom in The Most Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 13, 2020 2:41 AM |
She had five husbands?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 13, 2020 2:42 AM |
Read the book R11. None of those divorces were her fault! Look what they did to her!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 13, 2020 2:45 AM |
Her and Kelly McGillis really embraces their inner lesbian. No makeup or obsessive dieting.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 13, 2020 2:46 AM |
I always hated that old dyke
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 13, 2020 2:48 AM |
R10, she isn't dead.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 13, 2020 3:02 AM |
I enjoyed her performance in the made-for-tv movie, My Breast.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 13, 2020 10:22 PM |
Years ago, Meredith attended a benefit for children with AIDS, she told a reporter: 'Children with AIDS are the real victims".
Translation: Gay men deserve illness & death.

My Breast was a great movie.

Yes r18 & r20.
Thanks for the mammaries.

She claims in her book that all three of her husbands beat her, including David Birney, who denies the claim. After reading her memoirs, I side with Birney.

I liked her in that TV movie where she was a nurse addicted to drugs and stole drugs from the hospital for her and her husband.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 14, 2020 12:55 AM |
Was she.a lesbian on Family?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 14, 2020 12:56 AM |
R24 She's not into groupe sex Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 14, 2020 1:05 AM |
It's so sad about her health and all. At least they say she's no aware of it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 14, 2020 1:05 AM |
A bit of fun trivia. Her Mother was Whitney Blake, the Mom on Hazel and co-creator of One Day at a Time. Also quite pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 14, 2020 1:16 AM |
Was she a fucking dyke on Family or not?

Yes, R28. Meredith and Kristy McNichol were the original Scissor Sisters. There was even talk of a spin-off!

by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 14, 2020 7:33 PM |
No r28. But she and Willie did plenty of bed-hopping.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 15, 2020 7:16 PM |
Like Tea Leone, Meredith Baxter strikes me as someone who isn't inherently an actress. She's has no flair, she's humorless and she isn't particularly expressive. She's very square and seem more suited to a straight job than Hollywood. And how the hell does someone marry three times and suddenly realize she's a lesbian? She seems cold, not very self-aware and completely lacking in sensuality - like if you touched her she'd recoil as if shocked by static electricity.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 15, 2020 7:25 PM |
She never sucked MY cock!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 15, 2020 7:27 PM |
R27 I was about to mention that.
Only two degrees of separation - or two SLAPS! - between Meredith and one of our true DL legends.

R39 not just marry three times but also have five kids - they didn't get in her box via the turkey baster
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 15, 2020 7:48 PM |
R42, I beat you to it.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 15, 2020 7:56 PM |
She reminds me of the woman who was the mom on Wonder Years. Very pretty blondes, perfect moms.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 15, 2020 7:57 PM |
She’s an enigma.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 15, 2020 8:43 PM |
She was a pretty good actress and much better than she had to be as a “mom” on an 80s sitcom, but there was always something not quite likable about her, that became much more pronounced as the series went on.
She and Fox had some very well acted scenes together (for a sitcom of that time), but at the same time they often gave off an uncomfortable vibe (on her end). It’s really hard to explain, actually.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 15, 2020 9:42 PM |
Also, another piece of trivia....in the late 80s she was the highest paid actress on television (yes, higher than Joan Collins), because of the favored nations clause she had from the beginning (no wonder she and Fox got along!)
She was getting 125k an episode by the last season which is absurd given that absolutely no one watched the show because of her (Justine Bateman, MAYBE, but that’s it other than Fox).
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 15, 2020 9:45 PM |
[quote] I enjoyed her performance in the made-for-tv movie, My Breast.
She was even better in the sequel, My Clitoris.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 15, 2020 9:51 PM |
I can't wait for Meredith's sequel to both, My Neck, My Back
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 15, 2020 10:52 PM |
I saw her and Michael Gross in LOVE LETTERS. It was cute to see them together again. But I’m inclined to agree with r39’s assessment.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 15, 2020 10:57 PM |
I love Murphy Brown.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 15, 2020 11:00 PM |
Did she and Fox get along? I seem to remember something about things being tedious between them.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 15, 2020 11:51 PM |
^^She was extremely vocal about her displeasure of Fox taking over the series as the main character. When it began, the series focused on the trials of 60s flower children Baxter and Gross raising a family that included a conservative son. By the end they were so marginalized they were interchangeable as the parent figure.

I didn’t think the last husband was physically abusive just a loser and the first husband wasn’t physically abusive throughout the marriage, but they did have a physical fight when she said she was going to leave him.
Birney was the one that she said was physical and emotionally abusive throughout the marriage. I know when she was on Oprah her two older kids and her younger daughter with Birney backed her up.
Her and fox got along and he car pooled with her for a while during the shows early years.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 16, 2020 4:00 AM |
I actually believe her about Birney (even if she doesn’t always come across as that believable) because there are two interviews (one with Charlie Rose, one on another show that I think is no longer on you tube) and when you see the dynamic you can very much believe her claims and then some. The one I can no longer find (it was from around the same time) is even worse tension than the Charlie Rose one.
And also of course that all of her children and FT co-stars unequivocally support her.
I agree she has a victim complex but that doesn’t mean the shit isn’t true. And he really did seem like a pompous chauvinistic ass.
