Mr. Allen, who starred in some of the most popular sitcoms of the 1970s, died on Monday from respiratory issues not related to COVID-19.

I remember him as "Woody the Wino", Esther's husband on "Sanford and Son." I guess he had to be drunk all the time in order to have married her. Anyway, Raymond Allen was very funny as Woody. RIP.

My sister texted me about this. I was very sad to hear it, even though I haven't seen him in years. Another piece of your childhood as they say. RIP.

R4, there was a different actor than Allen as the original Woodrow, who got the wisecrack from Esther.

Yes, the first appearance of Woodrow was played by another actor. But Raymond Allen really made the role his own.
