Surprising or expected?
That she aged as time passed? I think some of us expected that.

I have to say surprising. On the one hand 70 years is...well...70 years, but she seemed a bit too vain to let herself go full albino. I heard that she had mental health issues, so it could be that too. Her skin looks really good, I'll say that. Maybe I'm just used to seeing the Hollywood version of 70 years old.

She looks like shit. Hahahahahahaha

I'm surprised.

Sophia never removed the curse.
So not surprising,

Somebody on one of 'The Comeback' threads said Michael Patrick King partially based Valerie Cherish on Shelley, from working with her on the ill-fated 'Good Advice', during which she had a breakdown. There was a year gap between seasons, which was unheard of in the mid-90s.

Is she playing Betsy Ross in a TV movie?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 27, 2020 8:53 AM |
I would believe it, R6.
Good Advice did well in the spring of 1993 and was renewed for the fall. It was pulled from the schedule and didn't show up until May 1994, when it was in burn-off territory. The network said Shelley had been "sick with the flu."
Uh, what? And people actually bought that at the time.

Shelley tried to pull a Judy Garland after her husband left her in 2004.

[quote]Perceived problem: Her skirmishes with Cheers costar Ted Danson have made Long grist for the rumor mill. In fact, the industry is abuzz that her current ”flu” is actually (a) a nervous breakdown, (b) a money battle with the network, (c) or an ego clash with costar Teri Garr.

Back in the 80s there was a common term for people who were chronically uptight, "anal retentive". Shelley Long personified that pop-psych analysis. I wonder if she's still Miss Persnickety or has finally relaxed a bit? Just going by looks I would say she's evolved into a classic old schoolmarm

Holy Fucking shit!
When I think she looks like crap

Ms Long went through terrible depression, lost so much weight her friends feared for her life. She will always be a legend, she owes you whores nothing!

Has Bette Midler commented?

Shelley still looks better than Rhea Perlman ever did...
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 27, 2020 12:40 PM |
Good for Long.
I think she looks better with the natural effects of aging and gravity than do former beauties who now look like their surgeon was Gepetto the Shoe Cobbler..

She looks fine. Like a normal old lady.
Not everyone is desperate to recapture their look from 40 years ago.

I love women who age gracefully. Put some makeup on her and she'd look great, particularly if they showed a photo of her smiling.

She looks like the granny logo for Grandma’s Cookies now.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 27, 2020 1:31 PM |
Teri Garr is a notorious cunt, so feuding with her probably speaks well for Ms Long.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 27, 2020 1:58 PM |
She looks old for 70, but at least she's not dumpy and that's probably all her own hair.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 27, 2020 2:04 PM |
It doesn’t look like life has been particularly easy for her over the past 20 years. Despite being a gifted actress, work really slowed down for her as she neared 50, and her ex-husband started a new family with a younger woman shortly after their divorce.
Her lookalike daughter posts frequently about her dad on Instagram, but hasn’t referenced Shelley at all in years. Wonder what the story is there.

I adore Shelley Long and always will. It's not easy to work amid depression, and probably even more so when you have that cunt Teri Garr on your tail. Be well, Shelley!

Wasn't she in some episodes of modern family?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 27, 2020 3:18 PM |
She's 70 and doesn't bother putting on makeup and styling her hair to go get a drink with a friend. Good for her.
BTW, her skin is beautiful. Almost line-free.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 27, 2020 4:30 PM |
R25 Yes, when she has makeup on she looks great. But no need to gussy up when you’re just getting a drink with a friend. I think she’s aged very gracefully.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 27, 2020 4:33 PM |
R34, yes she was on Modern Family. There was a significant change in her appearance between her first and second episode; initially, she was a svelte and chic mature woman, like an older Diane Chambers. Curiously, she was wearing an obvious, shiny wig.
By the time of her next guest spot two years later, she was in full-on cozy grandma mode; matronly, round-faced, with thick glasses.
Everyone ages and I’m still a fan. She’s talented and articulate, unlike most of today’s famous actresses, and I love her speaking voice.
