In the middle of the interview, she should've excused herself to go heat the lasagna.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 26, 2020 4:03 AM |
The surgery is terrifying, but her demeanor and movement seems so sturdy and steady for someone of that age. She seems like she takes good care of her self both physically and mentally. I'd be thrilled to be like that at her age.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 26, 2020 4:06 AM |
Yikes. She was always fabulous though.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 26, 2020 4:06 AM |
I read her memoir and it was very good. She was blacklisted for a long time, one of the worst on the Commie list. She said YES to plastic surgery but that's normal for women in Hollywood. She' a great gal and I don't hold it against her.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 26, 2020 4:09 AM |
She writes in her memoir that she always had a lot of issues with her age because she lost most of her youth to the blacklist. She says she had a facelift at like 30.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 26, 2020 4:19 AM |
Lee said that she was born in 1925 which makes her 95 this year.

she looks strange but she seems to all there and quite vital and alive.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 26, 2020 4:56 AM |
Who remembers her NBC sitcom "Fay"?
After it was abruptly cancelled, Lee went on the Tonight Show and trashed NBC while Johnny just sat back and enjoyed the verbal tirade.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 26, 2020 4:59 AM |
Johnny himself had a few choice words for NBC during that era. A lot of people did if they could barely launch a hit show in prime time that wasn’t connected to Gary Coleman in some way. They still had Disney but they were similarly stagnant.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 26, 2020 5:17 AM |
I do think the surgery kept her from major roles after the 90's. The last time I saw her on screen was her cameo in Mulholland Drive where she looked horrifying. I wasn't sure if it was an intentional makeup job at first.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 26, 2020 6:23 PM |
The paparazzi photographer is being so kind calling her lovely many times, or is he throwing shade.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 26, 2020 6:25 PM |
LOVE HER. Always have. It's sad that her doctor did such AGRESSIVE work. And she must have had this surgery in her 80's+ (based on videos, ect)
It looks like they gave her permanent lip implants, permanent cheek implants, a complete eye job and a brow lift/and/or facelift.
To boot, she is stuffed with more fillers than Wildenstein.
That's ALOT. That being said, she is a great conversationalist and is SO mentally alert. Its pretty great-

by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 26, 2020 7:09 PM |
I just saw her in an old Columbo on MeTV last week. She was really good and I have always liked her. She doesn’t look horrible in those clips but think it is an impossible task to maintain ones same look in old age, hair and all.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 26, 2020 7:15 PM |
She was so regal looking in the 1970s.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 26, 2020 9:12 PM |
I love her! She's still so feisty and "with it" and I think we can only hope and pray to be as sharp as she is at that age. I do think being blacklisted at such a young age made her very vain, hence the first face lift at 30. That's a bit extreme. She was clearly trying to make up for all that lost time, but she was looking pretty normal well into the 90's. Not sure what happened after that.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 26, 2020 9:34 PM |
The surgery she's had to maintain her "40 look" is truly horrifying, it's like these people must not have mirrors in their house or their eyesight is 90% gone. However, the younger "Lee Grant" face that we all knew and loved , as has been stated, was manufactured.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 26, 2020 9:41 PM |

I do love how she has had the same hairstyle for 50 years!!!
Her hair looks fucking great- remember when 65 year old grandmothers let it all go to shit and have gray perms!!!?
What a great lady. And her face does sadden me, but she has a natural beauty that still shines through.

She won that Oscar in 1976 and kept the exact same hairdo for 45 years.

Her face looks like it's melting off the bone, but even still, she looks great for someone who is 95 years old--even more importantly, she still seems sharp as a tack.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 26, 2020 10:57 PM |
It’s not just her mental faculties that were obviously intact when she was interviewed departing LAX but, more astonishingly, the manner in which she carries herself suggests someone so much younger.

weird that all these heavily surgically enhanced women eventually looked the same in the face
by Anonymous | reply 52 | July 26, 2020 11:22 PM |
It's not that weird. Many of them were trying to improve their looks - e.g. a little, upturned nose versus their original, more ethnic nose. The Debbie Harrys of the world, who have maintained their beauty by pulling everything up but not altering their original features, are more rare.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 26, 2020 11:36 PM |
The "hair" she wore for so long was a fall or hairpiece for the hair knowledge challenged. I thought she looked great too. HOWEVER, a 95, hell a 75 year old, trying to achieve the very same look of herself multiple decades earlier, looks ridiculous. And pathetic. It's like women or men who use black hair dye when they're 75. Ewww.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 26, 2020 11:41 PM |
It's only sad because she was so attractive and could have aged so gracefully and beautifully. Hard to know why she kept going under the knife, especially when it became clear that she was no longer enhancing her looks but detracting from them.
I've always like her very much, though. Met her once. Super nice and chatty.

R48 I so agree. It's the way she moves. I wonder if she has some secret to staying youthfully agile or if it's genes.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 28, 2020 2:34 PM |
I can understand vanity and the Hollywood mentality to stay as youthful as possible as long as possible, but the unwillingness to mature gracefully with multiple plastic surgeries rears it's ugly head once they manage to life to a ripe age.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 28, 2020 2:54 PM |
I Google Image searched Lee and one of the images that came up was a TV movie she did with Molly Ringwald about a young woman (Ringwald) who contracts HIV. Grant played Ringwald's mother - not grandmother. I thought that rather explains Lee Grant's dedication to plastic surgery. I don't know if there's a grandmother character in that movie but if there is, I'd bet it's not as good a part as that of the mother. Lee wanted to stay in the game as best she could. She wasn't trying to be 25 when she was 50. She was trying to play the best/meatiest parts available. I don't blame her. And let's be honest, if she had results like Debbie Harry, it wouldn't even be an issue.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 28, 2020 4:38 PM |
R67, Grant's dedication to plastic surgery started 20 years earlier after she lost more than a decade of potential work to the blacklist.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 28, 2020 4:46 PM |
She had WAY TOO MUCH surgery at well past any point of justifying the need for it. Tragic.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 28, 2020 4:48 PM |
Grant's dedication to plastic surgery started 20 years earlier after she lost more than a decade of potential work to the blacklist.
My point still stands. Grant wanted to stay in the "mother" group (or the DA stage of Debutante-District Attorney-Driving Miss Daisy). And it worked for her, for decades. She was Carrie Fisher's mother in Shampoo (mid 1970s) and she managed to hang on long enough to play Molly Ringwald's mother in the mid 1990s.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 28, 2020 4:52 PM |
Where is the decade of lost work? There was a drought in Grant's movie work - she did movies in 1951, 1955 and 1959. But she was still active on TV.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 28, 2020 4:56 PM |
Yeah her first face lift was at 29, but who really needs a face lift at 29? I think she's addicted to it. The fact is, she doesn't "look great" she looks like an old woman who had work done and it's all you can look at. I've known women in their 80s and 90s who have looked really good with nowork of any kind. Yeah, some had wrinkles, but I think people look unnatural and actually bad with no wrinkles at that age. She probably would have grown old nicely, she was always attractive. It's sad. And the hairstyle of a 30-year-old doesn't help either.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 28, 2020 5:00 PM |
R12, are you sure you have that right? If she was born in 1925 and had her (first) facelift at 30, that meant she had a facelift in 1955. Did they really even do facelifts in the 1950s?
At any rate, if she had a facelift that early and that young, it wasn't the blacklist that was going on in her head.
I think her work happened well after the 1980s, when she still looked normal.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 28, 2020 5:03 PM |
Regardless of when she had it, she's now had too much, looks frightful now, and has looked a fright for years.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 28, 2020 5:05 PM |
Her mouth is so distracting. She's got so much filler in her upper lip that her teeth don't show, which, upon closer observation is a good thing. They are horribly, horribly discolored. Why would someone have THAT much cosmetic surgery and neglect their teeth???
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 28, 2020 5:11 PM |
Yes R56 I remember her first from the night time soap version of Peyton Place. She was terrific.
She - or her character, or a bit of both - is really annoying in Detective Story her first movie - I think she got a BSA Oscar nomination for it - and she could be really cloying. She may have missed out on a few roles, but I think her talent and feline features would have limited her to supporting roles during that time.
Blacklist!!!! Blacklist.....my career!!!! She did okay. As the poster above said she worked a lot on television.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 28, 2020 5:12 PM |
From Lee Grant, below. All you really need to know about her obsession with appearing young:
"As an actress who was blacklisted as a girl, from the time I was 24, when I got my first Oscar nomination, to 36 when I restarted my career, I gained a heightened sense of “ getting it back” and “running with it.” Of letting nothing get in my way. Of staying 36 and not getting older."
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 28, 2020 5:12 PM |
Did they really even do facelifts in the 1950s?
Yes. Facelifts have been done for over 100 years. There was a woman, Fannie Ward, who was in a DeMille silent, The Cheat, who was 43 but played young women because she'd had her face lifted a few times - apparently her husband did, too. Clive Brook, who was in Shanghai Express with Marlene Dietrich, had a face lift that left his face kind of immobile. Etc.

by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 28, 2020 6:08 PM |
I figure she is 97 or something- Not 95
And that's not filler in her lip- That is a fucking implant or something permanent I think. Same with the cheeks.
That's why it is all so hard looking-
LOVE HER THOUGH. And she is one young 95- She's more like 68-70! (Her body language/mental acuity)
Lee doesn't even say her birth year, does she? I expect she claims 29 as the first facelift, when she was more likely 35/36.
Even if she lies about her age, why would she need to lie about what her age was when she had a face lift? No one is going to check the medical records. But even if she had it in her early or mid 30s, that's incredibly young to have a face lift.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 28, 2020 8:26 PM |
I've heard more than one old school celebrity recommend a facelift pre 40 (I assume late 30s rather than 31). Debbie Reynolds said that you get two good facelifts before you look odd, so space them out. I would guess that she or those other old schoolers meant 40 ish and then late 50s / 60 ish. After that, leave it or use tape ( if you're a woman and you wear wigs).
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 28, 2020 8:31 PM |
Scary face work aside, I still can't get over how spry and quick she is in that airport paparazzi clip. I've known 27 year olds who don't move that quickly and seem that alert. I'm more interested in what her secret is there. Does she workout every day? Do brain teasers? What's her secret to staying so engaged and vital?
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 28, 2020 8:32 PM |
I don't know Grant's history of speaking on the subject but if she mentioned the year of her first facelift in an interview before writing her autobiography, then that meant that she had decided on what age she wanted people to think she is, hence the "29" claim.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 28, 2020 8:32 PM |
*that meant she had to decide
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 28, 2020 8:33 PM |
I believe Angela Lansbury said she got her first facelift around 40 right before doing Mame. Of course, she always looked more mature than her age, so it didn't really make her look younger, just well preserved.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 28, 2020 8:33 PM |
Grant moved into directing documentaries, didn't she? It wouldn't surprise me if she keeps engaged, always on the look out for another subject, even if she hasn't completed one in donkey's years.

R70 Don't forget she played Damian Thorn's mum too... In [italic] Damian: Omen II [/italic] (1978) perhaps even twice; it's difficult for me to remember.
She also played the mum of a young girl who had demonic powers... I forget the name of the film, but in it she played a witch who also had such powers. She could hurl things around her kitchen with just a thought. It was hilarious, and campy at the same time, yet I don't think that's what they were going for.

That was the classic, cheesy TV movie THE SPELL. It was a CARRIE rip-off.
