Did you ever eat there?

This is where the Cesar salad originated?

by Anonymousreply 1July 23, 2020 9:25 PM

Whenever Desi Arnaz walked in Cesar served him on his knees.

by Anonymousreply 2July 23, 2020 9:30 PM

R1 The Cesar salad was invented by an Italian chef working in Mexico...Tijuana, I think.

by Anonymousreply 3July 23, 2020 9:41 PM

“So Italian even your Godfather will love us.”

CRINGE

by Anonymousreply 4July 23, 2020 9:42 PM

R3. So helpful. SO informative.

So needing to be seen as so helpful and informative.

by Anonymousreply 5July 23, 2020 9:44 PM

I figured he'd run a tea room rather than a coffee shop.

by Anonymousreply 6July 23, 2020 9:47 PM

From an old ad about their $5.99 Thanksgiving feast: “Anton at the piano.” Anyone know him?

by Anonymousreply 7July 23, 2020 9:56 PM

Cesar was more into crappuccino.

by Anonymousreply 8July 23, 2020 9:56 PM

What's a Cuban American doing with a vaguely Italian American restaurant?

When he wasn't on his knees or all fours, Cesar was a real standup guy. I LOVE Cesar Romero. One of my favorite old time stars.

by Anonymousreply 10July 23, 2020 10:00 PM

Any Cesar stories from the eldergays? He was hot when he was young

by Anonymousreply 11July 23, 2020 10:01 PM

Cesar Romero was HOT! He showed up in some of those rat pack movies; I wonder if those boys enjoyed him. He also had a reputation as being a great 'plus 1' for single female Hollywood royalty. Very debonair.

R5 Why so hateful? You're a dick.

by Anonymousreply 12July 23, 2020 10:07 PM

R11 Yes - stories, please!

It doesn't say what year those ads are, but let's say 1965...that 5.95 would be nearly $49.00 today.

by Anonymousreply 14July 23, 2020 10:32 PM

"Call Gilbert, your very Italian Maitre D'."

Excellent! Table for 2, please Gilbert, the name is Ben. Ben Dover. I live on Isle Drive.

by Anonymousreply 15July 23, 2020 10:44 PM

It looks fun

by Anonymousreply 16July 23, 2020 11:17 PM

Orange wedges for dessert.

by Anonymousreply 17July 23, 2020 11:31 PM

"Kliph"?

by Anonymousreply 18July 23, 2020 11:35 PM

I prefer Alan Hale's Lobster Barrell

He had such a lovely way of serving Clams Miranda.

^ LOL

by Anonymousreply 21July 24, 2020 1:03 AM

R20 Was that really on the menu? I thought Cesar wasn’t into clams.

by Anonymousreply 22July 24, 2020 1:16 AM

Is it true that he and Ty Power were lovers?

by Anonymousreply 23July 24, 2020 1:25 AM

He served those clams, and with a gracious smile. He was a gentleman!

by Anonymousreply 24July 24, 2020 1:32 AM

The three restaurants in that newspaper ad linked above are all serving exactly the same Thanksgiving dinner. Right down to the choice of green salad or turkey gumbo.

by Anonymousreply 25July 24, 2020 2:00 AM

I didn't know cappuccinos existed in 1965.

by Anonymousreply 26July 24, 2020 2:06 AM

It should be Lobster Trap at R9.

Who keeps lobster in a barrel?

by Anonymousreply 27July 24, 2020 2:22 AM

No one can beat the lobster barrel!

El Cheapo Ceasar doesn't give ya the ice cream or sherbet for dessert like good ole Skipper. I know where I would go eat.

by Anonymousreply 29August 17, 2020 2:43 AM

Leave Cesar aloooooonnnneeee!

by Anonymousreply 30August 17, 2020 4:19 AM

These are Cris Shapan's fake ads--- he has a Facebook page full of these.

by Anonymousreply 31August 17, 2020 4:27 AM

When I was about 5 or 6 my parents took me to Alan Hale’s Lobster Barrel - my dad was a dj back then and looked a lot like Alan Hale - when I watched Gilligan reruns it sort of confused me - my dad was right in the room - but he looked like the Skipper on TV. Anyway - Alan Hale came to our table wearing a Hawaiian shirt and his Skipper hat and greeted me by name all big and twinkly - I was so overwhelmed I cried. It is a very happy childhood memory! ....... in my 20s I saw Caesar Romero at an awards show - I am blanking on who he was escorting - tall beautiful blonde actress - ugh - I’ll remember later.

by Anonymousreply 33August 17, 2020 4:41 AM

I remember - He was escorting Anne Jeffreys.

by Anonymousreply 34August 17, 2020 4:49 AM

Madge, I'm very jealous because I was a big Skipper fan back in the day. My memories of seeing Al Lewis sitting outside his restaurant, trying to drum up business at his restaurant "Grandpa's" (or something like that) don't compare.

by Anonymousreply 35August 17, 2020 4:56 AM

Wait, do any of these restaurants exist today?

by Anonymousreply 36August 18, 2020 12:01 AM

Nope

by Anonymousreply 37August 18, 2020 12:43 AM

Damn, $5.95 for a turkey dinner.
