Actress Naya Rivera Missing After Swimming In Lake Piru With 4-Year-Old Son
by Anonymous | reply 603 | July 9, 2020 6:10 PM |
The Glee cast is cursed!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 9, 2020 6:07 AM |
Ventura County officials confirm missing woman is 33-year-old actress Naya Rivera. Her 4-year-old son was found alone in a boat on Lake Piru this afternoon.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 9, 2020 6:07 AM |
Told you bitches I was hardcore.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 9, 2020 6:07 AM |
Was Lea Michele spotted in the vicinity?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 9, 2020 6:07 AM |
Damn. Sorry to hear this.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 9, 2020 6:08 AM |
Damn, is she going to be the third death from the Glee cast?
That's pretty insane to think about.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 9, 2020 6:09 AM |
WHAT THE FUCK!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 9, 2020 6:10 AM |
Naya was found sleeping at home. The baby was trying to make a getaway.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 9, 2020 6:10 AM |
[quote] Damn, is she going to be the third death from the Glee cast?
My career died.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 9, 2020 6:10 AM |
At least this so young Naya person died on the Riviera.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 9, 2020 6:11 AM |
Was she maybe wearing a mask and found it hard to breathe?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 9, 2020 6:12 AM |
Please say the child is alive.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 9, 2020 6:14 AM |
She played Santana, who was easily the best character on the show. Got all the best lines.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 9, 2020 6:14 AM |
This reminds me of the Maryland Kennedy woman, but that kid died, and I think they never found that ball again.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 9, 2020 6:15 AM |
Who swims from a canoe in the middle of the lake?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 9, 2020 6:16 AM |
I will adopt the child. (Not for my career!)
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 9, 2020 6:16 AM |
They found her 4-year-old son alone on the boat. Poor kid must be traumatized.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 9, 2020 6:16 AM |
R13, that's telling; my best pal killed himself so I always think of that when I hear someone died.
I'd give anything to see him again
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 9, 2020 6:16 AM |
[quote] Who swims from a canoe in the middle of the lake?
Apparently Naya Rivera but not far.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 9, 2020 6:17 AM |
She took an awful chance on the child's life. Perhaps she intended to drown him but couldn't bring herself to do it. She slipped into the water and expected the child to "meet her on the other side" not long after.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 9, 2020 6:18 AM |
Planned murder-suicide but couldn't go through with the first part. Nobody swims from a canoe.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 9, 2020 6:18 AM |
Her last tweet is very ominous, almost like a goodbye
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 9, 2020 6:19 AM |
One thread will do, thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 9, 2020 6:20 AM |
The child had a life vest on. She didn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 9, 2020 6:21 AM |
Maybe it capsized, she turned it right-side up and lifted the kid into it. Then it would have been impossible to climb in herself.
Or...maybe she dropped her phone or keys or something and thought she could catch them before they sank too far.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 9, 2020 6:21 AM |
This is so sad. I can't imagine being in so much pain you actually put this sort of plan into action.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 9, 2020 6:21 AM |
Who will be the next Glee death and why is the answer Blake Jenner?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 9, 2020 6:21 AM |
[Quote] Or...maybe she dropped her phone or keys or something and thought she could catch them before they sank too far.
... Really?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 9, 2020 6:22 AM |
A murder-suicide by Blake Jenner? That I can see.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 9, 2020 6:22 AM |
Why are we assuming it was suicide?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | July 9, 2020 6:23 AM |
Didn’t she have a volatile relationship with her husband? Maybe she pulled a Julia Roberts in Sleeping With the Enemy and secretly learned how to swim like an Olympian and is faking her own death to get away from him? Maybe she’s on her way to Iowa with Kevin Anderson?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 9, 2020 6:24 AM |
If it were suicide, she would have dropped the kid off with a friend or relative first. She wouldn't do it right in front of him.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | July 9, 2020 6:24 AM |
I don't think the kid would have had the life jacket on if she was planning on killing herself and the child either. The kid is 4, she had to put it on them.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 9, 2020 6:26 AM |
My guess is an accident (jumped in after phone/keys) rather than suicide but we’ll likely never know for sure. The 4yo is gonna be traumatized for life, poor kid.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 9, 2020 6:26 AM |
Will Lea draft an RIP statement or just be silently glad that the news is on a different cast member?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 9, 2020 6:27 AM |
Canoe? It's been reported that it was a pontoon boat.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 9, 2020 6:28 AM |
All jokes aside, this is sad. Though no one has made the joke about how all the plastic surgery she's had should've kept her afloat, and that makes me sad for DL. My main concern is for Lea, for when she tries to make an IG tribute post and gets crucified AGAIN! I'm sure her PR person has told her to make no comment, but then she comes off like Susan Dey. It's a lose-lose.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 9, 2020 6:28 AM |
That's why you wait 30 minutes after eating before swimming, another victim of cramps!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | July 9, 2020 6:29 AM |
Do Lea Michele and her tootz have an alibi? Those stinkers are universally known to knock anyone off a boat.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | July 9, 2020 6:29 AM |
Boy was found 3 hours after the rental, asleep in the boat
by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 9, 2020 6:30 AM |
Her IG posts are on the level of an InstaHo. She still had employment on some dance show, but I guess thirst traps bolster "relevance"...
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 9, 2020 6:32 AM |
R19 What even more creepy than the song is that in the video the female band member is in a canoe in the river and it submerges and there’s a line “sink me in the river.”
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 9, 2020 6:33 AM |
I remember seeing her Christmas Card with Big Sean and thinking she'd gone off the deep end.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 9, 2020 6:34 AM |
Ventura County Sheriff's deputies found the 4-year-old boy on the boat -- presumably rented by Naya -- shortly before 5 PM on Lake Piru, but Naya was not there. Law enforcement sources tell us her son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, told deptuies his mom had jumped in the water ... but didn't come back up.
Divers immediately started searching the lake, but so far there's no sign of the "Glee" star.
We're told Rivera's lifejacket was still in the boat and Josey was asleep when the boat was first found. Josey is okay, and is now with family members. Naya and the boy's father, Ryan Dorsey, divorced in 2018 and share custody of Josey.
5-6 hours and no sign of her? She's dead, gang.

Jesus Christ what was in the water on Glee

Heather Morris will be devastated.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 9, 2020 6:41 AM |
Thank goodness he didn’t jump in after her.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 9, 2020 6:41 AM |
A word from Jackée. I had no idea Naya was on "The Royal Family."
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 9, 2020 6:42 AM |
Love that song, R19. Goodness this is terrible. If the boy saw her jump in the water she’s gone.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 9, 2020 6:45 AM |
The Glee curse is real. There is no way around this fact.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 9, 2020 6:46 AM |
Been there, done that.
Can’t these new “stars” find their own way to stay famous instead of doing what we legends did FIRST?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 9, 2020 6:48 AM |
I'd like to hope it was an accident and she wouldn't deliberately do that in front of her child. That's so fucked. Every time I hear about someone killing themselves in a way that someone who loves them will find the body, it's just so cruel.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 9, 2020 6:49 AM |
When's the Glee reunion?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | July 9, 2020 6:49 AM |
It better be soon r64.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 9, 2020 6:50 AM |
[Quote] I'd like to hope it was an accident and she wouldn't deliberately do that in front of her child.
She left her lifejacket behind.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 9, 2020 6:51 AM |
Was she suicidal? Mental health problems? A bad swimmer?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 9, 2020 6:51 AM |
I wouldn't call it a curse. GLEE didn't make Mark Salling a pedophile, or Blake Jenner a domestic abuser.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 9, 2020 6:52 AM |
Many people don't use a life jacket, doesn't mean they are try to kill themself r66. Just saying.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 9, 2020 6:52 AM |
This was one of her best performances and she never looked better.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 9, 2020 6:53 AM |
Hi Ryan r68. Tough breaks huh.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 9, 2020 6:53 AM |
Naya had a lot of plastic surgery. Looks Kardashian-esque. I don’t understand that as I’ve always found her so pretty!
R67, she’s had a lot of issues in the past, as far as I know.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 9, 2020 6:54 AM |
[Quote] Many people don't use a life jacket, doesn't mean they are try to kill themself [R66]. Just saying.
The child had a lifejacket on. And Naya left hers on the boat, with the child. (Two lifejackts)
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 9, 2020 6:54 AM |
all so sad.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 9, 2020 6:55 AM |
That mash up was one of the best pieces of music that came out of Glee r70.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 9, 2020 6:55 AM |
Beautiful child. Hopefully the ex husband has some stability.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 9, 2020 6:56 AM |

How weird.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 9, 2020 6:56 AM |
They’ve called off the search for this evening.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | July 9, 2020 6:56 AM |
Agree r72, she was pretty before she went way over board on the plastic surgery. Sad to see someone that young do that to their face.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 9, 2020 6:57 AM |
Be it lake or toilet, this swimsuit and water do NOT mix!
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 9, 2020 6:58 AM |
Her flat chest suited her physique and she absolutely did not need bigger lips.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 9, 2020 6:58 AM |
Folks, don’t worry, I know exactly where she is. And it’s really not appropriate to conjecture about suicide. I mean come on.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | July 9, 2020 7:02 AM |
She looked like the cartoon Pocahontas brought to life.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 9, 2020 7:02 AM |
The glee curse strikes again! Omg! The cast is so tragic.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 9, 2020 7:02 AM |
R41 I recognize that joke from The Mary Tyler Moore Show, starting at 2:15.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 9, 2020 7:08 AM |
Gifted actress and performer, and the Santana character sure helped a lot of people. Sad former gleek right now.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 9, 2020 7:09 AM |
First Lea’s career, now this.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 9, 2020 7:10 AM |
Who would have guessed that flashforward about seven years and a third of these people would be dead.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 9, 2020 7:11 AM |
I was just listening to her interviewed on her Glee co star Kevin Mchale’s podcast and I loved it. So sad.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 9, 2020 7:11 AM |
R41 here...R86, how the hell did you remember that joke in the clip so fast?!? It's true, though.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 9, 2020 7:14 AM |
Be thankful we're boring, DL.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 9, 2020 7:16 AM |
I confused why some people think she would take her son and rent a boat to commit suicide. Ever hear of an accidental drowning? If she was overconfident as a swimmer, she would take the lifejacket off. Weird.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 9, 2020 7:16 AM |
That's a huge lake for a solo mother and a very young child to go out alone. It's apparent she drowned and they will continue the search for her on Thursday. This is just tragic. I'm just glad her son was found safe.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 9, 2020 7:17 AM |
Maybe she's been kidnapped and is being held captive in some Mexican shack? If so, she should turn up in a week or two.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 9, 2020 7:17 AM |
R92 It’s right up there with the joke “what’s the only wood that doesn’t float....”
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 9, 2020 7:18 AM |
I'm not joking when I say if I were any of the living Glee stars I'd be shitting myself right now. They must feel like characters in a horror movie, sitting around, wondering which one of them is gonna die next.
by Anonymous | reply 98 | July 9, 2020 7:18 AM |
What ever happened to the white guy with yellow skin from Glee?
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 9, 2020 7:19 AM |
[Quote] Ever hear of an accidental drowning? If she was overconfident as a swimmer, she would take the lifejacket off. Weird.
It's weird to rent a boat so you can swim when the only person along with you is a four year old child. Who's watching the child while she swims? He could hit his head while she's in the water and she wouldn't know until she returned to the boat. The woman was clearly not well. And I'd wager that she hadn't been for a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 9, 2020 7:21 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 106 | July 9, 2020 7:23 AM |
Yeah, r100, no one is arguing that she made good decisions or that this turned out well. I'm just saying that an accident is much more likely than a suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | July 9, 2020 7:24 AM |
[Quote] I'm just saying that an accident is much more likely than a suicide.
I disagree. Every mother knows that you can't leave a child alone like that.

by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 9, 2020 7:26 AM |
I feel shitty for making a joke. It really is sad. Poor kid.
If it was a suicide, wouldn't they have found her body pretty easily?
by Anonymous | reply 111 | July 9, 2020 7:27 AM |
Really loved her character on Glee. She made those horrific storylines believable.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 9, 2020 7:27 AM |
Oh really R108
by Anonymous | reply 113 | July 9, 2020 7:27 AM |
Who says she intended to leave the child alone? She could have been swimming with him. (still not a good idea with a 4yo)
by Anonymous | reply 114 | July 9, 2020 7:28 AM |
[Quote] If it was a suicide, wouldn't they have found her body pretty easily?
Why? She probably swam away from the boat until she couldn't swim any longer. If she struggled with the "final action," tiring herself out would take the action out of her hands.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | July 9, 2020 7:29 AM |
[Quote] She could have been swimming with him.
The child was in the boat. Are you suggesting she put the child back in the boat and decide to do another lap?

An exchange from a 2015 appearance on The View. There was speculation that Naya came out by making the comment. She was newly married at the time.
Rosie: New research found that women who are bisexual are more likely to suffer from mental health problems than lesbians.
Naya: Rosie, no wonder I’m crazy. This just solves it all.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 9, 2020 7:34 AM |
Too early to jump to conclusions. She may well have fallen overboard for a medical reason, and her 4 year old interpreted this as jumping.
No anchor was set, as the boat drifted.
So sorry for all.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | July 9, 2020 7:34 AM |
Maybe she was in a horrible emotional state. Could’ve been fighting with someone (text or call) and was upset, dropped the phone in the water and jumped in to get it? And somehow drowned. Still more likely a suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 9, 2020 7:36 AM |
She clearly didn't kill herself. What the fuck is wrong with you delusional queens?
by Anonymous | reply 124 | July 9, 2020 7:38 AM |
She could have been jumping out of the boat first before getting her son into the water, she could have been retrieving something.

[Quote] She clearly didn't kill herself.

by Anonymous | reply 126 | July 9, 2020 7:39 AM |
Why does suicide get your back up?
by Anonymous | reply 127 | July 9, 2020 7:39 AM |
Oh, yes. She could've dropped the kid off with family or his father, but it's much more likely that she took him to a lake, rented a boat, went to the middle of the lake and killed herself in front of her 4 year old. That is definitely much more likely than slipping, falling and hitting your head. Bunch of regular Hercule Poirots up in this joint.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | July 9, 2020 7:39 AM |
Probably misjudged the water's depth and hit her head.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | July 9, 2020 7:40 AM |
You don't need to protect Naya Rivera from speculation. You can't.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | July 9, 2020 7:40 AM |
It sounds like she was trying to grab something she dropped, since the boat wasn't stopped or anchored and her son had a vest on.
If she had killed herself there would have been clear signs, and if there were clear signs she wouldn't be labeled as "missing" right now. Evidence would be published.
by Anonymous | reply 131 | July 9, 2020 7:40 AM |
She loved that kid. No way would she jump to kill herself and leave the kid alone on a boat in the middle of a lake.
The suicide troll is trying her best, tho.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | July 9, 2020 7:41 AM |
The didn't anchor the boat. She took off her life jacket. But she was "only" going for a swim? Or She dropped her phone and after taking off her life jacket, she tried to retrieve it?

It could be an accident. It could be suicide. Until there is strong evidence one way or the other...shrug.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | July 9, 2020 7:44 AM |
If she did kill herself then she's the best secret keeper in history. Have none of you idiots ever taken a psychology class before? There's always signs when someone is suicidal, and if there aren't then there are signs to be found after they kill themselves.
If she killed herself then some form of evidence that she was planning to or considering it would have been found by now.
by Anonymous | reply 140 | July 9, 2020 7:45 AM |
She may have faked her death for the insurance money. People should keep eye out for her living the high life in Tijuana.

Not likely. If she had of swam to shore and passed out or something they would have found her a long time ago.
My personal feeling is, she dove in after something (hence leaving behind the life jacket) since she thought she'd quickly be able to get back in and couldn't get back into the boat. I wouldn't be surprised if she had random medical problem and that was it.
I was actually just giving her props for not saying anything when Lea was getting roasted a few weeks ago as if she'd moved on from all of it and was just off living her life.

From an old article about drownings there:
[quote]Sheriff’s spokesman Eric Nishimoto said currents on the lake were strong Tuesday. And after a 1997 drowning, park officials speculated that wind gusts and deep columns of chilly water on the lake, which is up to 160 feet deep depending on the time of year, can overtake swimmers quickly. “I know it can get rough out there,” Nishimoto said.
[quote]West cautioned that the lake’s swimming beach is clearly marked and other parts of the lake are posted off-limits to swimming for grim reasons.
[quote]“The only thing I can emphasize is that if swimmers are around water, they need to wear a personal flotation device whether they know how to swim or not,” he said. “That will save their lives.”

[Quote] the lake is in a cool area, not too far from LA, not too crowded, lots of wildlife and a pretty drive once you get off of the freeway. I can see why she would take her child there, if she really wanted a quiet time away. Every other nicer spot is usually packed and that gets old.
[Quote] the weird thing is that they swam in the lake as it’s very stagnant water. I’d never get in it. No one goes there to swim. They fish, they bbq, they may camp out but no one goes there to swim.
[Quote] I’ve been to that exact same spot In the picture but the lake is a decent size and most likely They were in the open part. However it’s not THAT big and I’m sure they circled it at least a couple of times. Not sure why they couldn’t find her but as I said the water is extremely stagnant/brackish. Also the woods are kinda thick up there in some spots so she could easily wandered into them and could have been kidnapped or is hiding out....
[Quote] All in all it is a strange place to go with your 4 year old but at the same time LA crowds are awful and especially now, it could have been a nice l, super quiet day but getting in that water doesn’t make too much sense.

I once read that when women kill their own babies/children, it's often in a water-related method because psychologically, it's like they're trying to return the baby to the womb.
Think Susan Smith, Andrea Yates, Heidi Anfinson, those two crazy dykes who drove their van with their kids off a cliff into the ocean, etc. Not only that but throughout Chinese history, drowning was the traditional method of killing unwanted baby girls.

[quote] She unfollowed Lea.
WTF? Why did she follow Lea in the first place? There was some serious bad blood between them on the Glee set. I can't see them getting past that. Especially with Lea still being a mean girl behind the scenes.
I think it was a photo op gone wrong. Her smartphone slipped into the water, she jumped after it and a current or some sea weed kept her underwater, and she drowned. Though the lake is quite deep so sea weed may not have been the cause depending where the boat was when the incident happened.
by Anonymous | reply 192 | July 9, 2020 8:21 AM |

I kinda doubted the phone theory, but the fact that the life vest was in the boat kinda goes along with that scenario. She couldn’t get very deep while wearing it.

All the reports so far have said that her son saw her jump into the water, and didn’t come back up. Nothing about her trying to get back into the boat, struggling or crying out for help. A 4-year-old would be able to report if she had.
I’m with those who think she jumped in to retrieve something and hit her head or got tangled in something.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | July 9, 2020 9:22 AM |
Whether they found her phone in the boat could be a clue. If it isn’t found, she may Gabe accidentally dropped it and went in after it. I grew up swimming on the Long Island sound and lakes scare me. People drown in lakes without an undertow or rip currents. A friend of mine drowned in a lake and he could swim like a fish. Lakes freak me out.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | July 9, 2020 9:22 AM |
If the lake is 160 feet deep with brackish water, of course the investigators should wait a day to see if she floats to the surface before sending a team of divers into the murk. Who knows what else is lurking in the depths.

Angelenos are used to ocean water and chlorinated pools - they’re often not prepared for less buoyant lake water, which is harder to float in.
Also, those who are skeptical about her diving after her phone, you would not believe the stupid things people do when they drop them. (Source: friend who is an EMT). One lady got stuck in storm drain trying to retrieve hers. It’s as if lose their damn minds.

Bingo! Caught red handed, Naya is/ was a PsyOps by TPTB. They left their calling card (think of a mob hit where they leave a canary in the victim's mouth to let everyone know he was a snitch). Look at the police car numbers at the scene in OP's picture. The car numbers are: 171, 227 & 223, which numerically add up to "33" (1+7+1+2+2x7+2+2x3=33). Grab a calculator and count it for yourself.
Lea Michele, who is 33, just took a scripted ritual hit to her career. Naya "drowns" at age 33. This is another elaborate chess game (think of the movie "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy) by the people who run this planet, ahead of some major announcement. None of what is going on in the world now is happening organically. Who else here sees what's going on?

I hope it was an accident. She was a striking young woman before she started with the cosmetic work. I always thought she was sort of a classic Hollywood tragedy.... made it, but not by much, then it went away with a lot of years ahead of her. It's quite sad, whatever happened. Doubly so if she took her own life. These are hard and fucked up times.

The sad thing is it isn't that hard to keep working... you just can't be picky about it... it's always surprising to me how many people are still doing something... voice overs, Branson, whatever... it won't be a network series or a major film set but there's work if you must have that kind of work. Somebody should create the Norma Desmond Center for Career Counselling to guide these damaged souls.

What the hell is even going on with R298?
by Anonymous | reply 309 | July 9, 2020 12:52 PM |
I spent a lot of summers on a pontoon that neighbors owned on a nearby lake, and I was probably about the same age as Naya's boy the first time I went out. It's a really nice way to spend time on the water, very calm, and distanced from others also out on the lake. I don't see anything wrong with her taking her son out there and don't quite understand why people are blaming her for "being careless" or "not social distancing."
by Anonymous | reply 310 | July 9, 2020 12:55 PM |
Reading through the coverage (yeah, I know), apparently she was a very strong swimmer. Easy to miscalculate currents in an unfamiliar body of water.

[quote]don't quite understand why people are blaming her for "being careless" or "not social distancing."
Becase - and this may be a lesson in life for you- most people talk before they think and they don't think much because they're so stupid.

My first thought was “murder-suicide”. So it’s a relief that the little boy is alive. My heart goes out to him.
While not common, it does happen that women kill their children and themselves. Assia Wevill is a quite horrific example, there are plenty of recent examples.
This woman was obviously troubled. I remember reading things about her on Dlisted and feeling very sorry for her. She was a hot mess. Hopefully she’s at peace, and I hope someone who’s mentally healthy will raise that poor child. Her choices in men weren’t terrific.

A pontoon boat is basically just a raft with seats and (sometimes) an engine. There’s nothing particularly risky or strange about swimming off one. It’s entirely possible she just wanted to take a dip and a freak accident happened; the murder/suicide speculation is a little “MARY!”

by Anonymous | reply 323 | July 9, 2020 1:24 PM |
Even the hot wrestler who drowned on accident handed his son over to a lifeguard before he was swept out to sea. She clearly was not in the right state of mind leaving her son the boat alone.
by Anonymous | reply 325 | July 9, 2020 1:27 PM |
R322, the article I read said her wallet/ID were in the boat. I'd wait for a full police report before clutching those pearls.
by Anonymous | reply 326 | July 9, 2020 1:27 PM |
R322 It's not just the purse. It's the fact that she would go out on a boat alone with just her son, the fact that he had life vest and she did not, the fact that she had only hours earlier left a very prescient social media message...
Connecting the dots.

by Anonymous | reply 329 | July 9, 2020 1:32 PM |
[quote]the murder/suicide speculation is a little “MARY!”
My cousin's wife drowned their two kids and herself when I was young. Maybe that's why I don't see it being outlandish since it really does happen.
If she really was a strong swimmer the chances of her disappearance being deliberate get higher, either by herself or someone else. It's a real possibility she was attacked by someone who killed her, or hopefully only abducted her. That said since she's been apparently having mental issues suicide is not out of the question at all.
So many questions. Why oh why would she take her kid there if she was planning to kill herself? Maybe it was a freak accident.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | July 9, 2020 1:34 PM |
I don’t know if this was intentional or not but a responsible mother or adult for that matter would not go out alone on a boat with a young child.
Kids that age require a lot of supervision and there is no way you can enjoy a swim knowing that you need to keep an eye on the kid to prevent an accident.
by Anonymous | reply 331 | July 9, 2020 1:36 PM |
Yeah telling the story to my mom and sister (who is also a mom herself) and they both immediately go “where was the second adult? Youd never in a million years go out on a boat with a 4 year old alone.”

If she was still alive and they searched the area around the boat for several hours, I guess they would have found her already.

by Anonymous | reply 344 | July 9, 2020 2:15 PM |
that's what I was thinking r337. It is a pontoon boat. She may not have been planning to let the boy in the water and if she went after something, she might have thought the pontoon boat would go far. I know it could, but a regular boat would have drifted away faster. She probably thought the pontoon boat would have been safer since it was just the two of them.

Naya would never fake her death and leave her child behind. She would've used a river or ocean to make sure her "both have fallen overboard" stunt leads to suspicion of drowning while their corpses are not found. With a high profile case people do work a lot harder to find the bodies. And these bodies can't go anywhere in a man made lake.

A 4 year old can easily misremember a sequence of events or not quite represent them accurately. They will understand key details but perhaps not exactly what went down and the order and won’t necessarily be able to tell that back perfectly. Maybe they were swimming earlier, got back in the boat, Naya got back in the water alone for some reason.
I have no idea what type of mother Rivera is but the most likely scenarios are accident or suicide. Some mothers do kill themselves in front of their children but it’s fairly unusual.

If Rivera wanted to kill herself she could simply leave the child with family and check herself into a nice hotel and do herself in quietly. She has no way of knowing when the child would be found, or if harm would come to him while she’s busy killing herself. She doesn’t need to be mother of the year for me to think it’s an unlikely scenario.

Maybe she was swimming with her boy, they got back in the boat, she took off her life jacket, her phone somehow slipped into the water, she quickly goes back in to retrieve it without the life jacket, she gets a leg cramp and can't get herself to swim back to the boat and get in, and drowns.
by Anonymous | reply 424 | July 9, 2020 4:01 PM |
It’s all a launch for AHS:The TV Series Curse, presented by Ryan Murphy and in her comeback role Naya Rivera. Members of an ensemble high school musical show with a revenge wig shitting diva slowly die and go missing one by one over the years as a final destination curse is revealed.
Ben Platt stars as a heterosexual singing football quarterback Tinn Eastriver and Lea Michelle as irascible Hannah Melon. Many clues lead to the murderer being Andrew Cunanan (Darren Criss reprising his award winning role) after he falls in love with gay make-up fashionista Hans Preciousmoments played by newcomer James Charles and transfers to the school. But lesbian killer tropes emerge that it might be cheerleaders Carlos (Naya) and Ariana (Britney Spears), but it’s not ruled out that that it might be female or male Asian (Akwafina and Henry Golding) or aging Broadway Divas (Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli) jealous of the young people’s talent.

Before she drown if conscious she would have said something to her child. If the kid remembered her jumping he would have remembered that.
The cop said the kid was a girl.
When there is a death involving a divorced couple the motive is almost always custody of the child.

by Anonymous | reply 427 | July 9, 2020 4:04 PM |
No one seems to be considering that the child is actually precociously intelligent and evil, a "Good Son" type.
She was likely taking the child out to drown him as she saw this future horror from him, but he ended up pushing her overboard and speeding away. Her cries and struggles until she eventually succumbed to the waters gave him odd pleasure that he doesn't understand now but will recall later when he strangles his first homeless person.

The kid is called “Josey” and pics online will show him with long hair at times, plus he’s four years old. Unless kids are dressed or styled particularly male or female, then without they themselves identifying their sex or their parents telling you, it’s not always immediately obvious at that age whether they’re boys or girls. The police obviously weren’t Glee fans and simply assumed he was a girl from his name and presentation.

I agree that it was a botched murder-suicide, especially considering her final Tweet, which is a picture of her and her son captioned "just the two of us," like it's a farewell for both of them. Coupled with the 'life's too short' tweet from a few days ago, that sounds like a suicide note to me. She got out on the water and couldn't bear to harm the child, but she couldn't bear to go on, either. So she left him safe and sound on the boat, took off her life jacket, and slipped into the murky waters. Tragic.

The whole scenario of taking a boat out, alone, with a small child, screams murder/suicide. What kind of fun would a single mom have on a boat with her 4-year old child and no one else? Does that sound like a nice relaxing day to you, operating a boat AND watching a 4-year old, alone on the water? If she wanted to enjoy herself, she would need at least one other person to help with some of these duties. If she wanted to swim and relax alone, she would have hired a baby sitter.
If both options, either a companion or a babysitter, were unworkable, I think any other person would have changed their plans. I think there would have been a lot of signs before this if she really was the type of parent to plan on leaving a 4 year old alone on a boat while she took a swim. This wasn't a day out for mom and baby; she had a plan, and in the end she could only go through with half of it.

The article posted by r338 is very illuminating. The lake apparently has clearly defined swimming areas and the rest is restricted due to the potential risk of drowning, even for experienced swimmers (flotation devices are a must). I hope we get more information about where the boat was found drifting in relation to the swim regions. If they are somehow able to retrieve her cell phone (a stretch) and miraculously able to extract photos (a bigger stretch), surely there will have been some taken on the boat yesterday that could give a better idea of location and timing.

England is foreign, yes, but Broadway and the West End are basically almost the exact same thing in different cities albeit thousands of miles apart. This whole story is odd; if you had a comfort with boats, I could see taking the kid out to cool off, but it sounds like it's not really an area for swimming - it's nasty, brackish water - a big e-coli soup. Plus, it seems strange she didn't bring her phone. If she ran out of gas or had engine problems - not uncommon with boats - how would she contact someone for help?
Given the weird circumstances her social media posts, it doesn't seem unreasonable to assume even if it wasn't a deliberate suicide, she was depressed, maybe on something & not thinking clearly. Though that said, I can't for the life of me figure out why that Kennedy woman took her kid (with no lifejacket) to go after a damn ball & she clearly wasn't suicidal- so I guess the simple answer is that people are stupid

Not really, all the "Glee kids" were young.

The would be if Mark Salling had something to do with it.

Yeah I found that kind of weird too R533. She is a single mother, she will do lots of activities just her and her son. A young woman who is fit and strong can row a rowboat on a lake, and it’s not usually dangerous.

[quote]How hard could it be to find a body in a lake if they know the location of the boat?
As R523 said, the boat drifted. Also, “lake” Piru is a murky reservoir reaching depths of 160 feet with vegetation and discarded junk on the bottom. They are giving the body a day or two to resurface rather than risk the lives of recovery divers over a corpse. Hopefully she did not get tangled onto a submerged object.
The idiots on Twitter complaining about authorities not immediately dragging the lake probably should never go out on a boat alone. They are as clueless as the urbanites who drowned after thinking that swimming alone without a lifejacket in a garbage-filled reservoir was a good idea.

This is unbelievable! I’ve been watching the Glee series, since the government lock-down, and have been watching Season 3 where Naya’s character comes out. So ironic and tragic to read this. It does kind of make you wonder about the Glee curse. Naya was wonderful as Santana.

Yes, it was a set of young people tracked together for long hours. They were all fucking each other r539. Ryan Murpy described it like this.
[quote]"It was the best time in my life and the worst time in my life," he told Entertainment Weekly, going on to admit, "There was a lot of infighting. There was a lot of people sleeping together and breaking up. It was good training for being a parent, I'll tell you that much."

I wonder if she was accidentally hit by another boater? People get run over by boaters all the time on lakes.

Read this at Wikipedia. Maybe something similar happened to her.
[quote] Naftoli Smolyanksy died in a boating accident in August 2008. Smolyansky had taken his 9-year-old son and 5 and 7-year-old daughters out on the lake Monday afternoon when his youngest daughter fell off the boat. He jumped into the water to save her, and managed to get her back on the boat as it drifted away. Smolyanksy was unable to swim to the boat and did not resurface.

They really should instate a rule where there must be two adults on a boat when accompanying a child under say 10. This is a prime example that if something happens to the lone adult, the child will be left alone and vulnerable.

Swimming in dammed reservoirs is particularly dangerous. Water tends to be cold (yes, even near LA) and there is machinery and there can be strong currents thanks to pipes and machinery under the water.

According to Wikipedia, the lake appears to be a death trap:
In August 1994, 27-year-old Jesus Danilo Carranza from North Hollywood drowned while on an outing with his family despite wearing a life jacket. [12]
In July 1997, Liborio Dominguez from Long Beach drowned while trying to rescue his daughter. The young girl was saved, but Dominguez’s body was not discovered until several days later. [12]
In September 1997, 22-year-old Isidro Castillo from Newhall encountered problems while swimming and called for his girlfriend to throw him a buoy. The woman was unable to get the flotation device to him. His body was found a day later. [12]
In September 1997, rescue workers recovered the body of 30-year-old Port Hueneme resident Ulises Anthony Mendoza, who was last seen struggling days earlier while swimming with family members near their boat.[12]
In 1997, park officials speculated that wind gusts and deep columns of chilly water on the lake, which is up to 160 ft deep depending on the time of year, can overtake swimmers quickly. [12]
In February 1998, the body of Lake Piru employee Arthur Raymond Caladara was found drowned near the dock. [12]
In June 1998, the body of 30-year-old Vy Xuan Dang from Garden Grove, who disappeared while swimming with his family during the Memorial Day weekend, was found by a park ranger.
In September 2000, 25-year-old Van Nuys resident Edie Cruz, swam the short distance to his stalled radio-controlled model boat, and drowned only 10 feet from shore. Douglas West, Lake Piru’s parks and recreation services manager, said there had been about a dozen drownings during his 23 years at the lake. Most victims are inexperienced swimmers who are not wearing life jackets and who overestimate their own abilities or swim in prohibited areas. [12]
Naftoli Smolyanksy died in a boating accident in August 2008. [13]
On July 8th, 2020, actress Naya Rivera disappeared while swimming with her son. As of July 9th, a search of the lake is ongoing.

If you’re taking your 4-year old on a boat ride, you bring stuff. Water bottle, snacks, a bathing suit if you plan to swim, sunblock, a hat. It’s basic parent stuff.
If she didn’t have a bag with those things, she didn’t plan on them coming back.
