Tom Hanks: Greyhound
Tom Hanks never really bothered me until I saw his reactions to Ricky Gervais as host at the 2020 Golden Globes. (Hanks was grimacing, clutching his pearls, etc.)
Now, this trailer for "Greyhound" is out. Hanks as bad-ass Navy Commander in charge of young military guys (looking bewildered, etc.).
I don't understand how Hanks gets these roles. (He wrote write the screen play for "Greyhound." Maybe he demanded the he be cast in the Navy Commander role.)

He was better in comedic roles, but he was never all that great in those, either. Steve Martin and Billy Crystal and Bill Murray all had the class to (semi)retire, why is he still hanging around?

WAY too old for the role, even for the slow promotion pre-war Navy.

I haven’t seen the Scully or that other Oscar bait movie but I loved him as Mr Rogers.

He tends to engage in a particular gross, sappy American sentimentalism that is very off-putting. It's pretty much his brand.

We need a "Bosom Buddies" reboot. Kip and Henry, still living together.

That was the same for me OP. That aghast look on his face. What a prude and drama queen he is.

Despite attempting to push it away or rationalize, I get a chilling, creepy vibe from Tom Hanks.
I intuit there is something hidden and dark involving this soul.
