Why is Columbus in Marconi Plaza, and not Marconi!

What's a "gravy seal"?

I think cancelling Columbus is a stretch. Why not teach and appreciate him in context?
He's not an important part of United States history. He's a part of Western History.
Thanksgiving is understood in fairytale terms. Let's cancel that!
No, better. Let's learn the true history behind our symbol people and events.
Fortunately there are no statues of the Prophet Mohammed.

What exactly is the point of removing Columbus?
It's not like most of the descendants of the Mayflower will ever undo his mapped itinerary and sail back to Plymouth...
I'd guess that for First Nation people - the problem is no longer Columbus, but the more daily reminder that they're outnumbered in North America by European-descent people, and that no First Nation person was ever elected President of the territory that should have been theirs...

They’ve cancelled Columbo? Does Peter Falk know? Let’s get Liza and Liz on the line for their reaction.

R6 What’s the point of having statues of Columbus? He didn’t discover shit, that land had been discovered thousands of years before and he was trash.

R6, there's not a lot of them around to be reminded, is there?

r3 Marconi is across Broad Street from Chris.
The statue has been boxed in since the 1st protest march. I pass there several mornings a week, and there's usually a police SUV, parked on the median strip on Broad Street. Yesterday morning, the SUV was replaced with a standard police car, and it was parked as close to the statue as one could get.
Removal of the statue is going to be controversial, and will cause a lot of bad feelings and a lot of grumbling.
