Ridiculous. There are studies equating a man's dislike of a cat to a dislike of women, that men prefer dogs because dogs can be controlled and cats are independent. A certain percentage of women are allergic to cats or just don’t like them. No surprise that being pictured with a cat (as opposed to with no pet) reduced the number of women interested.

How I feel about this study.

I've noticed that men with cats will have only one pic of them with the cat in their profile. Men with dogs will have multiple pics of them with their dogs.

I can see how a cat person would be too much.

Guys who own only cats tend to be strange and anti-social, where as guys who own dogs are friendlier and active.

I do not like cats. I don't care for the litter box, the chasing the cat around, the scratching, and just their overall demeanor. Now, I'm not a hater. I've met some very good cats, but they were "the cats who act like dogs." I much rather see a photo of James Middleton with dogs than in a room with cats. It's a turn off.

Dogs are loud, slobbery, high-maintenance (constantly having to take them for walks and pick up their poop and they pee on everything, and dear god do they smell).

I'll take a nice clean, self-maintaining cat any day of the week.

I like dogs, but man, when I pet them, I can smell dog on my hand. The exception was my friend's Husky, which she would wash once a week.

I've always thought this too! Straight guys and their weird love affair with dogs, to the point that they're known as "Man's Best Friend," borders on creepy to me. Anybody who would rule out a potential mate because of their pet is not somebody I would want to meet in the first place. And I say that as a dog person. If I fell for a guy, I would end up loving his cat as if it were my own.

I was the exact opposite when I used those dating apps. If I saw a picture of someone with a dog, I stayed away. I find dogs to be obnoxious, loud, hyper, clingy, needy attention whores. I am just not a fan of them at all.

I have a dog and a cat, and I love them both in different ways. Both are litterbox trained, both are affectionate, but the dog is usually happier to see me, while the cat is less showy in her affection, but is more likely to crawl in my lap and fall asleep. The cat does NOT like the dog.

If someone didn't want to date me because of either of them, I would be happy to know that up front before wasting my time, because they were here first, and they aren't going anywhere - until it is their time.

I also have a cockatiel, and while he is smart, funny, and affectionate, I will NEVER have another bird, as he is just the messiest thing on Earth. He is 16 years old, so he could easily be around for 5 to 10 more years.
