Love how in the first episode of Beaver he just yells all his lines. Thanks to Chiller I have met Tony Dow and Billy Gray.

Grady was probably more traditionally handsome. But Tony Dow was hotter
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 21, 2020 10:30 PM |
Dow actually looks pretty dapper and healthy for 75. Still has most of his hair. Snowy white. And a neatly-trimmed beard. Skin looks fairly clear. Bright eyes. Not too overweight. Bonus he can still stand up straight and walk on his own accord.
Having taken my own 76-year old neighbor to the Senior Center here in Santa Monica, I can tell you the elderly women there would kill for a guy who looks like Dow.

Equally handsome.

Dow looks better than The Beaver, who needs to buy a suit that fits.

R11 Here's some legs for you from last August.

Tony Dow had that late ‘50s/early ‘60s, wholesome but a touch of James Dean vibe. Don Grady had the wholesome ‘60s/before hippies/Vietnam War vibe. They were both cute and somewhat teen idols but without a great deal of sexuality. Both shows represented different eras.

Fun fact: Tony Dow played Sarah Jessica Parker's character's father on "Square Pegs" (he broke her heart by not allowing her to get contact lenses until she was older, or to attend the annual ice skating party at school hosted by "Children of Computer Programmers").

Here's a photo of Don Grady. Died in 2012 at age 68. This is the most "aged" looking photo of Grady I could find.

I believe the proper term is "sire."

What a doll. Tony made my Dow Jones Industrial Average rise bullishly hard.

When I was a young gayling, I wanted Tony Dow to take my virginity.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 22, 2020 1:43 AM |
When Don Grady was in the hospital in December 2011, he posted this photo to FB saying his son told him someone wanted to know what he looked like. He passed away six months later.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 22, 2020 2:06 AM |
And Grady also had a photo of him and Tony from 2009.
(I think Tony looks better now -- probably some weight loss, and his beard is becoming.)

I saw Tony Dow as Birdie at Cain Park in Cleveland in 1965-ish
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 22, 2020 2:20 AM |
Oh my God. He was my childhood crush. That show was really big in reruns in the 70’s
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 22, 2020 2:28 AM |
Tony did one photo shoot that was quite creepy. This is one shot from it.
Icky vibe.

It’s amazing how men have to go through the look like rough trade process. Simon Nessman is the new Tony Dow

I'd have taken Grady over Dow any day. I always thought Dow had kind of a pig snout nose.

[quote] I always thought Dow had kind of a pig snout nose.
There was even an episode, 'Wally's Pug Nose; (1959) where he sends away for some sort of contraption you wear at night to give you a "Roman nose' because he thought some uppity girl on whom he had a crush hated his pug nose. Ward tried to make it a teachable moment about self-esteem, but it was all forgotten when Wally found out that the girl actually liked his 'cute little pug nose' and the nose shaping device ends up in the trash.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 22, 2020 3:15 AM |
"Gee, Ward, you were awfully hard on the Wally last night" just has a completely different appeal to it.

I remember reading an article back in the 90s where Dow talked about his lifelong struggles with depression. I was dealing with depression at the time and it actually helped learning that someone who from appearances would have nothing to be depressed about struggled like I did and dealt with it successfully. (I know that sentence is a mess but hopefully you get my meaning.)

I watched 'Beaver' in reruns in the '70s as a teenager. He was the first actor I imagined who masturbated.

Here is the premiere episode of the teen soap opera he did in the 1960s that costarred Tommy Rettig of Lassie, Never Too Young. He looks quite nice in it, and I was surprised that a daytime soap, at that time, did so much outdoor filming.

Tony was on an episode of Adam 12 that played last week, or the week before on MeTV, which is required daily viewing in my house. He played a young military guy in uniform and I must say, he was hot as hell.

[quote]He played a young military guy in uniform and I must say, he was hot as hell.
He actually joined the National Guard *after* his success. I remember reading on another thread someone's account of being in the National Guard with him. And saying he was a very nice person who sought no special attention. But that three of them had gone to the movies one night and the other guy disappeared for a while. He turned up with a young guy. And Dow seemed very jealous, but he wasn't sure of whom. After they left the theater Dow, the other Guy and the young guy went off together. The fourth guy followed them. They went to a park and did blow jobs. With Dow being on the receiving end.
I didn't believe the story. But then did discover that Dow had been in the National Guard at the time of the story. But who knows.

[quote] They went to a park and did blow jobs. With Dow being on the receiving end.
After finding out that once he reached adulthood Johnny Crawford was pimping boys out to Chuck Connors so he could have his way with them, nothing about Hollywood actors would surprise me.
Frankly, I have always thought that in the right circumstances and with the right motivations 75% (or more) of men could be coaxed into some sex action with another male, if only to be on the receiving end of a blow job. You get a straight man horny enough and most of them will get to the point of not caring whose mouth is sucking on them. A warm mouth is a warm mouth. All it takes is one experience for most of them to see what they've been missing and want more. Being in the movie industry in Hollywood (especially from an early age) undoubtedly provides a huge amount of temptations to guys on a daily basis. I think most any guy would have his inhibitions worn down being in that environment for a long time.

r73, that story was posted on this blogspot which seems rife with fan fiction.

Most of the beefcake photos of Tony Dow were from photo shoots taken for magazines. That is how they promoted both the actors and the TV shows back then.
