DL fave Julia Phillips

Did you know her son in law is a mega-famous Hollywood producer? He runs Media Rights Capital, which recently purchased the Hollywood Reporter. Here's a picture of her with Narty Scorsese, in her heyday, before her life came crashing down, in 1977 or so...

Loved her. One of 30 people I would love to sit down with for an hour and chat with.

by Anonymousreply 1June 17, 2020 1:20 AM

r1, did you know her personally?

by Anonymousreply 2June 17, 2020 1:21 AM

Sorry R2. Hell no. I meant that she is one of 30 people I would have loved to sit down with and chat in my lifetime-

She appeared to be extremely intelligent, sarcastic, and ballsy. She would be a blast to hang with.

That is why I liked her book. She was clearly extremely intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 3June 17, 2020 1:24 AM

Yes but damaged as heck and filled with so much anger. You have to wonder why. She had a charmed life.

by Anonymousreply 4June 17, 2020 1:28 AM

All anyone remembers about her book was that she called Goldie Hawn “borderline dirty.” Some exposé.

by Anonymousreply 5June 17, 2020 1:32 AM

Her book was a bile-stained gossip fest!

by Anonymousreply 6June 17, 2020 1:35 AM

Oh, that Narty! He's such a gadabout!

by Anonymousreply 7June 17, 2020 1:38 AM

Julia Phillips' book is an excellent read. She was a very compelling writer and I especially enjoyed the Brooklyn kid of immigrant parents stuff at the beginning. What becomes clear is that she was just a shitty person who made very poor decisions. She doesn't really spare herself in the book, but I found myself cheering for her downfall because she was an awful person.

Bumppp

by Anonymousreply 9June 17, 2020 2:53 AM

Horrible woman. She was a Hollywood producer so maybe that was to be expected.

by Anonymousreply 10June 17, 2020 4:16 AM

Harumph. Phillips wasn't a 'shitty' or 'horrible' person. She seemed like a good person to me tho with a smart mouth (and later pen). She genuinely loved her daughter and loved making movies before getting elbowed out by the boys in in the 70s, then by the bankers in Hollywood in the 80s.

Jennifer Lawrence should play her in the inevitable movie.

by Anonymousreply 12June 17, 2020 5:10 AM

I always thought Selma Blair should have played her...

by Anonymousreply 13June 17, 2020 5:41 AM

Her booze coke habit didn't endear her to many.

by Anonymousreply 14June 17, 2020 6:04 AM

Was she a lesbian? Or at leas part time?

by Anonymousreply 15June 17, 2020 6:06 AM

*least

by Anonymousreply 16June 17, 2020 6:06 AM

She lived in Benedict Canyon.

by Anonymousreply 17June 19, 2020 2:18 PM

R14, who didn’t have a booze coke habit in the 70s and 80s.

by Anonymousreply 18June 19, 2020 2:21 PM

Her son in law? SHE was the mega Hollywood producer of the 70s

by Anonymousreply 19June 19, 2020 2:24 PM

Her son-in-law is Modi Wiczyk, who now rules Tinseltown...

by Anonymousreply 20June 19, 2020 2:38 PM

Meh. A suit. Julia was the megawatt producer of some of the most important films of American cinema.

by Anonymousreply 21June 19, 2020 2:42 PM

I wouldn’t say he ruled Tinseltown, r20. His production company has had a lot of success, but they also produced a lot of duds.

I read the book years and said pretty nasty things about Cybill Shepard and Kathleen Turner. Wouldn't mind reading it again.

by Anonymousreply 23June 19, 2020 2:51 PM

You can sense Liza just out of frame hoovering up rails.

by Anonymousreply 24June 19, 2020 2:51 PM

He seems incredibly high-powered. I wonder what her daughter is like, growing up in that chaotic environment. WHET her producer ex-husbo?

by Anonymousreply 25June 19, 2020 2:52 PM

Are you apt to say pretty nasty things about Cybill Shepherd and Kathleen Turner when you finish reading a book?

by Anonymousreply 26June 19, 2020 2:53 PM

Where's Julia Phillips hater David Ehrenstein?

by Anonymousreply 27June 19, 2020 5:06 PM

Narty Scorsese -- Acclaimed director of Neam Streets

by Anonymousreply 28June 19, 2020 5:20 PM

I read the book years ago. I was excellent. Would recommended to anyone who enjoys good Hollywood gossip & History.

by Anonymousreply 29June 19, 2020 5:28 PM

BUMP for Hollywood juice!
