In several countries, wearing clothing with representations of the national flag is considered offensive and is sometimes illegal.

I normally think it's too loud and distracting but the version in the OP photo looks tastefully done.

In the 60s it was considered offensive to wear the flag in your clothing, especially if you sat down on it. Those shorts and pants had to go.

Doesn't that just mean that a flag should not be used as clothing, i.e., using an actual flag as clothing or to create an article of clothing out of a flag? America, like other countries, has its flaws. Americans, unlike many other people, have the capacity to look inward and criticize themselves. The media makes fun of Americans constantly (both deservingly and undeservingly). The media in other countries don't do that. And I've heard Europeans criticize America for being racist constantly yet very few of them have the ability to admit to the prevalent racism in their own countries.

Room 222 had an episode about this back in the 60s. One of the students was wearing a flag on his jeans, IIRC, and an immigrant adult took issue with the lack of respect for the flag. I avoid Stars-and-Stripes designs personally, but I'm 59.
