Are these considered problematic now? I own board shorts like the one in this photo and a lawn chair with the American Flag on it.
Sweet fucking baby Christ, why would you own or wear such shit?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 14, 2020 6:41 PM |
In several countries, wearing clothing with representations of the national flag is considered offensive and is sometimes illegal.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 14, 2020 6:45 PM |
I normally think it's too loud and distracting but the version in the OP photo looks tastefully done.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 14, 2020 6:48 PM |
I presume anyone wearing American flag material these days is a MAGAt
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 14, 2020 7:05 PM |
In the 60s it was considered offensive to wear the flag in your clothing, especially if you sat down on it. Those shorts and pants had to go.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 14, 2020 7:28 PM |
It's a sign of trashy people, for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 14, 2020 7:31 PM |
I think wearing your flag on your clothes is trashy no matter where youre from. I cringe when Canadians do this too.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 14, 2020 7:37 PM |
The belongs to all of us. I hate that being an American is now a disgrace to us decent people.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 14, 2020 7:40 PM |
The US
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 14, 2020 7:41 PM |
Wearing the flag as clothing has always been disrespectful
Non-deplorables know this.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 14, 2020 7:43 PM |
These people are literally shitting on the flag yet they have a problem with people kneeling while respecting it... 🤔
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 14, 2020 7:46 PM |
Bad taste. Tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 14, 2020 8:20 PM |
Per the US flag code, it is not supposed to be worn on clothing. Pre 1972, Karen would have called the manager on you at the Piggly Wiggly for flag desecration.
But this particular social mores changed instantly after Mark Spitz.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 14, 2020 8:36 PM |
[quote]Per the US flag code, it is not supposed to be worn on clothing.
Doesn't that just mean that a flag should not be used as clothing, i.e., using an actual flag as clothing or to create an article of clothing out of a flag? That doesn't mean that red and white stripes and stars on a blue field can't be used in the design of an article of clothing. And besides, the US flag code is not legally binding. It's merely a code for flag etiquette.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 14, 2020 9:13 PM |
It means it’s enshrined in code that it’s tacky
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 14, 2020 9:20 PM |
Board shorts?
Have you given up completely? Trunks and sqaure cuts are so much more fashionable.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 14, 2020 9:25 PM |
Problematic, no. Ugly as hell, yes.
But go ahead and rock that Stars and Stripes bikini at your family cookout, op. Let your ass hang out to show how much you love your country.
Fucking idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 14, 2020 9:39 PM |
Only appropriate on a hot shirtless redneck.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 14, 2020 9:55 PM |
What about on upholstery, towels, bed covers?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 14, 2020 10:15 PM |
R14, Wearing the flag or flag clothing was considered disrespectful and provocative. When worn by long-haired,-hippy -type -pinko -fags, it was worn on the ass as a political statement to upset the "squares". Once Old Glory cupped Mark Spitz's hairy balls, the "America, love it or leave it" crowd could no longer claim an ass patch on a pair of Levi's was disrespectful.
In 1968, Abbie Hoffman was arrested for flag desecration.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 14, 2020 10:19 PM |
I am literally R22. LMAO!
I have t-shirts and socks with the American flag, and I’m not throwing them out.
The civil and peaceful protesters denouncing the police aren’t doing so because this is a flag issue. This is a police brutality issue.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 14, 2020 11:16 PM |
It's not problematic but I think any country's flag on clothing looks stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 14, 2020 11:20 PM |
I have a stars and stripes umbrella. Does that count?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 14, 2020 11:23 PM |
R26, it's a shame he's a Nazi, he has a "I'll fuck you for days" look about him.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 14, 2020 11:28 PM |
[quote] The civil and peaceful protesters denouncing the police aren’t doing so because this is a flag issue. This is a police brutality issue.
The messaging has become quite muddled. It's odd that people would be so gung ho on silent protest when the internet has given everyone a giant bullhorn.

If you operate from the premise that the United States was never that great and is foundationally racist, then what other solution is there but to start from scratch?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 14, 2020 11:34 PM |
I'm with R4. Anyone who needs to scream how American they are, I assume the worst. The deplorables I know are Flag this and Flag that.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 14, 2020 11:39 PM |
America, like other countries, has its flaws. Americans, unlike many other people, have the capacity to look inward and criticize themselves. The media makes fun of Americans constantly (both deservingly and undeservingly). The media in other countries don't do that. And I've heard Europeans criticize America for being racist constantly yet very few of them have the ability to admit to the prevalent racism in their own countries.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 14, 2020 11:41 PM |
That’s an interesting thought, R33. I wish you’d expand on media in other countries not provoking self-criticism in patriotism and such.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 14, 2020 11:49 PM |
it's pure fascist propaganda to wear one's countries' flag on apparel....
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 15, 2020 12:05 AM |
R34, I just know a lot of countries media, whether it be through the news or through their own entertainment, refuses to question their respective countries.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 15, 2020 12:10 AM |
Damn ! R26 could fuck me for days ! White trash ,hard natural body, prison tats , farmers tan,yum !
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 15, 2020 12:22 AM |
I once came out of a dressing room in Athens , Ga . I was trying on a flag Tee . The girl that worked there said" Oh , You look like an older Republican." Off came the shirt .
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 15, 2020 12:22 AM |
It's only problematic in that it's deplorable.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 15, 2020 12:24 AM |
Im 59 and was raised to believe wearing flag themed anything was disrespectful. I have zero regard for our fucked up country right now,but I still feel that way . The teachings of childhood are powerful.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 15, 2020 12:29 AM |
R40, I was gonna ask, when did wearing clothing with the American flag become so trendy? It's so fucking tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 15, 2020 12:34 AM |
Where can we see more of White Devil at R26? What's that book in the pic (bottom right) - u reckon he's a closet book boy or sum thang?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 15, 2020 7:01 PM |
R26 where do you keep White Devil?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 15, 2020 8:28 PM |
Room 222 had an episode about this back in the 60s. One of the students was wearing a flag on his jeans, IIRC, and an immigrant adult took issue with the lack of respect for the flag. I avoid Stars-and-Stripes designs personally, but I'm 59.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 15, 2020 8:44 PM |
My caftan is pure silk and all made out of the flag! My earrings are little statues of liberty’s.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | June 15, 2020 8:50 PM |
No R45. You need to respell that.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | June 15, 2020 8:51 PM |
OP is the biggest deplorable to ever deplore!
by Anonymous | reply 47 | June 15, 2020 8:52 PM |
You can wear anything so long as you look good in it.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | June 15, 2020 8:57 PM |
I'd say no. I do pause when I see American flag gear, but it's so prevalent that I can't assume that everyone sporting it is some deranged deplorable. Though a lot are.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | June 15, 2020 8:59 PM |
OP's shorts appear to have a faded print of the ... Constitution on them. Also a crest (right side in the pic) "SA" - what's all that about if not irredeemably deplorable?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | June 15, 2020 9:01 PM |
“SA” for South Africa?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 15, 2020 9:05 PM |
I'd rather have an American Flag than a Ralph Lauren logo. Why should I give him free advertising after paying big bucks for a jacket?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 15, 2020 9:15 PM |
It makes great toilet paper for Republicans! They use it to wipe their ass after they shit on the constitution.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 15, 2020 9:29 PM |
R53 Yes, the nation with the most immigrants than any other country in the world should have their flag be used as toilet paper. Idiot.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 15, 2020 9:37 PM |
It's tacky and I assume the wearer is a deplorable. The ones I know personally are all FLAG! FLAG! FLAG!!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 15, 2020 10:04 PM |
"When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross." (Author in dispute: either H.L. Mencken or Sinclair Lewis.)
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 15, 2020 11:48 PM |
Results are in and its 50/50.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 15, 2020 11:57 PM |
R57, that sounds more like Mencken.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 15, 2020 11:59 PM |
I remember a family reunion when Uncle Fred wore shorts with the flag's design. He farted loudly all day. I was horrified. So much for the patriotism we learned in school in the 1960s.
