If he had a stroke and had to transfer power (which he wouldn't do involuntarily), Pence would become a very short-serving president. Not to jest, as the same thing could happen to Biden at his age. No one things about veeps until something happens to a president.

Signs of a stroke:
Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body.
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech.
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or lack of coordination.

Remember his Saturday visit to Walter Reed last fall? For an "unscheduled" checkup? Everyone said heart attack at the time, but I think it was stroke. His eyes have been droopy, his skin blotchy and he has been more off than ever since that day. Of course, the administration lies to us as he thinks he's a dictator, but I think this further proof. He is stroked out and deteriorating.

The small steps on the ramp aren't necessarily surprising given that he's very overweight, he has lifts in shoes & he probably has bad knees. But the water glass thing - that's just fucking weird -he's like an alien imitating what humans are supposed to do. His makeup always looks jacked, but (once again), he looked like he applied it himself with a butter knife - in the car on the way to the speech. His speech - well, when he's not talking about himself or LAW & ORDER, he always sounds like the village idiot, so I guess that's not so surprising. But even by Dump standards, he looks fucked up.
I'm not sure if the people who are handling him are really that incompetent or they WANT him to go out in public & look like senile grandpa. Whatever the case, he doesn't look long for this world (let's hope!)

And, the K-Hive is on fire about how long it is taking Biden to anoint Kamela and how his surrogates are soooo obnoxiously playing games with this Veepstakes.
Both camps are low-key annoying in general, but it is curious to see both of them so lit up at the same time when everyone else is discussing how frail and pathetic Dump looks.

Frontotemporal dementia. A lot of people have suggested this. It would explain a bunch of things: the way he leans forward, his inability to pronounce words occasionally, balance problems, and so on. Plus of course the way he makes things up when he can't remember them, etc.
Here's just one article about this.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | June 14, 2020 2:01 AM |
When I saw him years ago at a Tahoe golf tournament he had on a body girdle - that he could barely move in. He couldn't even really swing a golf club. Maybe he is wearing it again? And yes - could see it under his golf clothes. He was just a mogul then but the tournament had lots of well known retired athletes playing. His assistant a woman named Carolyn - she ran his NJ golf course, was on the Apprentice - anyway she played with him and beat him. He fired her on his plane back to NY.

More about frontotemporal dementia. Doesn't this sound like Trump?
"Frontotemporal dementia attacks people in their fifth or sixth decade, just as retirement comes within reach. Doctors believe the disease affects 60,000 people in the United States alone. Neurons in the front and side of the brain wilt, and along with them, images of peacefully growing old fade. Judgment and complex planning yields to chaotic disorganization. Inhibitions give way to impulsivity and hypersexuality, so that longtime faithful partners look to affairs and excessive pornography. Empathy turns to apathy. Obsessions and compulsions erupt. Language can become laborious; the meaning of words and objects can be lost, and fluent speech can dissolve into fragments of sentences with nonsensical grammar. Jarringly, memory remains largely untouched. Since brain areas that dictate personality are often the first to suffer, most people end up on a therapist’s couch long before finding their way to a neurologist."
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 14, 2020 2:08 AM |
I have frontotemporal dementia. You have it nailed, R81 and R84. I'll add I have hard time thinking of the right word and spelling it, remembering people's names, remembering things that just happened seconds ago. My disposition can change in a split-second. My emotions are outsized. I am completely uninhibited in social situations. I even have trouble typing. It's progressive, with no drugs or treatment to stop it. I have already made arrangements for the time when I can't manage my life. My doctor says ten years or so.

by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 14, 2020 2:15 AM |
I scrolled through the full NBC News feed of the event, which was more than 2 hours long. Trump had to remain standing for most of those two hours (a quiet fuck-you from the Academy for making everyone return?) and I was surprised that he was able to do it without keeling over. They must have had him pumped up on something to keep his stamina. He was practically catatonic reading his speech - and barely glanced away from the teleprompter to look at the cadets. But being on his feet for two hours may also help explain part of his poor motor coordination going down the ramp afterward. He seemed to be walking more or less normally (for him) at the beginning of the event.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 14, 2020 2:16 AM |

Please, please, PLEASE let him get defeated in a landslide, get indicted and convicted of something, go to prison, lose his money, and be so exposed for what he is that only the dumbest don't turn on him. I also want him to have chronic diarrhea, which if you believe what some people say is a malady he already has.

Actually now that I think about it I don't want him to die while in office. That would mean a big state funeral and Pelosi & Schumer would probably have to go even though I'm sure they wouldn't want to. I'd rather him lose the election, live in a misery of lawsuits for a few years and then drop dead after having been pretty much forgotten. Then people the Democrats in Congress could probably say "fuck it I ain't going".

No, R92 & R94. Go back and read what R85 wrote if you need proof that we shouldn't risk the unpredictability. The sooner he is away from power the better. Having a state funeral is a small price to pay for being rid of what was already a monster.
Given all the practice we've had with "thoughts and prayers", you'd think we'd be better at it by now.

To answer my own question about standing for two hours, the CiC usually shakes hands with each new lieutenant. But this year a salute was substituted. Regardless, he had to stand for about a 1000 graduates. I assume he knew from previous years, but he may have forgotten. I wonder if he still would've gone through with it if it was crystal clear this is required.

Every few months twitter does this. Trump is demented! He’s got frontal lobe dementia! He’s got Parkinson’s! He’s had a stroke! He’s obviously deteriorated! My mother had dementia was just like him! My dad had a stroke and acted just like him! My aunt had Parkinson’s and he’s just like she was!
And Trump stays the same.
If he was demented in 2017, he’d be speechless by now. If he’d had all the strokes people claim he’s had, he’d be bedridden. If he had Parkinson’s for as long as people say, he’d have noticeable hand tremors by now.
He’s mentally ill. He’s a malignant narcissist, he’s paranoid, he has oppositional defiant disorder. He’s got ADHD. This man operates on pure emotion. He doesn’t use problem solving techniques, he can’t think ahead for 2 days, he can’t make a statement & not contradict himself in the next sentence. He can’t stand still. He can’t stand not being the center of attention. He wants to be in front of a microphone schmoozing his fans, insulting his enemies, calling for chaos & violence.
They’re making him stand still. He won’t stand still. He doesn’t obey other people. He does what he wants. Everybody else has to stand still, but not Trump. Trump has to move in some bizarre way & get attention. He’s afraid of stairs - we’ve seen that before. He doesn’t like people to see him drink. I think he’s afraid he’ll dribble and that’s why he makes a big production about it.
Americans have the attention span of gnats. They forget that they insisted 6 months ago that Trump had a stroke. But since then, he’s the same. He’s always walked like a hulking zombie. Even when he was young he had terrible posture. Trump’s been babbling in sentence fragments for years, yet people swear he’s deteriorated, he’s got dementia, he’s had a stroke because of the way he speaks.
He’s the same, just older. He moves more slowly. But he’s the same slovenly, nasty, uncreative, self centered, defiant asshole he’s always been. He’s probably more physically tired at times, but I think it’s emotional, not physical. He’s not in charge of the narrative. “Bunker Boy” hit a nerve. Demonstrations continue. Covid is attacking red states. Behind the scenes he’s just as evil as ever, punishing African Americans, native Americans, environmentalists, blue state residents, lgbt, poor people, students, worker safety....everything. He’s lining his pockets. He’s pleasing Putin. As far as he’s concerned, he’s still a handsome, brilliant, charismatic, special, superhuman. But the media has won the narrative the last few weeks & it is freaking him out.
I agree with the guy who worked on his show who said “I don’t buy the dementia thing & I think those who claim it may be giving him an alibi he’ll use for his behavior.” A Vinny-the-Chin alibi.

by Anonymous | reply 112 | June 14, 2020 4:25 AM |
All evidence being brought up seems pretty borderline to me. His strange gait, forward-leaning posture and fear of stairs are explained by his lifts. The above picture of his foot almost coming out of his shoe because of the lifts is crazy. His hand weakness could be due to an injury. He was apparently golfing relatively recently. He’s had slurred speech periodically since being elected. I’m waiting for something more dramatic.

@realDonaldTrump The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery. The last thing I was going to do is “fall” for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!

The ramp was very steep and slippery? Get the fuck out. I suppose when you're wearing lifts in your shoes, which naturally cause you to lean forward even on flat ground, then maneuvering a ramp with a slightly decline must make Trump feel like he was going to topple over.

West Point certainly let their Commander-In-Chief know exactly how they felt about his Commencement demands. Two hours standing, precarious ramp. Quite the message for their bunker boy.
If he had delighted the world by falling, it wouldn't have been fake news, it would manifestly have been true news. Except for the one exception in his brain of denial.
The ludicrous top-heavy shoe-lifted little-feet picture @ R162 makes Trump look like a fat man trying to get used to artificial legs. Given his ramp issues, these wouldn't be so different to his quasi-normal legs.

One side is weak, holding a glass with two hands could mean one side is weak, or it could mean his hands are shaking.
I know someone with RA that had both symptoms. They were weak in one leg first (the joint was failing), and when they first came down with it, they had out of control inflammation caused by stress. They had to drink out of a sippy cup until the meds kicked in. It can seem like a stroke because it can come on very suddenly and be very drastic. Obesity can be a contributing factor. It also makes you more susceptible to diseases like Coronavirus. Basically your immune system is shot.
The meds for this are very toxic and can damage the liver. If he’s got that, combined with his Adderall addiction, his organs aren’t going to able to handle all that toxicity at his age.

My father died of dementia. It's not dementia. Dementia patients have an average lifespan of 7 years and it's not a disease that progresses slowly, even with medication. If Trump had dementia then at this point he wouldn't be able to even walk up to a podium and ramble like he does. He'd forget where he is and what he was doing. R270, there are different diseases and conditions that present as dementia though. Strokes can sometimes make people forgetful, for example.
I know someone that took the exact same medication for twenty years. After twenty years, they suddenly started having hallucinations and psychosis. In the fine print on the side effects of that medication, were hallucinations and psychosis. When that happened, I read the side effects for the medication and they had almost all of them, all at once. It’s like the toxicity just built up until the person’s body just broke down over it.
Look at (some of) at the side effects for Adderall:
Hoarseness
trouble sleeping
unusual tiredness or weakness
confusion
difficulty breathing
difficulty with speaking
difficulty with swallowing
dizziness
double vision
faintness
inability to move the arms, legs, or facial muscles
inability to speak
itching, skin rash
large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
loss of bladder control
muscle cramps or stiffness
muscle spasm or jerking of the arms and legs pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
red skin lesions, often with a purple center
red, irritated eyes
seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
seizures
slow speech
sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
sudden loss of consciousness
swelling of the feet or lower legs
tightness in the chest
uncontrolled repeated movements (tics)
uncontrolled vocal outbursts
unusual tiredness or weakness
Less common side effects:
Constipation
decreased interest in sexual intercourse
false or unusual sense of well-being
inability to have or keep an erection
loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
twitching, twisting, uncontrolled repetitive movements of the tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs
I wonder if Trump had a seizure and that’s why he was rushed to the hospital.

Trump has earned and deserves every syllable of ridicule, speculation about his health, and death wishes sent out into the world, and then some, over how he appeared at that speech.
Good for 'ya, Trump. That what he gets for insisting on giving that speech, ordering those cadets back in person to hear and see him, forcing them to quarantine for 2 weeks, and then having the gigantic nerve to put in a performance that Sominex wishes could be bottled and sold by them.

I don’t understand the design of shoes pictured in this thread with lifts in them. Yes, the heels are slightly raised, but the sole of the shoe looks super flat. Wouldn’t it be a better design to raise the heel and also give the sole some thickness? Even the sole of a normal men’s dress shoe has at least a quarter of an inch in thickness, but the soles of Trump’s shoes look like they have the thickness of ballet slippers. This higher heel and flat sole also makes Trump look like he’s always tipping forward.

NYT: Trump’s Halting Walk Down Ramp Raises New Health Questions
The president also appeared to have trouble raising a glass of water to his mouth during a speech at West Point a day before he turned 74, the oldest a president has been in his first term.
June 14, 2020
President Trump faced new questions about his health on Sunday, after videos emerged of him gingerly walking down a ramp at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and having trouble bringing a glass of water to his mouth during a speech there.
Mr. Trump — who turned 74 on Sunday, the oldest a U.S. president has been in his first term — was recorded hesitantly descending the ramp one step at a time after he delivered an address to graduating cadets at the New York-based academy on Saturday. The academy’s superintendent, Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, walked alongside him. Mr. Trump sped up slightly for the final three steps, as he got to the bottom.
Another video circulated of Mr. Trump taking a sip of water from a glass tucked inside his lectern on the dais at West Point. Mr. Trump held the glass with his right hand and brought it to his mouth, but appeared to momentarily have trouble lifting his arm farther. He used his left hand to push the bottom of the glass so that it reached his lips.
Mr. Trump posted defensively on Twitter late Saturday night about the video circulating of his walk, and offered a description that did not match the visuals.
“The ramp that I descended after my West Point Commencement speech was very long & steep, had no handrail and, most importantly, was very slippery,” Mr. Trump wrote. “The last thing I was going to do is ‘fall’ for the Fake News to have fun with. Final ten feet I ran down to level ground. Momentum!”
There was no evidence that the ramp was slippery, and the skies were clear during the ceremony.
The videos again raised questions about the health of Mr. Trump, whose advisers have never fully explained his abrupt visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in November, saying at the time only that it was intended to get a jump on his annual physical.

R320. Yes, a short tie can emphasize your gut. But I'm not talking wearing your tie short. I am saying the proper length of the tie should hit mid-belt. Trump said he thinks wearing those foolish red ties extra long makes him look slimmer--and that's just not the case. He looks fat no matter how long his ties are. Plus they look ridiculous at that extra long length.

R353, because Bernie insisted on running even though he didn’t have a chance in hell, and we had to beat Trump no matter what. The large number of younger people competing were splitting the vote so much, Bernie was only getting about 25% of the vote and he was winning.
But you can’t win with 25% of the vote in the general, and Bernie could not get crossover moderate Republicans that hate Trump. He’s too far left.
Bernie was playing the Ralph Nader in this election. He was bound and determined to act as a spoiler, unable to win himself, and thereby insuring a victory for Trump. But he’s such an egomaniac, he would rather be a losing candidate that only gets 25% of one party’s vote, than unite with the Democratic Party to defeat Trump. So there was only one thing to do.
As you saw, all the younger candidates dropped out right before Super Tuesday. Not because they were broke or nobody liked them, but because the only persons all wings of the party could get behind immediately, with no further campaigning, was Biden. Everyone knows Biden, they know what they’re getting. There was no time to find out if somebody was more viable than Biden, because Bernie was racking up delegates even though he was unelectable. After ST, Bernie would have locked down too many delegates for anyone else to get the number of delegates needed to be nominated. He wouldn’t have won the majority, but he would have won *enough* to be a spoiler.
Bernie is the reason we can’t have somebody younger. Because younger people needed more time to get known, and there was no time to get known. The process had to be over by ST. Bernie would have held his delegates over the head of the eventual winner and forced them against their will to take on a platform that would make the Democratic nominee unelectable. Then Trump would win.
Biden, Obama and others must have quietly talked to the other candidates behind the scenes and got them to drop out. I give them a lot of credit. As soon as they were gone, the moderate votes were all going undivided to Biden, and you see the true numbers of moderates now.
After that night, Biden won every primary by huge numbers, in many cases he got twice the votes as Bernie. Finally Bernie saw he couldn’t win. But not before he drove a lot of good people out of the race and they lost an opportunity for months on the national stage they could have used for 2024.
Bernie and his Bros should have been mature enough to realize the percentage voting against him was much larger than the percentage voting for him, and graciously bowed out. That would have given somebody younger a chance to gain some ground. But what am I saying? That would never happen.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | June 16, 2020 2:20 AM |
I have always thought Bernie Sanders was a very selfish man. It's his way or the highway. I think Hillary Clinton would have won if Bernie hadn't poisoned her brand. If Biden loses, I am firmly planting the blame on Bernie. We could have found a more healthy candidate over the primary season if Bernie hadn't inserted himself. He isn't even a Democrat. He declares himself independent. How is he helping us?
I hope he retires soon and operates a non-profit. Then he can do everything his way.
by Anonymous | reply 356 | June 16, 2020 2:30 AM |
Bernie wanted to primary Obama in 2012. It has nothing to do with who the candidate is. Either he thinks people are just dying to vote for him above even a popular candidate like Obama, with no evidence that’s true, or he just wants to be a spoiler.
Considering he went all out in 2016 to support socialist spoiler candidates running against Democrats in local state races (and not a single one of them won), I think he just wants to stop Democrats from winning. Which must mean he wants Republicans to win. He’s got Russian ties that go back many years.

R369, I actually like the way they’re targeting audiences. If the Democrats didn’t have allies willing to go low, that would be an issue, but with the Lincoln Project doing the dirty work, Biden can stay above the fray and act “presidential”. This is very effective when compared to the baby-in-chief, who is now being attacked on multiple fronts. I bet this is absolutely the strategy.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | June 17, 2020 4:26 PM |
The Lincoln Project’s new ad—which takes information straight from Bolton’s book—is way better than their ad about his health problems.
When people talk about how much they hate Bolton, how they’re so mad he didn’t testify, and so mad that he’s coming out with this book, I just shake my head. His testimony would not have convinced the necessary number of GOP Senators to convict Trump. No fucking way. The book coming out NOW, with more information about DJT’s corruption and incompetence, will be more effective than any testimony he could’ve given during impeachment. People might have forgotten about it by now.
But his book (plus Trump’s niece’s, plus COVID-19 and the economy and the “race riots”) will be fresh in every voter’s mind on Nov 3.
