Sorry,, I’m too lazy right now to make Google my friend.
Did the term “Karen” come from Megan Mullally’s character in Will & Grace?

OP, no. It came from Reddit, I believe. And then they attached Karen to the photo of that Kate Gosselin woman.
The kids who use Karen were probably too young to remember the original run of Will & Grace.

Didn’t it come from the name of the lady that was stopped by the cops in New Jersey? Wasn’t her name Karen?

No, it's because it's a typical name for middle-aged white women

Ah, thanks, Rr4!
It would make sense if it was actually named after Karen Walker, the embodiment of white privilege.

I thought "Karen" came from frau extraordinaire and Second Lady of the United States and sanctimonious and self-righteous Christian do-gooder, Karen "Mother" Pence.

R5 yes, but the real Karen’s have neither the wealth nor the style of Karen Walker—just the shared sense of entitlement.

Given that "Karen" is not about white privilege, it makes absolutely no sense.
As with DL's own version, frau, Karen transcends race, religion, socio-economic strata, and sexual orientation.
And before you ask, frau =|= karen.

Wrong wrong wrong.
It came from the old joke of “Karen from finance” that’s been around for a while. Karen being a basic, fussy, judgmental frau.

How many middle aged white women are even named Karen? I don't know any.

R8, since when is “Karen” not about white privilege. Of course it is. Pay attention.

R10. I know four middle-aged white women named Karen. Worked with three of them, another is a neighbor.

Karen was just a random name for a milquetoast white woman.
Just like all the nicknames of the white women who have called police, like BBQ Becky, Permit Patty, etc.

I don't know a single GenX "Karen" though, it's really a Boomer name, and they're hardly middle-aged anymore. It was a hugely popular name for babies in the 1950s.

I also thought Karen seemed like a Boomer name. I’m Gen X and it seemed outdated by the time I was a kid.

Since it's inception?
Karen and "asking to speak to the manager" has little to do with white privilege. The stories of non-white Karens are legion.
Pay attention or at least expand your world experience to cover something outside your own echo chamber.

According to r14's link, most Karens were born circa 1950-1966

R11 - It seems like it's more about "entitled mommy" who is used to bossing her crotch fruit around so she has forgotten that the rest of the world's population doesn't have to answer to her.

I know baby boomer Karens too, older women, not middle aged. I'm also GenX. Girls names were all Jennifer, Heather, Lisa, etc.

R16, your argument is shit.
And “since it’s inception” said it all about you right from the get go. Educate yourself.
