Is that too much to ask for? That is all.

God, I miss brunch.

by Anonymousreply 1May 30, 2020 10:47 PM

You can also ask for death.

by Anonymousreply 2May 30, 2020 10:47 PM

The DeBlasios

by Anonymousreply 3May 30, 2020 10:57 PM

Fuck you, OP.

I'm trying to diet here!

by Anonymousreply 4May 30, 2020 10:58 PM

"Cake or death?"

Cake, please!

by Anonymousreply 5May 30, 2020 10:59 PM

OP, I want you to have your cake AND EAT IT TOO.

If you can't bake one have it delivered.

by Anonymousreply 6May 30, 2020 11:01 PM

OP, you type Frosted.

by Anonymousreply 7May 30, 2020 11:02 PM

Cak to comfort us after disaster that was May.

by Anonymousreply 8May 30, 2020 11:03 PM

Amen, R8, April showers brought May total and complete cuntage.

by Anonymousreply 9May 30, 2020 11:05 PM

I'll have that with ice cream, please.

I really prefer pie. Am I weird?

by Anonymousreply 11May 30, 2020 11:07 PM

Thanks, OP!!!

I fell off my diet four days ago and I'm trying to get back on the bandwagon tomorrow!

by Anonymousreply 12May 30, 2020 11:08 PM

I had a slice of Sander's Bumpy cake for dessert tonight. They're as good as ever.

You have to order two at a time these days - they ship 'em in dry ice with Fedex two-day service for free.

R8, thanks for the old timerDL translation.

by Anonymousreply 14May 30, 2020 11:43 PM

LOVE cake, but keep it to a minimum. Just had 1 slice of chocolate cake though. That's it until July 4th.

by Anonymousreply 15May 30, 2020 11:50 PM

You have to wait more than a month in-between desserts? And you calendar it?

Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 16May 30, 2020 11:53 PM

Yes R16, I used to be overweight and prediabetic. 5 years ago, I lost all the weight and reversed the preD. Now that I am slim and healthy again, I am very strict about sugar/calories.

by Anonymousreply 17May 30, 2020 11:58 PM

Yeah, my mother went through that, r17. You don't have to be that careful about it. You can have more than one dessert a month.

by Anonymousreply 18May 31, 2020 12:01 AM

Thanks R18, but this method works for me🙂

by Anonymousreply 19May 31, 2020 12:02 AM

I want jelly roll. Does that count as cake? It's hard to find nowadays. I want the kind with a jelly-coconut icing along with the jelly in the roll. I've considered trying to make it for myself, but it sounds hard. I've never baked a cake or cake-like food that seemed as though it could be rolled up without cracking.

Has anyone made their own jelly (aka Swiss) roll?

by Anonymousreply 20May 31, 2020 12:02 AM

Good for you r17. Stay strong against all the peer pressure to fall back into bad habits.

by Anonymousreply 21May 31, 2020 12:05 AM

I've made a swiss roll but it was chocolate with cream filling.

I wouldn't begin baking by taking on a filled cake roll. It's difficult to master.

by Anonymousreply 22May 31, 2020 12:07 AM

I really want a piece of pink champagne cake from the Madonna Inn (in San Luis Obispo). The Inn pre-existed Madge... no relation

Thanks, R22. I do bake sometimes, including cakes. I only meant to say that I've never baked a cake that seemed like it could be rolled without breaking. In the meantime, I wish you could still get jelly rolls at US supermarkets. They used to be ubiquitous.

I suppose I could make a layer cake with jelly instead of frosting, adding coconut to the jelly for the top of the cake.

by Anonymousreply 24May 31, 2020 12:14 AM

That's right R24, improvise! And if it's not up to snuff you can always start over tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 25May 31, 2020 12:16 AM

Schichttorte.

by Anonymousreply 26May 31, 2020 12:19 AM

From the East, never heard of Sander's Bumpy Cake...x'plain Lucy.

I haven’t had a jelly roll in decades. My mother used to buy them at the grocery store in NY where I grew up. And, yes, with the jelly and coconut “frosting” — for lack of a better term.

My mother was an excellent baker. I don’t recall her ever making a jelly roll, but she did what you suggested: filled the layers with jelly.

by Anonymousreply 28May 31, 2020 12:34 AM

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THAT CAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE.

SLAM!

by Anonymousreply 29May 31, 2020 12:34 AM

R23, no mention of the Madonna Inn is complete without a photo of their bathrooms.

I can't bake it, I just wanna eat it. But thanks anyhow.

by Anonymousreply 32May 31, 2020 12:50 AM

I'm with you, r11.

I really dont like cake.

by Anonymousreply 33May 31, 2020 12:51 AM

R20, If you have a Japanese grocery or bakery near you, the roll cakes are popular. I've not seen a jelly roll, though. My favorite would be the green matcha cake with green filling. Strawberry is the other popular flavor.

Cak > pie

by Anonymousreply 35May 31, 2020 12:53 AM

Spread icing nice and thick between the layers. Ooh let it drip down the sides.

by Anonymousreply 36May 31, 2020 12:55 AM

For a hot minute, I thought R26 was Lizsha.

by Anonymousreply 39May 31, 2020 1:11 AM

You are a tart, R39.

by Anonymousreply 40May 31, 2020 1:11 AM

I bought a King Arthur's Flour cookbook last winter. It has a recipe for Cherry Almond Crumbcake. It sounds FABULOUS. It has lots of butter and Almond Paste. I've been procrastinating about making it. I really do want to have my cake and eat it too.

by Anonymousreply 41May 31, 2020 1:12 AM

I find food threads on DL amusing because people get so rapturous it and so rabidly defensive about their own particular likes and dislikes. I don't cook in the least, and have no interest in doing so, but these threads are fun to watch. Keep on posting, fatties.

My favorite cake is Italian Rum Cake, frosted with whipped cream, layered with custard, strawberries, peaches and soaked in rum. When I was growing up you could get them in any Italian bakery in the Boston area. No more. Wish I had a piece right now.

by Anonymousreply 44May 31, 2020 1:21 AM

MotherFUCKERS!!!!

I am from northeast and just ordered a Sanders Caramel Bumpy Cake and a Sanders fucking Chocolate Bumpy Cake!

AND!!! Some block of chocolate with peanut butter. 2 actually. SO I could get free shipping

Mother FUCKER! Thanks, fucking Sanders shill from Minnesota or wherever!

by Anonymousreply 45May 31, 2020 1:26 AM

I want cake too. I love cake.

by Anonymousreply 46May 31, 2020 1:28 AM

Not even in the North End or East Boston, R44?

That's pretty much every kind of wrong.

Would it be shallow of us to riot in the streets for rum cream cakes?

Probably. Fine then, just be like that.

by Anonymousreply 47May 31, 2020 1:43 AM

That chocolate fudge Bumpy cake looks wonderful. I sure as hell am not going to order it, but I would love to have a piece right now.

by Anonymousreply 48May 31, 2020 2:03 AM

I have never seen a Bumpy cake before. For sure I would eat one but those ridges don't look like bumps to me. Maybe speed bumps really close together. I'd call if the Too Many Speed Bumps Cake.

by Anonymousreply 49May 31, 2020 4:57 AM

I keep trying to order my favorite (Crispies) from Sanders but they are always out of it, the fat whores!

by Anonymousreply 50May 31, 2020 5:04 AM

I'd love a hefty slice of piecaken right about now.
