I have a scheduled appointment for a cleaning next week. i’m not sure if I should keep the appointment or not. Is it safe to go get your haircut? I am in LA and I’m confused as to what is safe now or not. Thanks.
Is it safe to go to the dentist yet?

I wouldn't. I'm surprised dentists would, either.

I would love to get a haircut. Of course I won't. Why are you questioning if it's safe? The hair cutter has his hands on your head. The chair and all the equipment would need to be sanitized every time, etc. Does this sound safe to you? With no social distancing available whatsoever? Come on.

Get yourself an Egyptian plover. Protip-- it has to be a plover. A regular Egyptian won't work.

Call your dentist and find out what they're doing to protect their patients and get details on the safety measures they've got in place.
My sister went to the dentist last week, and she said she was comfortable. Her office had very stringent controls in place.

I’m due for the dentist in June but I’m skipping it and going in the Fall, maybe. If you don’t have trouble and previously go for two or more cleanings a year, you should be able to skip one without getting skanky.

How old are you, R6?

I went to my dentist one week ago, needed a new crown. I felt uncomfortable at first, but everybody was as careful as can be. In hindsight I'd say it's safer to go to the dentist than getting groceries at a Safeway.
My visit at the dentist was seven days ago. I'll check back with you in one week again.

I got a haircut last week and got my teeth cleaned this week. I felt comfortable with it but I’m not high risk.

For the past 2 months, my dentist has been sending me email reminders that I am due for a checkup. I haven't called or scheduled one, but I guess he's been working this whole time.
L.A. County just got approval today from the State to open barbershops, hair salons, manicurists, etc. Some could open as soon as tomorrow.

Oh well, don't worry about it, R9. You'll "probably" be fine.

Barber shops and hair salons just opened in San Diego. I couldn't stand it any longer; it had been 12 weeks since my last haircut. Everything was cleaned, sanitized, etc. We both wore masks. I was leery, but I did it.

Yes. Love your life.. don’t let the state win.

Mine has this down. Wait in car until the come get you. Mask required. Once they escort you in, doors are locked and your temp taken and you are asked to put on hand sanitizer. Once in the "chair" room you are asked to wash hands while asst. times it and then you have to gargle with something, also timed. They all have the plastic face shields on.

Just wear a condom and you should be fine, dear.

It's iffy. To be on the safe side, choose a dentist who has been spayed or neutered.

I would cancel a cleaning/check up. My dentist in NY is still only doing emergency visits. No hair salons or barber shops open either. I buzzed my hair, will keep it this way until the fall.

Just got this email yesterday from my dentist:
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, CA’s “Safer-at-Home” order has begun to ease. We have been working diligently to create new protocols to enhance everyone’s safety & have begun retrofitting the office as well. The greatest challenge, however has been procuring authentic & reliable PPE’s.
Our goal is to begin to re-open June 1st. Although we would like to open at full capacity, we will need to start slow. We plan to 1st treat those patients who had unfortunate dental problems during the past 3 months & need urgent care. We will also begin seeing hygiene (cleaning) patients but please be aware that we will need to make up for the lost time which has created a significant back-up in appointment times. If you had a cleaning appt that was cancelled, we will call you to reschedule as soon as we can.
We hope the worst is behind us & eventually we all will return to normal (new normal) soon, but in the mean time, stay safe, stay vigilant & stay healthy.

Two weeks since my dentist appointment, and I'm fine. Going back on Wednesday.

I went to the dentist last Friday for a cleaning. It was fine, everyone took all the necessary precautions. The only difference is they did everything in one room - cleaning and exam. Usually they do it in separate rooms/chairs. Everyone wore face shields.
Great visit, but I love my dentist and his team.

What do you guys think about whether it is safe to have a house cleaner? My house cleaner comes every two weeks, but I put her on hiatus in January. I’ve been paying her anyway because she is undocumented and she, and her mother before her, have worked for me for 20 years. Her mom used to call me randomly to tell me that she was praying for me, and that I was like a son to her. So, I have some affection for them. Her mom and her daughter are citizens, so I don’t know why she isn’t, but no matter, that’s not relative to the question.
I didn’t clean at all for almost 4 months, but I’ve been on a cleaning bing lately and I’m really tired of the work now, so I’d like to have her comeback, soon, if it’s safe. I’m retired, so I don’t have a job to go to. She’s asked me twice if she can start working here again, and I think I’ll have her come back.
Is it safe? I have questions.
TIA!

I went recently and I don't think there are any issues. I live in VA.

Went for a regular cleaning last week in Central PA and I think they only started seeing patients again (for non-emergency services) that week. It was a different experience - temperature and blood-oxygen level taken at the office door, all the staff in full PPE. No spitting, no electric tools (for fear of misting saliva). The cleaning was all hand-scraping. Which is concerning since dental hygienists have high levels of repetitive stress injuries so hand scraping all your patients is going to make that much worse if this goes on for long.

[quote] I’ve been paying her anyway because she is undocumented
Where you at?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 8, 2020 3:52 AM |
I’m not telling, ICE @ R25!
I ever knew she was undocumented until sometime between 2017 and 2019, when I just asked her. It’s funny that her mom and daughter are documented, but she is not.
But, do you think it’s COVID-safe?

By the way, one-tenth of the jobs in the recent job recovery report was dental offices. Not so rosy when you dissect it.

Ito.d my cleaning woman that we’d have to delay another two weeks. Then we ll reassess.

My dentist tacked on a $10 charge for PPE and cleaning. Some people really know how to profit from others' misery.

R29, I just read about some businesses implementing a surcharge for their 'services' in one way or another.
Obviously restaurants were part of this, in addition to hair salons and...the dentist office.
Allegedly, they should be temporary, but we'll see since businesses love gauging customers of their money...
