Not a top in sight.

It ran three months longer than it deserved to.

I think Meg Ryan was on it too.

I recall watching this show as a teen, my late mother took one look at Nathan Lane & said "He's gaaaaaay..."

He was less gay than Monroe or Danny Pintauro or Alex on ODAAT

My actress friend and her actor husband rarely speak I’ll of anyone.
However, Mickey Rooney was apparently the biggest, most miserable SOB in Hollywood.
Ever.

Dana Carvey's hair... Looks like those cuts they give wisecracking sitcom tots that you never see in real life.

Why did Ava Gardner marry Mickey Rooney?

R10. Good question.

I don't remember it at all, but I wouldn't ever watch anything with Mickey Rooney in it. What an ass.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 24, 2020 4:15 AM |
It ran in the summer for just a few weeks. I remember it because it was filmed at Drew University in NJ which I grew up right near by. I watched it to see the familiar sights of the school on TV.

Mickey would have been fresh from his Sugar Babies career resurgence.

R10, He took Ava's virginity. In her autobiography, she has only kind things to say about him.
People forget what a huge star he once was.

Did he do his Mr. Yunioshi character?

I liked his hair cut

Remember that Mickey Rooney was an A-list star for the first 40 years of his life, and at least a B-lister for the remainder, which was many many years. He lived his entire life near the center of the entertainment industry.
It's actually amazing that he was as normal as he was.

Here is Dana Carvey talking about the show - first while he is actually starring in it, and then years later.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 25, 2020 10:27 PM |
He was an A-lister for less than 40 years---more like 20 years. He was nobody from the 50s onward------yes , the occasional "special guest" shot on tv and dreadful small roles like "Breakfast at Tiffany's", a failed series here and there, but really C-list at best. He made movies that were never released during this long failed period. Sugar Babies gave him a short boomlet and then it was all over. He was a total asshole in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 25, 2020 11:36 PM |
R23, my point is, it's all relative. He lived and worked in Hollywood from the time he was a baby until the time he died. Being an asshole is expected of someone from that environment.
Expecting someone who grew up in Hollywood not to be a despicable human being is like expecting a Russian to be honest, or a gay male not to be a little bitch. It rarely happens.

He always said he was in love with Judy Garland. That is how you know he's straight, because Judy didn't marry him.

I don't understand OP's post or the point of this thread. There is no question, no asking if we watched it, no asking what we thought of it, just a statement that this sitcom existed.
Anyone can do that:
The Building
an American sitcom television series which aired on CBS from August 20 to September 17, 1993. The series ran for five episodes. It starred Bonnie Hunt.

R27, why does there have to be a question? Can't we just reminisce about the show and its stars?
If you must have a question, here is one: Which poster in this thread probably has the most annoying personality?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 26, 2020 12:28 AM |
Mickey Rooney had a bleak run towards the end. In 1984, he publicly blasted the makers of the first Silent Night Deadly Night as a cheap, mean-spirited attempt to exploit the holiday season.
He ended up starring in part five.

I thought this thread was going to be about Lauren Bacall in Woman of the Year.
"I'm one of the girls who sings like the boys...."

Mickey let Lana use Ava’s douche. What a fucking asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 26, 2020 12:46 AM |
Mickey was Oscar-nominated for "The Black Stallion" (1979), on Broadway in "Sugar Babies", and won an Emmy for the excellent TV movie "Bill" (1981). There is no need to hate him. GO MICKEY!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 26, 2020 12:54 AM |
A lot of people don't know that in the late 1930s, Mickey was the largest box office star in the world. Clark Gable "The King of Hollywood," was second.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | June 26, 2020 12:56 AM |
Even if he was box office gold in the 30s (mostly in awful B movies), it's irrelevant when he was such a douche for the last 6 or 7 decades of his life.

"Why did Ava Gardner marry Mickey Rooney?"
She was a nobody. Marrying him made her a somebody. But oh, what a price.

I was always disturbed by the raspberry on his lip in Pete’s Dragon. Did he fall down or catch an elbow hamming it up? Herpes? Fuck him!

Little guy, huge dick. Some women -- and men -- love that.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 26, 2020 1:29 AM |
R34, you seem to be arguing that douchebags shouldn't be popular. If that were true, Hollywood, Broadway, and the music business would all go out of business in a day.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 26, 2020 1:31 AM |
